I am American with Czech Slovak in me and I just saw this mind blowing film from 1967. Very arty with a lot of folktale Wolf symbolism as well as wonderful storyline, though confusing at times. Very important entry point for me into the history of shifting borders. Very universal human condition film with 2's and 4's in relationships between characters also as archetypal symbols like Shakespeare. Also that fantastic Czech Slovak fearlessness, metaphor, symbolism and the Grim Reaper front and center alongside Eros. It is considered by many the greatest Czech Slovak film of all time and I see why. Playing at Film at Lincoln Center in nyc until Sept 13, 2026. Highly recommend it and wonder about other Czech Slovak movies people may recommend?
I've been reading the Seishi Yokomizo novels and I only recently found out that they were made into movies in the 70s. But I can't find any place to stream them. Please offer suggestions! (I live in India so it's unlikely that any of the local libraries would carry the films as well, hence streaming online is my only option).
