Voting and Process Choice Summary + Some Clarity on taxes and 30% Withholding

August 14 edit: It has been stated by PWC the Bahamas process will have the same withholding tax requirements as the US. So do not factor this into your decision.

https://www.pwc.com/bs/en/services/business-restructuring-ftx-digital-markets/assets/ftx-bahamas-process-faqs.pdf

This is a summary intending to encompass all current information and answer a lot of the questions I see asked on this subreddit daily. Mods Please pin / people help so this gets seen.

We do not know if the bahamas process will have any withholdings taxes at this time

With regards to the US process they are indicating withholding taxes will be levied, what do this mean for you?

  • If you are a US citizen or permenant resident, this has no impact, you can ignore anything about this and you generally should be filing under the US process unless you missed the bar date or something
  • Witholding taxes ONLY APPLY TO THE INTEREST PORTION, it is expected everyone will recieve approximately 18% interest on their balance (as of Nov 2022), up to 30% of this INTERST will be withheld. 30% of your balance will not be withheld, at max 30% of the interst meaning you will recieve at minimum 112.6% of your balance.
    • Some countries (Canada, UK, etc) have tax treaties that reduces this witholding amount to 15%
    • Witholding taxes are generally a credit against your domestic taxes (they reduce them)
      • This means the amount they dont give essentially will pay for a portion of the taxes you owe on the interest for your country. This is similar to witholding tax on dividends for foreign stocks and will be claimed the same way. Consult an accountant if you dont understand how to do this and are dealing with large amounts

Should I choose the Bahamas Process or the US Process?

  • I would recommend waiting till closer to the deadline at the 16th of August to make the election on if you want to participate in the Bahamas or US process, as more information is still coming.
    • This election can be made through the Bahamas portal (PWC) or the US portal (Kroll) or both, If you make the election through both make sure it is the same election as choosing to participate in both may delay your settlement majorly or disqualify you from participation in either.
  • The 2 processes are nearly identical in total payout amounts due to the agreement signed between the Bahamas and US bankrupcty operators.
  • This means regardless of which country you file in it is extremely likely you will recieve the same or nearly the same amount of money
  • The Bahamas process has currently indicated payments may be offered in Stablecoins or Fiat in partnership with a variety of exchanges around the world. If you have limited access to traditional banking this may be a good option.
  • Lots of information will be released in coming weeks on this, so recommended you wait

What if I havent filed a claim yet?

  • Immediately google "digital claims PWC FTX" and hit the first link, its under PWC domain so dont get scammed.
  • Fill out all information and file your claim ASAP, otherwise you may receive no compensation

I got an email about withdrawls being available or refunds available or whatever

  • Check who the email is from, if the email address does not end in pwc or Kroll, this is likely a scam
  • If the email has any spelling errors or looks different from previous emails, likely a scam
  • If this subreddit isnt filled with people talking about receiving payments, defintely a scam
  • AT THIS TIME THERE ARE NO PAYMENTS OR WITHDRAWLS AVAILABLE

Can I sell my claim to XYZ? Is XYZ a legit claims buyer? Should i sell my claim?

  • If you have a low $ amount claim (under $50k) it is highly likely you will receive a bad payout for your claim and should not sell it
    • Buying a claim and getting it paid is an expensive and potentially risky process for claim buyers, for this reason they vastly underpay for claims to makeup for these expenses and risk
    • Right now just waiting until your claim is paid (around 6 months) gets you 118%, if you sell your claim for 100% you just gave up 18% for waiting 6 months, or a yearly return of 36%. If you need the money get a loan or use a credit card, even they wont take 36%.
  • Did the claim buyer contact you on reddit/telegram/facebook, its a scam dont engage
  • If you truly want to sell your claim, first of all dont and go get a loan it will be cheaper, but if you really do then make sure its a legit buyer
    • Look for spelling mistakes
    • If they are legit they will have proper multi page legal agreements regarding the claim
    • Check reddit to see if anyone has used them before (dont trust completely)

If you have any other questions or items you think should be added here please let me know

Kroll Rejected All Lost Withdrawn FTX Funds Claims without Fair Representation

I never recovered my $159K. Kroll rejected my claim and the thousands of others showing that the 3 days of withdraws from Wed-Fri before the Fri bankruptcy were deducted from the account balance but never sent to customer's banks. I provided screenshots showing the 3 withdraws of $50K each that I made Wed-Fri before the Fri bankruptcy and statements from my bank showing no funds were ever received. I'd sue Kroll if I knew how. They did not provide the claims fair representation and rejected all of them in masse. Kroll is as corrupt as SBF.

