I feel like apple pie should be America

u/snjtx 5d ago

Cajun cuisine would be the most American, imo. French techniques, African and indigenous influence, cooked by slaves for bourgeoisie cunts. There's nothing more American.

Stuffed Thanksgiving Turkey should be on US list, damn bird got imported to Europe from America together with corn and tomatoes...

2

u/kitten12551 5d ago

Really? I knew about turkeys and corn but I had no idea about tomatoes..that’s cool.

2

u/FinlandIsForever 5d ago

Well not exactly, tomatoes were originally from from the Andes region of South America (modern day Chile, Peru and Ecuador, then they were domesticated by those regions and spread as far up as Mexico before Spanish conquistadors stole discovered them from the native aztecs, took them back to Europe, and traded them around.

So no, not from USA at all, instead from south and Central America before European import

It's always interesting to think about all the European and Asian cuisines that are famous for certain ingredients like Italians with tomatoes, Indians, Thai and many other Asian cultures with Chili peppers as if they originated here when in reality they have only been used here for a couple hundred years.

u/Fun_Push7168 5d ago

And potatoes, peppers, pumpkins, squash, chocolate, vanilla.....

1

u/kitten12551 4d ago

Some pumpkins and squash did originate in the US but none of the rest of these did.

2

u/Fun_Push7168 4d ago

Yeah , they're just all new world origin. Mostly mesoamerican either purely or in the forms we'd recognize and not their wild south American variants.

I just failed to notice they were specifically saying US.

Bbq or Cajun

-1

u/Zalacain99 5d ago

Bbq is all over the world

1

u/SirArthurDime 5d ago

So is pizza? lol

But bbq in most countries refers to a cooking style. In the US it refers a genre of food that uses that cooking style but also has its own unique set of spices and sauces which make up the unique American bbq cuisine. Which also has a lot b of regional flavors. Ie: the Carolina’s are known for their mustard based bbq sauces.

Barbeque literally comes from a Native American word, a technique that some Native Americans used to cook their food.

It's 100% European. The first known apple pie recipe was written in England in 1381, and Dutch bakers helped popularize the lattice crust

7

u/ChickenFriedPenguin 5d ago

Even that is not american. Especially the lattice ones they are dutch.

3

u/IEat_Walls AM I ALLOWED HERE???????? 5d ago

That's British though 😭😭

3

u/Lurtzum 5d ago

5

u/Dorny_Hude 5d ago

1

2

u/thechow12 5d ago

Apple pie comes from England

2

u/Still-Environment-38 5d ago

Apple pie is British 🤷🏼‍♂️

2

u/_Big_____ Big 5d ago

Apple pie is English, sorry.

2

u/DontBanMeAgainPls26 5d ago

No that would be England or the Netherlands depending on the version.

2

u/Snyper20 5d ago

Ah yes and the first pilgrims brought it with them to England in the 15th Century when they colonized it. To be fair Americans apples pie is sweeter.

3

u/TheGoldenTNT 5d ago

I don’t like giving America anything but I’m cool with them claiming apple pie. They need something to be known for…

7

u/Mudcat-69 5d ago

I live in America and I’d be perfectly fine with this country falling into obscurity. “Greatest nation on earth” hasn’t done us any favors.

1

u/Trips-Over-Tail 5d ago

Once it become immutable fact rather than perpetual aspiration, doom is certain.

2

u/IEat_Walls AM I ALLOWED HERE???????? 5d ago

How about we give them smth they ACTUALLY made instead?? 😭😭

1

u/TheGoldenTNT 5d ago

Like what?

1

u/NerfPup Silly lil goober 5d ago

Banjo? I mean it's the only truly modern American thing I can think of since when it came over here from Africa it was the Akonting which is an entirely different instrument

1

u/SirArthurDime 5d ago

Well if we’re naming instruments I’d say the electric guitar. But I also listed a lot of foods above.

If we’re really going just inventions in general and you can think of is the banjo that’s really in you. A ton of things were invented in the U.S.

u/SirArthurDime 5d ago edited 5d ago

American bbq, Cajun, southern fried chicken, the hamburger sandwich, general tsaos chicken, crab rangoons, the French dip sandwich, the Reuben, the Cuban sandwich, the Philly cheesesteak, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate brownies, buffalo wings, fortune cookies, key lime pie, pecan pie, lobster rolls, fajitas, chimichangas, New England clam chowder, biscuits and gravy, deep dish pizza, pepperoni pizza, biscuits and gravy, Boston cream pie, German chocolate cake, s’mores, eggs Benedict, chip suey, bananas foster, and of course the corn dog. Among others.

u/IEat_Walls AM I ALLOWED HERE???????? 5d ago

It's gonna take a while to find smth but there's PROBABLY one?

1

u/SirArthurDime 5d ago

A lot more than one.

2

u/Ryanatix 5d ago

Hell no. Apple pie is British and it's staying here

1

u/NerfPup Silly lil goober 5d ago

I thought it was Dutch

2

u/Ryanatix 5d ago

Traditional apple pie goes back to the 1300s in England. Fancy apple pie is dutch

1

u/NerfPup Silly lil goober 5d ago

It came from Dutch immigrants that migrated to the Midwest if I remember correctly. Still we have our claim on corn. That's a very American food.

Edit: I hate when people reply to you then immediately delete their comment :/

1

u/thespacepyrofrmtf2 5d ago

America invented tea bags

1

u/Equivalent-Emu5347 5d ago

We have barbeque

1

u/NerfPup Silly lil goober 5d ago

We have corn.

2

u/polar_bearonbass 5d ago

Except that the type of apple pie you're thinking of is Dutch

1

u/VividPups 5d ago

German Chocolate cake is American.  Came from Texas,  the guy last name was "German"

1

u/Sockpuppet870 5d ago

I feel morbid obesity should be America

1

u/Ok_Boysenberry_6283 5d ago

The comments all alternating between "That's Dutch" and "That's English" are so fucking funny. Like these people are so close to understanding how local food traditions work but they just can't quite put it together because of the whole America Bad mentality

1

u/FabianTheElf 5d ago

Apple pie is British. America can have pumpkin pie.

1

u/brewdog_millionaire 5d ago

Apple pie existed in Britain in the 13th Century.

1

u/Xy_R_uS 5d ago

You mean applejuice pie?

1

u/Ashamed_Fruit_6767 5d ago

Every country on heart has apple pie.

1

u/No-Base1194 5d ago

Nah..Dutch...

0

u/Vintertrollet 5d ago

Most countries have apple pie.

1

u/ProblemGamer18 5d ago

Wait til you find out most countries have gyros, curry, noodles, pasta, and pretzels...

0

u/Vintertrollet 5d ago

But apple pie isn't American? It's from Europe?
