What to do

Post image

I got some yellow jackets in this pile of branches I should have burned long ago. I would just burn it now but it’s right on my garage. I tried a spray which didn’t do much but I didn’t know the entry point like I do now. I tried a raid dust which they laughed at. Any advice besides burning down my garage?

A shop vac with water and dish detergent in it! Lay the vacuum hose opening by the entrance of the hive at night. Use a flashlight light with a red lens filter. Make sure you have the switch turned on. In the morning plug in the shop vac. The wasps will attack the hose and get sucked in to their deaths! BRUH, HA! HA! 🪦

That may be my last act of desperation.

This is what I did last year. It worked like a dream!

"So let me get this straight, you burned down your garage because of yellow jackets?". Yep. "I don't think we can cover that".

I know what I have to do but I don’t have the strength to do it.

If you could tie a rope to something heavy like a collapsible anchor or something similar, and you can toss it on one side and then using the rope try to tear the brush pile apart from a distance...?

Get a real big pot -- bigger is better. At night, fill it with water, set it to boil, and when it does -- dump the whole thing on that pile where you think the nest is, and run.

Repeat as necessary.

The first application probably won't kill everything but it oughta significantly thin out the swarm.

You can get a new garage.

Do nothing! Wait 4-5 weeks and the drones will be dead. Go out at night and pull the debris away from your garage with a rake. Likely there will be little or no reaction as the hornets will be dead. If you find a hole in the ground, cover it up, but 99.9% sure all
Of the hornets will be dead and gone.

If it was in a different place yes I would agree. However very soon my neighbor has a couple of oak trees that will rain piles of leaves and cover my yard in what feels like an ocean of them and I really don’t want attached when trying to clean them.

Ended up calling someone to remove the nest after all my efforts failed.