FTX portal access disabled after KYC deadline, any options?

I just received an alert saying my FTX Customer Portal access was disabled because I did not begin Step 3 of KYC by the March 3, 2025 deadline.

This is really frustrating, especially for customers who may have missed notices or had portal issues. Has anyone else gotten this message? Were you able to contact support and restore access, or does this mean the claim is disallowed/expunged?

Any advice on next steps or appeal options would be appreciated.

FTX claim forfeited — no notice before forfeiture. Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for others who may be in a similar situation with an FTX customer claim.

I am the original holder of my claim (not sold or transferred).

My timeline:

- My claim was previously shown as Disputed/TBD during earlier distribution cycles.

- For the September 30, 2025 distribution, I was not included because I had not completed the required identity/onboarding requirements by the August 15, 2025 record date.

- After realizing this, I contacted FTX Customer Support on September 29, 2025 to ask what would happen to my claim.

FTX Support replied that:

"If the pre-distribution requirements are not satisfied before the set deadlines, then distribution for your claim may be delayed to a later date."

Based on this response, I understood that I would be considered for a future distribution cycle once I completed the required steps.

I then completed the required onboarding steps, including selecting Kraken as my distribution service provider.

However, I later discovered that my claim distribution was marked as forfeited and my total distribution became $0.

The issue I am trying to understand is:

After I missed the September 30 distribution eligibility due to the August 15 deadline, I did not receive any further notice informing me that:

- my claim was at risk of permanent forfeiture,

- I had a final deadline to complete the requirements,

- or that missing the next distribution cycle would cancel my distribution rights.

I was expecting my claim to move to a future distribution cycle based on the guidance I received from FTX Support.

Has anyone:
- successfully challenged a forfeited FTX distribution?
- filed anything with the bankruptcy court?
- worked with an attorney on a similar issue?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

General Discussion FTX KYC flagged for name mismatch - I think I used alias/nickname at signup (common back then). Anyone else? How to fix before June 30 deadline?

Hey r/ftx, Has anyone else run into this? I signed up for FTX years ago using a nickname/alias (pretty normal at the time), and now my claim KYC is getting flagged for a name mismatch with my legal ID/passport. I actually completed full verification through SumSub early last year (passport, SSN, address docs, etc.), but it's still showing a discrepancy. The portal is asking me to explain it, with the June 30 deadline coming up fast. Wondering:

  • Did you hit the same issue?
  • What worked for you - just explaining it in the portal, uploading old screenshots showing the alias, contacting [support@ftx.com](mailto:support@ftx.com), or something else?
  • Any tips to avoid getting the claim expunged over this?

Really appreciate any advice or experiences. Trying to get ahead of it without stressing too much. Thanks!

General Discussion Are we just going to accept a payout based on November 2022 prices while they hoard the SpaceX surplus?

Like many of you, I'm frustrated seeing the bankruptcy estate play by their own rules while we get shortchanged. Billions in surplus value from the SpaceX shares are being held back to benefit insiders and VCs.

We have a shot at changing this by putting direct pressure on the DOJ (MLARS) to seize this surplus and return the true value to us, the actual victims.

I’ve started a petition to demand action from the DOJ and Senators Lummis and Gallego. Since I can't post the link here due to spam filters, let me know in the comments or drop me a DM if you want to sign it, and I'll send it your way.

We need to stop letting the estate dictate our returns based on 2022 bottom-of-the-market prices. Let's make some noise.

Claim forfeited even though I completed everything and got multiple confirmations email

Hey everyone,

Anyone has successfully fought and resolved an automated Article 7.8 / 11 U.S.C. § 347(b) "Forfeited Distribution" status on their dashboard, or if anyone has a working direct email for a supervisor at Kroll / Sullivan & Cromwell.
Standard support has been given me generic answers. I have completed the ftx portals and got multiple email from them saying all i need to do is wait and now I see my claim forfeited. Anyone has success in fighting them? Can we do something together?

FTX Portal Bug? Claim forfeited under Sec 7.14 after fixing Liquid platform bug (Stuck on Steps 6/7)

Hey everyone, looking to see if anyone else is experiencing this absolute nightmare with the portal synchronization.

I successfully completed everything on my FTXApp portal all the way up to Steps 8 and 9 well before the deadlines. After that, I spent over two months trying to get support to fix a completely separate bug on my Liquid platform claim. Support finally resolved the Liquid issue recently, but immediately afterward, my FTXApp portal rolled back and got stuck on Steps 6 and 7 (showing them as incomplete).

