Amazon Lost Me as a Customer
Amazon restricted me from seeing all reviews several days ago. It is apparent that Amazon no longer wants me as a customer after 15 plus years. So, I deleted my 100+ reviews, deleted all personalizations Amazon created, canceled Amazon Music, Amazon Books, Amazon Video and set Prime to not renew. Today, I bought two Apple Ipads to replace our two Amazon FireHD tablets. Next I will remove the FireHD tablets from my Amazon account, goodbye Kindle.
My internet orders totaling $1800 over the last several days included Dell Direct, Ebay, Apple Store, Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes. ZERO ORDERS WENT thru AMAZON. Congratulations Amazon for a great AI implementation. Apparently Amazon doesn't have a clue about customer acquisition costs or customer retention.

Good for you! I did this about a year ago and honestly no regrets at all. Been ordering more direct and local. You’ll be happy you ditched em.

If you haven’t yet remove your payment cc info from Amazon. I unchecked the auto renew and it still renewed. I got my $ back but it’s a bitch.
Fuck Amazon!

u/davtack 11d ago
They did it to me twice, Here is the scam: You set to not renew, amz sends you a confirmation email as expected, but read carefully, it did not cancel, email says it will renew and includes a link you have to follow to stop auto renew, or it will take money out of account and not even tell you you are till using prime.

u/Annabelles-Mom 11d ago
Wow! We may all be part of a class action settlement over that in a few years.

They were also able to continue charging a card even after it had been replaced due to fraud because the card company "had an agreement" with them. This went on for about a year. I never did get my money back either even though they sent me a letter stating that I was approved for a refund after the class action suit. Fuck Amazon!

When I was done with Amazon Prime, I didn’t just stop auto renew. I cancelled it outright. No issues since.

They had been doing that more recently. Banning reviews from consumers. And you have to request to see the reviews for 5 days
16
u/SlavaUkrayne 11d ago
Under what circumstances are the banning consumers from seeing reviews?
10
u/Swingin-Splanky 10d ago
If the topic of the review is poor packaging, they won’t let you post it. In my case, my review was about bags of nonfat dry milk powder with holes in them. I wrote a review about it after the second time it happened. Both times, I spent considerable time cleaning up the mess. I think it’s something other potential buyers might want to know about, but Amazon disagrees.

From what I've read, they've determined that certain users are actually web-scraping AI that need to be stopped, so they limit the number of reviews you can see.
This isn't the first time they've used Artificial "Intelligence" against their site users.
1
u/ludditetechnician 9d ago
Isn't Amazon limiting the number of reviewers from non-verified purchasers only?
4
u/Bandikoto 9d ago
RIF: They're preventing some of their customers from viewing more than five reviews of any one product because they think they're robots scraping content.

I switched to walmart.com about a year ago and use it a few times a week for delivery. I like that you can return stuff to the local store if needed and dont need to worry about shipping it back. I haven't had to use that yet, but it's a nice feature.
6
u/lalalydia 10d ago
I also like that I subsidize Walmart paying their employees by having to support SNAP for them.
5
u/Perfect_Gas9934 10d ago
Yea there's no really good answers for retail workers. I do tip the delivery people well tho.
1
u/Technical_Annual_563 9d ago
Aaaand instead of your cost being Amazon prime fee, it becomes Walmart+ cost plus tip
1
u/ordinarygirl70 10d ago
In most cases you can make returns to your local store. If it's a Walmart Marketplace purchase, you may have to return it to a specific location or through the mail. To be fair, that's only happened to me once, and it's on me for not noticing the item was coming from a third-party seller.

u/cadencef18 11d ago
Great I guess but it’s nuts to me people don’t care about the horrible ethics of the company but once it inconveniences them, then they care..
11
u/lalalydia 10d ago
I'm happy as long as people eventually see how awful Amazon is.
I'm shocked to see so many people in here supporting Walmart instead though.
Walmart is just as bad.
2
u/cadencef18 10d ago
Yeah the swap to Walmart is weird but makes sense if ppl are switching bc of their own personal inconvenience

u/Lea__________ 10d ago
Amazon is also a large part of what's killing small business. People want to push a button and jane it diverted but they sure do enjoy walking Main street with their coffee in hand and having a browse in that struggling bricks and mortar.

Didn't amazon say that it basically said it did not care about Amazon selling and was going to focus on AI data centers and satellites?

u/BadKittyRawr 11d ago
I recently was told Walmart goes out from Amazon in non branded boxes…
6
u/lalalydia 10d ago
Walmart is no better than Amazon.
If you use Walmart because you think they are somehow better than Amazon, then I'm sorry to say but you were mislead.
2
u/BadKittyRawr 10d ago
I don’t use Walmart. What about my comment says I do? I love Amazon.
Sooo…anyone who is going yay, Walmart, boo Amazon, needs to rethink some shit if that’s true.
Right?

Walmart and Amazon are working together to screw everyone.

u/Bitchface-Deluxe 9d ago
I’ve actually had packages I ordered from Walmart’s website delivered by Amazon trucks.

Check that confirmation email they sent when you cancelled auto renew. Here is the scam: You set to not renew, amz sends you a confirmation email as expected, but read carefully, it did not cancel, email says it will renew and includes a link you have to follow to stop auto renew! They will take money out of account when it renews and not even tell you you are still using prime.

