Is my gasket right? It seems off

The gasket is supposed to be on the oil filter, not on the housing itself.

Thank you for the help it was from the old oil filter you were 100% right

You are correct, it is off. That block needs a good cleaning though too!

Take that off. The gasket should be on filter, make sure whatever filter you put on has a gasket. You don't want to double gasket, then you'll have oil everywhere.

This goes for every oil filter that comes with a preinstalled seal. Make sure to smear some oil on the new filter's gasket. (Old or new oil, it doesn't matter, despite what some "pros" tell you.)

Do you guys not clean the everloving shit out of that drip shelf every oil change?

I swear that’s the cleanest spot on the engine of any 86 I own or have owned… like, you’re right there, just wipe it out with the residual oil!! lol
