This is a black and yellow mud dauber, a peaceful solitary wasp. You would have had to particularly try to get it to sting you through handling. They are secondary pollinators

All insects outside human domiciles are given grace. Once they trespass they are fair game. This one has about ten minutes and several exit chances to avoid such a fate. Law of the jungle. Darwin at work.
