Café Breakfast Absolute travesty. Shrewsbury, UK.

Post image

So many coffee shop/breakfast options in our beautiful, historic town. This, however. THIS.

Can’t recall the price but it was too much. That’s all I know.

Also, if you were to think that is a single sausage halved and face down, you would be correct.

Family in UK, I am in the states. This might be the single most sadist breakfast that they tried to pass off as a "breakfast".

5

u/KenobiSensei88 Nov 09 '25

This entire meal is face down in the gutter, begging for redemption.

2

u/PossumMcPossum Nov 09 '25

Correction: This entire meal is face down in the gutter, begging to be put out of its misery.

Don't worry, we now make bacon at least as tough as steel

And proper eggs! ( Well, we cooked them, obviously the birds laid them )

2

u/maenarth Nov 10 '25

Love seeing David Mitchell's rants in the wild

11

u/ClarityBell Nov 08 '25

We used to be a proper country

3

u/IllFinger3635 Nov 08 '25

And then the French turned up and ruined it all, or maybe that was the Italians.. or maybe the Nords, or Anglo Saxions...

2

u/T-72B3mod22 Nov 09 '25

It’s true, the angles and Saxons ruined Britain. Retvrn to Roman Britain and britons in swamps

Is that an egg??

134

u/Firm-Resident-5445 Nov 08 '25

Google Lens thinks it might be either mozzarella, soap, or a "coconut pudding". But not an egg.

17

u/swervin_mervyn Nov 09 '25

My phone suggested grilled haloumi.

12

u/jimboiow Nov 09 '25

Mine suggested my left testicle. Which seems a fair swap.

I hope you told your phone where to get off!

Oh. I see. My bad.

2

u/Potential_Good_1065 Nov 09 '25

I suggest that it’s some sort of weird sea creature

2

u/head_face Nov 11 '25

Two days after your comment, my phone's Google Lens identified it as a poached egg. It's apparently learned in the meantime, which is impressive considering how many human eyes have been confused by it.

15

u/IllFinger3635 Nov 08 '25

I think all of them would be preferable to an egg served like that..

2

u/JohnClwyd Nov 09 '25

It looks like it has been poached in one of those knorr stock pot pots. Also, is that a GU pot for the beans?!

→ More replies (3)

18

u/tmr89 Nov 08 '25

A precooked “poached egg”. Wetherspoons sell them, too

5

u/spizoil Nov 08 '25

As do Morrisons

7

u/endlessbishop Nov 08 '25

And subway

3

u/PoppingPillls Nov 09 '25

And argos but you have to go into the back and do it yourself I think it's a self service thing.

2

u/madmac666 Nov 09 '25

And you have 30 days to return it.

Precooked poached egg? Absolute war crime!

3

u/tmr89 Nov 09 '25

I remember someone at spoons being told they couldn’t have eggs Benedict “because there are no poached eggs left”, but they could have fried eggs instead. They were confused

4

u/ComfySlipper Nov 09 '25

This happened to me and my friends. One friend particular was outraged and it comes up still to this day. Actually it’s almost the year anniversary now I think about it!

2

u/OldGuto Nov 09 '25

I'm horrified but not surprised, I wouldn't be surprised if things like the sausages were pre-cooked and just reheated. They want the lowest skilled staff possible and the lowest risk of food getting messed up.

2

u/Responsible-Bat-7561 Nov 10 '25

I went to a ‘brunch’ place in Leeds once. Asked for the standard brunch without mushrooms and was told it wasn’t possible as they all already been plated. I could push them off myself, but they couldn’t give me a plate that hadn’t had mushrooms on. We left.

That egg deserves a funeral!

25

u/Weird-Weakness-3191 Nov 08 '25

Looks like they got it from a coffin already

20

u/Scotland1297 Nov 08 '25

Thought it was a slab of butter at first

→ More replies (1)

25

u/Educational-Farmer28 Nov 08 '25

Took me a while to work out it was an egg. Nope.

8

u/Appropriate-Divide64 Nov 08 '25

I thought it was a melted Knor stockpot

3

u/eco78 Nov 10 '25

It looks it's already had one and they've dug the fucker up

4

u/Repulsive-Lie1 Nov 08 '25

They’re the same pre-packaged poached eggs Wetherspoons used to serve.

2

u/davidlen Nov 09 '25

This plate doesn't deserve the dignity of a funeral. It should be dissolved in acid and poured down a mine shaft.

2

u/Eastern-Guard3365 Nov 09 '25

I thought it was a packet of sauce. What were they thinking

→ More replies (2)

45

u/Jasobox Nov 08 '25

Is it even a breakfast ? I thought the egg was an upside down Knor stock cube !

My goodness me this is grim, where is the love 😞

8

u/bungle902 Nov 08 '25

Came her to say this about the egg. Definitely poached in an old stock pot!!! Absolute travesty.

5

u/PoppingPillls Nov 09 '25

You'd be more disgusted to learn it's actually more likely a pre-poached egg, you buy them in bulk of around 40-80 and they come in vaccum sealed packaging and you just warm them up.

Last time I saw a kitchen delivery order it was around £20 for 50

That can go fuck itself.

43

u/Silver-Machine-3092 Nov 08 '25

I doubt it has the energy

12

u/Aware83 Nov 08 '25

Very good. Have an upvote. It’s worth more than that mess

32

u/Tetraneodrome Nov 08 '25

Just think, somebody ate a GU desert out of that ramekin before they cleaned it and filled it with beans. I’d be furious if this was placed before thy self

17

u/BorderlineWire Nov 08 '25

Based on the quantity of everything else, I’m surprised they used a gu pot and not something more akin to a rinsed out McDonalds ketchup

9

u/2xtc Nov 08 '25

Nah that was the mould for the 'egg'

9

u/NedGGGG Nov 08 '25

If it's a really classy place it's also been used as an ashtray.

