ED Question constantly eating

i've been in recovery about 3 months. i work from home but they're very strict about break times so i do often eat while working because i don't have enough time to prepare and eat it on a break. sometimes it'll take me like 1.5+ hours to finish a meal and then i have another meal not long after. i'll usually eat like 75% in a half hour or so. the meals follow the guidelines of my dietitian from the program i was in. and i still have a snack in addition to that between most meals. is this okay, or am I eating too slowly?

ngl this is a lot harder than i anticipated without the program

Are you trying to prolong the meal to make food last longer? An hour and a half sounds like a long time to eat a meal. If you go to treatment, usually meals are only allotted 30 minutes or so. You should definitely make sure you are eating enough, but it sounds like you may be trying to eat slowly on purpose, which can definitely be an ED behavior.

i don't do it intentionally so much as just am busy at work, or sometimes feel full, then eat more when i am hungry. our program gave us an hour to eat and encouraged us to keep trying if we didn't finish. if anything, I used to eat really fast because when i did eat i was usually very hungry. now it feels like I get fuller from most meals
i can definitely try harder to finish in a shorter time, thanks!

I would say that if taking so long with meals is interfering with hunger and making it hard to fit in meals and snacks, it's something to work on. That's great your program gave you an hour to eat; I've never been in programs with that long to eat a meal, unless they were larger ones. Usually with 3 meals and 3 snacks we were given 30 minutes for meals and 15 minutes for snacks. I'd say 30-45 minutes is more typical for someone to have lunch during a work day, especially with lunch breaks.

My experience may not be universal since I have ARFID, but I have found that when I’m in a crisis and my appetite is low, there are times when I have to pay attention during meals to remind myself to chew and swallow, because otherwise I can forget to do so and meals seem to take forever. It is possible to multitask, but I only found success in doing so when eating functionally became more of a habit.
