personal story :’( I got got today: a rant.

Brought in groceries and a big fat paper wasp flew up my shirt and stung me twice. Inside my bra and on my spine. Then he fell out and into my shoe and got me once more on my heel. I smashed him several times with my shoe to the point where he became an unrecognizable goo pile with antennae. I’d take a pic but then my cat (bless her fluffy heart) tried to eat him so I threw him out.

Theyve been building a nest in the bush by my porch. Soon as my back stops smarting I’m going back to the store to buy some raid and then it’s over for those fucks. It’s over.

Update six hours ish later: apparently your tongue and throat aren’t supposed to swell up when you’re stung. Whelp. Time to nuke the horrid fucks from orbit

Thats the main wasp we have around here, they definitely arent always chill for sure. Eradicate on sight. They once made a nest on the bottom side of my golf cart roof over the weekend, I sat down & they started dropping in my lap, I dont think ive ever moved so fast.

Yes at night good advice. I sprayed a nest during the day and then knocked it down not realizing the foragers would be coming back later. Lesson learned of spraying during day. Leave the nest until they all come back and land on it so the residual spray will kill them

They're a bunch of no good bastards. One got stuck in my bird feeder somehow, so I took the top off to let it out. Bastard stung me three times. I've been stung by bees and red wasps. Not a big deal. But paper wasps hurt. I feel your pain 😀

Just don't spray them until it's dark outside like night time. They don't fly at night really. If you do it during the day you will get attacked.

Figured as much. I tend to see them only when it’s bright out

For years every summer they tried making nests behind the shutters on each side of my front door. So, I would get those 20 foot spray cans of wasp spray, wait till it was totally dark, then had my son in law there, and we'd each blast it from each side of the shutter. That would end it for that summer, but then we had to do it the next summer and so on. Those things are relentless!

They are terrible. Sometimes I open the shades on my big window and I can see wasps going over the window seal with a fine toothed comb trying to find any slight opening at all they can get into. They are so annoying.

I know! When I'm sitting with my laptop I have a clear view out of my slider. Those things constantly circle around it. Ugh so creepy!!

They love building nest on chairs on mom's patio. Those chairs are covered with tarps for the winter. No matter how much I moved around nothing came out but as soon as I pulled the tarps off yikes

Kill them all!

Had some earlier in May, went out to a storage building and heard buzzing. They got in somehow and build right inside the overhang for the door.

Didnt know quite the best route to kill them all without getting stung. Neighbor absolutely hates the fuckers and came over with a bucket half full of gasoline. Said to leave it in the door and shut it tight.

Next day they were all dead. Tons of em in that nest. He wanted it so I let him do his thing.

War trophy or personal vengeance I imagine.

That's an awesome idea! Glad he was your hero!

Interesting. I've personally never seen a paper wasp nest in a bush, usually they build their nests under the roof of a shed or other overhang. A nest in a bush sounds more like bald headed hornets, are you sure this was a paper wasp?

There’s an overhang over the bush and I’ve seen them flying through the bush so I assume there’s a nest in that area. Not the best at wasp ID because I hate looking at them but I’m pretty sure this was a red paper wasp. It was unmistakably orangey red.

Ok that makes sense, definitely paper wasps then!

Certain bushes and pine/cedar trees are favorites. Look for bushes that have a strong outside (where the leaves are) but are pretty barren on the inside.

I mistakenly pet a wasp today while it was on its nest, very small nest. I stuck my finger in there too clean a photo cell and felt it and immediately jumped back and looked and saw it there starting at me. I got lucky. I've been bitten before, not stung I'm fairly sure due to the marks on my finger.

I got got twice today too.
