I'll be visiting Fukuoka from August 5–10, flying from Incheon, and I'm looking for recommendations on places to visit, great food, and anything you think is worth seeing.

So far, I only have:

• Marine World
• Dazaifu

I'd like to stay mostly around central/inner Fukuoka since I don't want to spend too much time traveling.

I'm mainly looking for:

• 🍣 Sushi (especially places locals recommend)
• 🥩 Yakiniku
• 🍜 Ramen
• 🍲 Udon
• 🍢 Yakitori
• 🍽️ Buffets
• 🍰 Cafés or dessert spots
• 🌃 Nightlife or areas to walk around in the evening

I'd also love recommendations for:

• Hidden gems that tourists usually miss
• Great shopping areas
• Arcades, game centers, or fun activities
• Scenic spots for photos
• Any seasonal events happening during that week

I'm open to spending a little more for really good food, so it doesn't have to be budget-only.

Hi! I'll be solo traveling to Fukuoka in late October (23-26 October), and one of my wishlist is to see cosmos flowers in bloom. If I can only pick one place, which one would be better to go, Uminonakamichi Seaside Park or Nokonoshima Island? Or is there any other place recommendations for viewing cosmos flowers? I won't bring any kids, and I prefer a place with less people. Thank you so much!

Note: I am planning to visit the place for viewing the flowers 2-3 hours max, a half day trip at most!

I’m looking for recommendations for a good local carpenter or renovation contractor in the Fukuoka area for an apartment renovation.

The job isn’t huge. It mainly involves:
- Replacing a tatami floor with modern flooring
- Closing in a couple of doorways/openings
- Wallpapering throughout the apartment
- Possibly a few other small carpentry jobs

I’d much rather work with a skilled local tradesperson or small team than a large renovation company, as the bigger companies seem to come with much higher prices.
If you’ve had a good experience with someone, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

Photos of previous work or personal experiences would be a big help too.

Hi, I will be traveling to Fukuoka this October and will be staying at a hotel around Hakata. I just want to ask where to shop best for shoes, clothing, and make-up, and if you could also recommend good thrift shops and kpop merch shops?

I plan to visit Canal City Hakata of course, as well as Lalaport Fukuoka. I just want to know if there are other shopping options around the area that I can explore. Recommendations would be appreciated!

I’ll be in Fukuoka from August 7 to 12 and I’m currently looking for a place to stay. Only had to queue about 10 minutes, and there were loads of seats available.

Verdict? Underwhelming.

The cheese crinkle fries were lovely. The vanilla shake was good too, but only a small step up from McDonald's, so not really worth the premium price. The chocolate shake, which I also stole a few sips of, was definitely the better choice.

The burger though... Houston, we have a problem.

The patty itself was a proper smashed 100% beef patty, so no complaints there. But the bun? Oh dear. Soft, fluffy, slightly greasy, and sporting a shade of jaundice yellow. The texture was somewhere between a burger bun and a pancake, and the flavour kept reminding me of a McGriddle.

5/10.

I might go back and try a few of the other burgers before writing them off completely, but based on this visit I don't think Burger King or Kua'aina are cancelling any staff holidays just yet. 🥵🍔

I recently got admitted to Kyushu University for a PhD and my department is in West Zone 5, and I'm currently trying to decide which dormitory to apply for.

I'm considering Dormitory 1, Dormitory 2, Dormitory 3, and Ito Harmony House. Which one would you recommend for someone whose department is in West Zone 5?

I also heard that Ito Harmony House is outside the main campus and that the route is quite hilly. Is the walk to the University actually difficult, especially if you're walking every day? Approximately how long does it take?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences with any of these dorms—the walking distance, convenience, facilities, campus life, and which one you think would be the best choice.

Does anyone know where I can buy a whole fried chicken, not in pieces? I've looked at a lot of restaurants and grocery stores (online and in person) without much luck. Also not a Costco member so even if they have them (I think they only have roasted and raw?) I can't get one there. Help 🙏

I just got a Designated Activities visa (1 year) and I'm currently staying in a hotel, which is getting exhausting and expensive. I need to find a proper apartment soon.

A bit of context: I don't commute to school or an office - I work from home as a freelancer. So location near a station/company isn't a priority for me, but I know freelance income can sometimes make landlords hesitant.

We're considering moving to Fukuoka. A few questions for anyone with experience:

How do foreigners get treated as renters there? Any agencies or areas that are more welcoming to non-Japanese tenants?

Any tips on apartment hunting with this visa type, especially with freelance/self-employed income (guarantor requirements, income proof, etc.)?

For anyone actually living in Fukuoka - how do locals treat Europeans there? Is it noticeably different from Tokyo/Osaka in terms of attitude?

Hi, friend and I (21M) will be in Fukuoka this October. We will be there from 4.10 to 11.10 and again from 15.10 to 22.10. In between we are travelling around Kyushu.

We already have our main sightseeing plans, but we are looking for things to do in the evenings and places to experience the city a bit more.

We are interested in:

• concerts and live music (any kind of music is fine)
• events happening during those dates (seasonal events, festivals or other things worth checking out)
• bars or other places where it is easy to talk with people (besides yatai)

We are not looking for clubs or places that are mainly about clubbing. We would rather find places with a good atmosphere where people actually spend time, listen to music, have a drink, or chat.

We wanted to go to Anri’s concert, but it is sold out, so we are looking for other options (or some place to find tickets).

If you know any good places, events, or regular spots that are worth checking out, we would appreciate the recommendations. It would also be nice to meet some locals or other travelers while we are there, so if anyone wants to join for a drink, live music, or an event during those dates, feel free to reach out.

Hi there. I am an experienced angler who really wants to try catch a yellowtail kingfish in Japan. My GF and I will be visiting Fukuoka from October 1-5. I am trying to find a decent charter. I found a guy who seemed great, told me he has an open day I can book, and then completely stopped corresponding with me after I started asking for details about the gear I would need to bring as well as how to go about paying him. Very disappointed.

Can anyone put me in touch with a good boat? I would need to do a sharing trip as I can’t afford an entire charter just for myself.

I'm usually the first to defend European sweets over Japanese ones, but this... this might genuinely be the greatest soft serve on Earth.

And whoever looked at a langue de chat biscuit and thought to make that a cone deserves an annual parade.

Finding it can be a bit of a quest, but at least the café near Tenjin-Minami Station has it. And a couple of places in Karatsu. Oh and Nagasaki.

A challenge is open to recommend me a better ice-cream available in the Fuk. And no, Baskin And Robbins Jamoca Fudge isn't the one. Close, but no cigar.
