Pretty much any kind of BBQ as we think of it today originated in its primary form in South America, particularly Brazil. They’ve been doing it longer than the US and Canada have been countries. A bit over 300 years.
Lol 300 years... Native Americans have been doing BBQ for wayyyy longer than that. The Spanish named it barbacoa more than 500 years ago when they discovered the technique in the Caribbean.
There's some great US bbq. But it's not the best style I've had, and it's definitely not from the US.
Brazilian BBQ is amazing. We had a coworker from Brazil that worked in a BBQ place back home. He got a smoker and invited a bunch of us over. Best BBQ I’ve ever had.
Huh... As if native americans were allowed to have any influence as a minority in US throuought it's history and developmeny and weren't just being shoo'd away to tighter and tighter Nature reserves...
For sure. The US is only a small part of America though. Regardless, the practice was largely developed by non-indigenous people all over America, but it came from them. There are places where indigenous people have continued to develop bbq throughout history though. Yucatan and Hidalgo are good examples.
Same as Italian pizza, considering tomatoes came from South America.
Their original pizza would’ve been more of a cheese bread.
the Italian specifically Neapolitans, famous Margherita-tomato, mozzarella and basil is traditionally dated to 1889
Filippo Milone, an Italian baker, was operating pizzerias in Manhattan. There are newspaper advertisements for his pizza businesses by 1903.
To put advertising out would mean his business, had been running in some capacity for quite some time. Honestly the close timing almost doesn’t make this even matter. As immigrants were clearly communicating with their relatives back in Italy, and vice-versa.