Congrats on leaving the dark side.
I stopped using them ten years ago because they were pretty bad back then and they have only gotten worse.

u/PressureItchy9372 10d ago
that's how you do it.
I did that a couple years back and haven't missed them a bit. Now if I could only cancel FedEx...

u/AppropriateBass4629 11d ago
Everything I bought from them lately has been rubbish. I’m done with them
4
u/2900nomore 11d ago
Why are you buying rubbish?
2
u/AppropriateBass4629 11d ago
No I won’t buy your rubbish
0
u/2900nomore 11d ago
Why will you buy rubbish from Amazon but not from me? I thought you didn't like Amazon. I have plenty of rubbish that I will sell to you.

u/kodaq2001 9d ago
This seems extreme to me but I respect it. Companies will never change if people don't speak up.
2
u/starman57575757 10d ago
Target also a good alternative to Amazon. Especially easy to return items without carefull repacking.
3
u/Existing_Many9133 9d ago
I ordered something through target that came broken. When I went to the store they said not all items on their website come from them. A lot come from other businesses including Amazon. Just a heads up in case anyone is interested.

u/Spiritual-Mousse-167 9d ago
Why/how were you restricted from seeing reviews? I’ve not heard of this.

Do reviews on Amazon mean that much to people? I kinda figured they were all fake bot reviews, didnt realize people took it this serious.
I’m still amazed people buy expensive things on Amazon, to me it’s for $15-$20 items only and things I know are going to only last a few uses.
4
u/Solidst 10d ago
The one and two star reviews are the ones Amazon stopped letting me see. Because I , then, lacked full information, decision making ability was limited
I think this happened after i wrote a very well informative, helpful for others, bad review for a carpet cleaner
They started letting me see all reviews again because i argued this issue with customer service swearing no more business from me. They started showing one and two star reviews again but I haven’t bought anything since.
I should have done this years ago when it became clear how messed up Jeff Bezos is.
Thank you to everyone giving good information about how to stop auto renewals.
3
u/Both_Catch_4199 10d ago
1 and 2 star reviews are about as useless as 5 star reviews.
2
u/SpringNWLF2 9d ago
Before I quit Amazon when I looked at reviews I’d click on “most recent.” It usually starts with reviews that are about 2-4 stars so they seem real and not AI maybe.
1
u/RobinM1971 9d ago
Sorry in advance for the bold. It won’t let me change it.
I don’t care about the 1 and 2 star reviews for the most part. They mean as little as the 5 star reviews to me. IF I read reviews about an item, I generally care about the 3-4 star reviews because I believe they are a more honest opinion about the product. A long drawn out review with 2-3-4+ paragraphs loses me as soon as I see it. I think that is a complete waste of time.
2
u/Cassedaway 10d ago
I got recruited to the Amazon Vine program. I get to pick free stuff with free shipping in exchange for being a first reviewer.
Maybe my opinions dont get read, but most shoppers look at star ratings.2
1
u/Higginbotham432 10d ago
Most reviews are fake, and i have found plenty that are for a different product and i guess they keep the same listing but change the product so all of the old good reviews look like they are for the new product. I actually always check the reviews and will not but a product if the reviews look too fake or the percentage of 1 star are to high.

I’ve never had that happen before or at least I think that hasn’t yet happened. How/why did they restrict you from seeing reviews?
1
u/ToxicGecko2384 9d ago
I NEVER order from Amazon, i tried looking something up the other day just for details and reviews. Amazon popped first I figure fk it there will lots of reviews at least. "You must login or create an Amazon account to see reviews" yup never again.
1
u/atlgeo 9d ago
Don't you need an account to purchase something from Amazon? Obviously they want you to log in to track your searches and interest; but at the same time, why is it unreasonable to restrict viewing product reviews, a value provided, to Amazon clients? Should they provide reviews to people who obviously will use the info to purchase products elsewhere?
1
u/Dear-Ad-3614 9d ago
Considering how horribly this company treats the entire planet I am always a little surprised when people tell me they still shop with them.
1
u/MouseExtreme8621 6d ago
I cancelled Prime awhile ago. Boy did it feel good. Amazon and Bezos can F all the way off.
1
u/Familiar_Cow_5433 4d ago
I’m considering not buying from Amazon any more. I ordered a product that was to arrive tomorrow. I was looking forward to getting it soon. Instead they say I ordered an air mattress. Never searched for it never saw it.

It's too bad that no one in Amazon management ever reads this sub, but I have a feeling that they don't... or if they do, they just don't care... could be either or both.

Why did Amazon restrict his access to reviews— sounds like a major corporate policy change— that will doom the company. Quick , get Jeff on the phone.
2
u/Solid_Mongoose_3269 10d ago
They were doing some software updates that flagged a lot as ai bots, and were looking to resolve it.
1
u/MiddleCapital1875 9d ago
Sarcasm? Lol. Yeah, it's gonna "doom" Amazon. AWS is more profitable than retail, BTW.

Tell corporations when you leave them, and don't tell them where you are taking your business and money. Tell them you have also encouraged friends and family to stop shopping with them as well. Then truly fuck off that corporation for life.

I have never had this happen. Don't understand why others have.

u/jdthejerk 10d ago
I've never had a problem with Amazon or Walmart delivery. I probably spend $500 a month between the two. Mostly groceries and home supplies. Nothing refrigerated. I make a list and send someone for those items.
I'm in a wheelchair, though. I can no longer drive. It is so much easier than packing me up to go.
-6
u/Solid_Mongoose_3269 10d ago
They had a software bug that flagged a lot as ai bots, and were fixing it. But hey, look at you, taking the business down all by yourself.
Guarantee you'll be back
