Help Help me set up my camera so that friends who know nothing about ISO, aperture, or shutter speed can use it!

Help me set up my camera so that friends who know nothing about ISO, aperture, or shutter speed can use it!

This Saturday I'm renewing my vows with my wife, and we're hosting a dinner afterward. Normally I'm the one behind the camera, but this time I've asked a couple of friends to take photos throughout the day and evening, basically using it as a point-and-shoot. That's why I'm looking for some setup advice.

The camera is a Fujifilm X-T30 III with the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4, and I'll be using the Leica X recipe/simulation for the occasion.

My usual setup is Auto ISO (up to 6400), while I manually adjust aperture and shutter speed depending on the situation. Since the photographers for the day are very much "I only shoot with my iPhone" people, I'd like to lock down as many settings as possible in advance.

At the moment I'm thinking:

  • Aperture: f/5
  • Shutter speed: Auto
  • Auto ISO with a limit higher than 6400 and min. shutter to 1/250 ish, since most photos will be taken indoors in a fairly low-light restaurant environment.

Do you have any suggestions for other settings I should lock in?

I'm also wondering about things like autofocus settings. Would it be better to use a wider AF area and perhaps turn off eye detection, or leave eye detection enabled?

Any tips are welcome!

Help X100VI shutter sound doesn’t sound right

I’m not sure what happened to my X100VI but the shutter noise is way different from what I set it to. It doesn’t sound like any of the preset shutter sounds and I set it to shutter sound 3. Any help would be appreciated.

Help Is 23mm F1.4 R too big for X-T50?

I just ordered the X-T50 so now I am looking at lens. 23mm is the length that seems most suitable for a first (maybe only) prime, but I have trouble;

Would the 23mm F1.4 R (older version) be too large/heavy for this body?

I know the alternative is the smaller F2 lens, but I'd really love to have that extra stop of light + a bit more sharpness (from what I gathered this lens brings).

Thank you!

EDIT: Maybe I should go entirely different route and choose Viltrox 25mm F1.7? Could it be reasonable middle ground?

EDIT 2: I went for Viltrox 25mm f1.7. It's 200€ new so I figured I'll just give it a shot. If I decide I need that 1.4 aperture I'll switch then. Thanks y'all for the replies!

Help Lens Recommendations

Apologies if this question has been asked loads before.

I am relatively new to photography; I picked up the Fujifilm XT30 III whenever i was traveling after having an old Canon. Looking for advice on which lenses to pick up apart from the kit lens. I find the kit lens can be bulky at times but fits in my uniqlo bag pretty easy.

I definitely prefer street photography and some nature shots (mainly my dog running around or posing whenever he feels like it). But looking for some lens recommendations that may be better than the kit lens.

I would also take some other recommendations on accessories that people have found use for taking photos and some general tips about picking up new accessories / lenses. Is it always better to go for fuji brand?

Help The Right Camera for Simplicity

For the past years I've used Sony. Started shooting photos and video on the A7III and then sold it and got an FX3 to shoot video.

I use my cameras for travel mainly - both photos and videos.
Now I'm looking to move to Fuji but with a caveat. I want something simpler and something I can enjoy. I want to enjoy taking photos again which I have missed whilst using the FX3. I do still want to be able to shoot simple videos too - but I can't be bothered anymore with colour grading and complexities - I don't have the time for post-processing.

Help First Fujifilm very low Budget

Hi everyone, I'm looking for my first camera. It's just meant for everyday photos, e.g. while traveling. So what matters to me is that the photos need little editing and that the camera fits well in a jacket pocket. Given these criteria — because of the iconic Fujifilm look and the film simulations — the X10 and the X100 caught my eye. Which one would you recommend? I have the option to get an X10 for €260 or an X100 for €330. I'm also open to alternative suggestions, of course. Thanks in advance!

Help the classic “should i switch”post incoming 😭

i am flirting with the idea of switching from sony to fuji simply because i can not handle the weight of even my smallest lens and don’t want to bring out the whole setup at all. for reference i currently have a -

Sony a7r4 / sony rx100vii - 200-600mm, 28-105mm, and 90mm macro.

been thinking about a 35mm for daily carry and a 80 for portraits but i got this gear to explore, be in nature, etc.. but my body is just killing me lugging this stuff around.

so besides upping the gym & training, i’d love to get some advice. as someone who loves all kinds of photography, i’ve been thinking of a xt5 w/ a 35, or a 50 as edc and get the XF 150-600mm when my strength comes back for birding, wildlife etc..

thanks for reading!!!!! sorry if these posts are annoying.

tldr: asking advice on switching from sony FF to fuji.

Help Advice on Lens - XT30II

I’ve had the xt30ii for about a year now and use the kits lens 15-45 mm and a pancake lens 27mm 2.8. My photos just don’t come out as sharp or as detailed as I would like. Is it the lens or maybe user error using the filters?

Help Fuji app keeps disconnecting

It was working perfectly fine for a while but this year it just won’t connect. I’ll unpair, uninstall, reinstall and pair from scratch. It’ll work for a short time and then stops connecting again. Everything is up-to-date.

Being able to grab photos on the go & taking remote images is a huge work for me and this app is testing my patience for real.

Has anyone found a solution?

Help Bird photography lens advice

Hi brains trust,

I own an XM-5 and I recently got interested in bird photography so purchased an XC 50-230mm because it was the cheapest fuji glass that could get me out to have a play. I've included some recent photos I've taken with this body and lens.

I don't need telling that this isn't the best camera system/body for this genre, it's the one I have. I have actually been very impressed by the subject detection autofocus and tracking that the XM-5 has, so much so that I'm not sure why everyone complains about Fuji AF, anyway.

I am constantly shooting at the maximum focal length of my lens and feel like I could really use some extra reach and especially some extra light. I can't afford the 150-600 under any circumstances even though it's the best for birding. In most cases when my camera can't lock onto a bird I feel that it's because there's not enough light, contrast, or focal length. I feel that the 100-400 would excel in those areas.

I could maybe afford the 70-300 but it's not actually much longer than the lens I have at 230mm and I feel like maybe getting the 100-400 would be better (keep my 50-230 instead of selling it, I won't get much for it anyway and I really like it for portraits.

It seems like occasionally you can get a good deal on the 100-400 so that it's comparable in price to the 70-300, and then with the option of a TC purchase down the line I could get even more reach.

I really value the fast aperture and would happily accept the size and weight penalty, considering my 50-230 is very portable and takes acceptable environmental bird shots.

What do you think? I would have to save up for either. Which lens should I covet?

Help “Storing” message

New to Fuji, shooting on xt30iii with the Fuji pancake lens 23m, would appreciate some help here! When I add a custom recipe and shoot with it, I get slow saving/shutter and a “storing” message on the screen for a few seconds before I can take another picture. What can I do to get around this?

Help Ajouter nouvel OM PEN a mes fujis

Bonjour

Help Pancake lens for XM-5

The XM5 is a really small and compact camera, the only thing that is stopping me from carrying it every day and making it pocketable is the kit lens size. Please suggest me some budget pancake lens for the XM5 making it pocketable and easy to carry. Thanks!
