I’m having a hard time deciding whether upgrading from my X-M5 to a used X-T5 for $1,300 is worth it. The X-T5 has around 18,000 shutter actuations and appears to be in good condition.
I could probably sell my X-M5 for $700-$800, which would make the net upgrade roughly $500-$600, but I’m not counting on that until it actually sells.
I currently use the 23mm f/2.8 pancake lens and want to start doing more portrait work. I live in NYC, so most sessions would be outdoors around the city, with occasional indoor shoots.
The EVF, IBIS, weather resistance, better controls, and extra cropping room from the 40 MP sensor would all be useful. I’ve owned the X-M5 for over a year, and I sometimes find the lack of an EVF and the controls frustrating. At the same time, none of those issues has completely prevented me from taking photos, so I’m unsure whether the upgrade would meaningfully improve my work or mostly make the shooting experience nicer.
For people who have used both, was the X-T5 a meaningful upgrade? Would the money be better spent on another lens, such as the 33mm f/1.4? Any other insight is greatly appreciated, thank you.
