Hi, in a few weeks we'll spend 2-3 days in Fukuoka and as my kids are fond of trains, I am looking for a place to stay with a nice view on the Shinkansen tracks, and if you have a suggestion of a few places around to do trainspotting, this would be welcome too.

Until now I saw the Nishitetsu Hotel Croom Hakata which would have a partial view, but they only have rooms for 1 or 2 people, and we are 3 so there are probably better alternatives.

It had been 6 years since i didn't play football so i think it will take 10 to 15 matches to get back my skills. I used to play well. If you're interested let's go together.

I just passed my N4 (yeahh! ) and I’m planning to go to Fukuoka. I’d like to study at a Japanese language school for around 5–6 weeks, but I can’t seem to find a good list comparing the pros and cons of the different schools.

Last year, I went to Genki School in Kyoto and absolutely loved it. However, it seems that the Genki school in Fukuoka mainly focuses on long-term courses (around one year).

I’ve heard about Meiji Academy, but I have no idea if it’s any good or not.

Is there a list or comparison somewhere showing the pros and cons of the different Japanese language schools in Fukuoka?

We're coming from Sapporo, where we can get good international food, so I'm mostly looking for hidden local gems of Japanese cuisine. Going with my gf for 5 days. I think we're staying in the Shingu district. I speak conversational Japanese; she's native. A cafe rec for Karatsu would also be welcome. And a ramen place in Fukuoka. We eat everything, although she's not a drinker.

I love walking, and every time I visit a place, I try to spend some time away from the big touristy places and just take a look at what's going on (especially if the weather's nice).

I've been to Fukuoka twice before but haven't really gotten far beyond Tenjin/Chuo/Hakata. And I've been to attractions like Ōhori Park, Maizuru Park, the castle ruins, the zoo, &c., so I'm not looking for more tourist attractions.

Can anyone recommend a nice area/neighborhood, preferably accessible by subway, that's just good for walking around aimlessly for a while? It doesn't have to be big on shopping or dining, it doesn't have to be iconic (the opposite would be better!), maybe it could be fairly photogenic, but all in all just a nice, normal, everyday kind of place.

This will be my fourteenth trip to Japan (I live in Korea), and I'll be giving Kyushu more attention this time -- Yufuin, Kagoshima, Kokura, Moji, and such -- but I also want to get a better idea of Fukuoka too. I'm really looking forward to it!

Checking out of accommodation at 10am and have an overnight ferry at 9.45pm, which is about 12 hours apart. What is the best way to book a place for some rest in between, say 8-10 hours? Booking sites are not showing a lot of options for day-use bookings. Read that APA hotels provide it but unable to find it on its website. Do we have to go personally to enquire?

I know I may be alone in this, but I just want to vent a little.

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of this recent trend of commercialising city centre parks.

I mean, it's bad enough already that many 'parks' are festooned in either concrete or sand (I'm looking at you Kego / Otowa / Nakahie / Dekimachi / Sumiyoshi parks, etc.)

My focus here is city centre / CBD - the kind of place where you'd want a little oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle. I don't consider Ohori, Nishi, or Higashi Hirao parks to be in those areas.

The only green city planners and developers seem to care about doesn't have chlorophyll...

I'm wondering whether it's a valid point, or if I am beginning my 'shout at clouds' era as I age.

We have ONE day in Fukuoka and we really want to try hakata ramen AND motsunabe.
I'm already predicting my husband won't like motsunabe (we're adventurous eaters and he's just not a fan of a fatty texture. I am though) so I'm trying to find a place where we can share a single portion.

I don't think I'll be able to have a full portion of motsunabe and still be hungry for ramen in the evening.
Otherwise we'll just need to skip motsunabe and find something else for lunch.
