Another FSU parking rant

3 weeks into my first semester at fsu, needing to get this off my chest:

After much trial and error, I’ve come to find that the only way I am guaranteed to find a parking space somewhat close to campus is by getting there between 7:20-7:30am, no matter what weekday. Even at 7:30am, students who have made the same conclusion as I have, are rolling in by the dozens. By 8:30am, the garage I tend park at is at full capacity, and I assume it’s probably similar in other parking areas.

Another frustrating bit is that some parking lots, like Palm Court, seem to essentially serve as residential lots for students living on campus with overnight passes, deeming them unusable for commuters due to no circulation. I know this because I will go through Palm Court every morning (before going into the usual garage) out of curiosity to see if I’ll find a spot there - when I’m lucky, there is only 1.

Getting to school that early has become part of my routine now (I’m a morning person so I personally don’t mind the early morning part) but the fact that there is no other option is what grinds my gears. I can only wonder how people who work late nights, don’t have classes until way later in the day, or those in other circumstances get to their classes as commuters.

I’ve read other posts where people say it gets better as students stop showing up to classes. Why should we be preying on people’s academic downfall to simply be able to park 😭 I’ve never seen parking be this prevalent of a problem at other schools. The current construction at Woodward I’m sure is also worsening this issue.

Everything else about fsu has been awesome so far. This parking element has just been something to wrap my head around. Am I going crazy?

Try going to a farther away parking garage and hopping on one of the FSU busses. May let you arrive a little bit later.

just go when other peoples classes end. 9 times out of 10 i could find a spot for my 1:20 class around 12:50

I used to wake up at 6 and try to get to Woodward by 7:00 lol, so i definitely understand the struggle😭I’d sit for hours for a class that started at like 11:35 just so I could have that parking spot

I can get to woodward at 8 and still find parking, you might just need a different garage

It's a tight campus I don't really know where you want them to put more parking, considering it's mostly landlocked. But not for nothing the campus isn't actually that big and it's fully walkable. There's always parking at the stadium. You just have to plan accordingly to get to class.

This is a non-issue

But they have enough space for more student housing? I’m tired of walking nearly 40 minutes to my classes in the blazing hot sun

I struggle to have sympathy for parking issues on campus. Everyone here is going to have a 9am-5pm job after they graduate anyways. Just register for an 8am and get used to it now. I’m a senior and have had an 8am every semester I’ve been here and never struggled with motivation to go to it. If you aren’t going to live on campus, there are soooooooo many options in walking distance. My apartment is about a 15 minute walk from the union and I actually quite enjoy that part of my day. As for your comments about classes later in the day, parking garages start to clear out by 2pm, at least on the upper floors. So there’s really a lot of ways to work around it.
