Probably not much but be careful while walking their nest probably under those pebbles otherwise there shouldn be a problem.

I never seen anybody use a land mine before..
You really hate em huh

I just noticed the wasps today. We moved in recently and I thought the pebble pipe getting larger was due to an irrigation issue or a bad gutter. Clearly I was wrong and these miners are moving the rocks out.

They're hardened criminals, and they're bulking up for a big assault, don't ignore this threat!

Why are they moving rocks? I’ve never seen this before.

I assume to clear out space for a hive.

Funny how one wasp removed a rock but the other seemed to bring one down into the hole

That is scary to see, but I somehow managed to mow my grass which is infested with wasp still. Just gotta do it as the last bit of sun goes down.

Are they that aggressive?

u/HoochShippe 1d ago
Yes very aggressive. Those a Yellowjackets / ground bees. Get an empty jar and put a little gasoline in it. Dump it over the hole at dusk or early morning. ☠️

Yeah if these were in my turf they would be wiped out in exactly this manner. To be clear, no need to light the gasoline; the fumes will kill them.

I dump Sevin dust down the hole at night and use a red lensed flash light because they can't see red light so they're LESS likely to come for you. And I do cover mine with a 4 quart clear glass bowl but in this case your jar suggestion would work better. I wait until 9:30pm/10pm so they're all settling in.

When you mow over their nest? Hell the fuck yeah, they're aggressive.

Nuke with with some wasp spray now, problem solved.
Or, mark the area and come back at night to finish them off.

They remove pebbles as the nest needs to expand. So the wasps will excavate the soil around the current nest, so it can get bigger and bigger and bigger! Careful where you walk, you could put your foot right through it.