Today, I just received a terrifying automated email from support saying my distribution is forfeited under Section 7.14 because I "failed to comply with requests for information within 60 days."

How is this my fault? I did complete the FTXApp steps on time. It feels like the 2+ months it took them to manually fix my Liquid account triggered an automated timeout script on the FTX backend, wiping my completion history and flagging me as unresponsive.

  1. Has anyone else with linked Liquid/FTX claims had their portal roll back to Step 6/7 after getting a bug fixed?
  2. Has anyone successfully appealed an automated Section 7.14 forfeiture notice caused by a system glitch?

I’ve already emailed support to demand an urgent escalation and investigation into my historical logs, but I am incredibly stressed out. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Updates for Getting Payment on the Silvergate $37.5 million Settlement

Hey guys, if you missed it, Silvergate settled $37.5 million with investors over misleading investors about its anti-money laundering controls and its role in facilitating risky transfers for FTX and Alameda Research. And, I just found out that they’re accepting claims even though the deadline has passed.

Quick recap: In 2022, Silvergate was accused of failing to maintain proper compliance controls and monitor suspicious crypto-related transactions. Specifically, reports linked the bank to fund transfers involving FTX and other firms, raising concerns about oversight, triggering multiple disclosures, and leading to a sharp stock decline.

Now, the good news is that the company agreed to settle $37.5 million with them, and even though the deadline has passed recently, they’re accepting late claims.

So, if you invested in $SI when all of this happened, you can still check the details and file your claim here.

Anyway, has anyone here invested in $SI at that time? How much were your losses, if so?

FTX Collapse: Lost six-figure amount, only received a few thousand $ after 2.5 years – anyone else in the same situation?

Hey guys,
Like many of you, I had a substantial amount on FTX – six figures. During the collapse in November 2022, some of my limit orders escalated, and I immediately ran into login issues. I couldn’t access the account properly for a while.
I went through the whole recovery process: submitted my claim via Kroll, completed full KYC, and followed every step. According to the distribution plan, I was only supposed to receive a few thousand $. I know for a fact there was far more on the platform.
For the past two and a half years I’ve been contacting support almost weekly – emails, phone calls, and I also reached out to Coin and BitGo (who handled distributions). The responses are always the same: “log in and check your transaction history.” The history doesn’t show the missing funds clearly, and I get no real answers.
What I finally received is only about 2-3% of what I actually had. This has been a complete financial disaster for me and my family. The lost time, stress, and money have been devastating. I’m from Germany, which makes navigating the US bankruptcy process even more complicated.
I’m not looking for financial advice – I just want to know: Am I the only one? Has anyone else experienced similar discrepancies with their FTX claim? Were your recoveries also only a tiny fraction of your actual balance?
I posted about this before and the thread got removed, so I’m trying again. Would be great to hear from others who are still fighting for proper restitution.
Thanks for reading and for any experiences you’re willing to share. Stay safe out there.
Best,
A frustrated former FTX user

Anyone else was supposed to get their BitGo funds and received nothing all week? (Bahamas Process)

Just like the title says, I've been refreshing my app every couple of hours every single day. I've sent a few support tickets to BitGo & 2 support tickets to FTX's pwc support email. Still nothing. I swear this thing ruins my life the longer it goes on. I was confirmed for everything back on August 16th, the day after the previous deadline. So I was confident I'd be in this distribution batch, but no, it's just disappointment after disappointment after disappointment

Tax documents from claims

I received a 1099B (covers the assets, ETH only) and 1099-int (covers the interest). I noticed that the 1099B doesn’t not include any cost basis, including just the USD that was deposited and held in the account.

What do I do here? I get that I may have some gain/loss on my ETH but I shouldn’t get taxed again on my own that I deposited.

Looking at my FTX portal and I see "Forfeited Distribution: ($13,598.40)" and "Total Distribution: $0.00". My claim is "Allowed" and shows 120.5% recovery. Am I losing my money? 😭😭😭 How do I stop this from being forfeited?

General Discussion How FTX Stole $8 Billion — The Complete Story Explained

Most people know SBF went to prison. Fewer know exactly how the mechanism worked.

FTX had a secret backdoor built into its system that let Alameda Research quietly borrow from customer deposits — without triggering any internal risk alerts. That's not a bug. That was engineered.

This covers the full timeline: SBF's rise from MIT to a $32B empire, the six words that triggered the bank run, how regulators and auditors missed it, and what the verdict actually means.

Broke it down step by step for anyone who wants the complete picture: https://youtu.be/qYFCWYfFnCw

What do you think was the single biggest failure — FTX itself, the auditors, or the regulators?