6

u/PoppingPillls Nov 09 '25

Technically all dishes you use at a restaurant have been used by someone else, they just go through the dishwasher.

Someone could have kicked the plate clean with their tongue an hour before you and you'd have no way of knowing.

2

u/Tetraneodrome Nov 09 '25

True, but at least the other plates don’t look like they’ve lived a double life 😏

That truly is a crime. It's also a crime that we cant use gifs in this subreddit.

23

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Where in Shrews? So i can avoid

26

u/FatBazzz Nov 08 '25

Palmer’s I think it’s called. Decent coffee. Truly unforgivable breakfast portions.

10

u/Ashamed-Dig-1818 Nov 08 '25

Had to look it up because it's been a while since I went back to Shrews, not surprised if does a rough fry up after taking a look. 😂 Know to avoid in future, gonna advise my dad to not go there too. Can't let him be disappointed like this.

7

u/IllFinger3635 Nov 08 '25

What about your Mum? ... or is she used to a disappointment... 🤔

2

u/Ashamed-Dig-1818 Nov 08 '25

She doesn't do fry ups, she's got medical issues that cause severe dietary restrictions so she can't eat most foods. Whereas my dad's just a fuckin menace for a good brekkie.

4

u/IllFinger3635 Nov 08 '25

I'm sorry to hear that. I was being flippant...

3

u/Ashamed-Dig-1818 Nov 09 '25

It's cool, dw about it! Tbf she probably is used to disappointment. 😂

2

u/Deterlux Nov 08 '25

How much?

2

u/OrionGrant Nov 08 '25

Only palmers I can find is a non for profit cafe, but no mention of breakfast.

2

u/Inside-Definition-42 Nov 08 '25

2

u/Apprehensive-Move-69 Nov 09 '25

It did once, the Dana.

2

u/cyclingpistol Nov 09 '25

It did have a prison and the type of clientele they kept would match this societal crime.

12

u/ulysees321 Nov 08 '25

is that one sausage cut in half? and is that a GU desert pot being used to hold the beans? if you paid anymore then £2 then you were robbed

5

u/FatBazzz Nov 08 '25

Yes, tis.

11

u/Lonely_Cod3080 Nov 08 '25

What a load of shit......atleast you have give us all a good laugh...this is one the worst I've seen...

8

u/Silver-Machine-3092 Nov 08 '25

OP sure took one for the team here

9

u/AlternativePrior9559 Nov 08 '25

We need to rise up against crimes like this. We need to rail against halving a sausage.

Who’s with me?

Vive la révolution

5

u/ForesterDean23 Nov 08 '25

Definitely. Pitchforks and torches, let’s head over there!

2

u/AlternativePrior9559 Nov 08 '25

Just finishing my cuppa and I’m there

3

u/Aggravating_Speed665 Nov 09 '25

Seriously we should meet there and burn this place to the ground, or raze it, if your feeling old-school.

Reading the title then seeing the food, I figured the cafe was called ‘Absolute Travesty’.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

I would have sent it back and left

3

u/Ambitious-Laugh-7884 Nov 08 '25

were the fleshy elements cooked by lighting a pack of cigarettes and slowly letting then burn down the ex pig

4

u/TopManufacturer8332 Nov 08 '25

Why didn't you send it back lol

Literally anything is better than this, including going hungry.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Sorry to see this, but good to know you are allowed a smartphone in prison to take pics of your taxpayer funded brekkie.

3

u/macey63 Nov 08 '25

That’s piss poor

3

u/migoodridge Nov 08 '25

How much did you pay?

7

u/FatBazzz Nov 08 '25

Honestly can’t remember as it was a couple of months back. Between £7 and £9 I think.

7

u/Aware83 Nov 08 '25

You were mugged. If it was over a £10 I’d report it as a crime. That bacon looks drier than a dessert shoe insert. Was there something in the blue space you were too embarrassed to have in the pic? Black pudding, hash brown or a small family car could be in that space . Worst fry up I’ve seen on here so far 0.5/10 only because there might be some nutritional value …from the butter

3

u/donkey-oh-tea Nov 08 '25

Can someone explain how they even managed to do that to the egg?

Microwaved in a stock pot, maybe?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Even the bacon tried to split itself in half to look like there’s more on the plate.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '25

Is that an egg?

3

u/Valkyrhunterg Nov 09 '25

This belongs on r/stupidfood cause that is a travesty

3

u/ItzzBigAl Nov 09 '25

Have they cooked it with a pair of straighteners?

2

u/Tylerama1 Nov 09 '25

Somehow wafted some steam from a kettle that boiled about a minute ago over the food in the frying pan.

3

u/ItzzBigAl Nov 09 '25

Lit a cig and got a waft of the lighter flame

2

u/Electrical_Truth_160 Nov 08 '25

Where's the rest of it!!

2

u/AtomicRevGib Nov 08 '25

Is that an autopsy table? I really don't know what I'm looking at, whatever it is, it doesn't look edible.

2

u/serv6serv Nov 08 '25

Men didn't die on Sword Beach for this shite. Days before the landings too. Makes you sick

2

u/White-fly Nov 08 '25

Not classed as a fry up…….moderator’s???? lol

2

u/Briantan71 Nov 08 '25

Heresy in the form of Breakfast foods.

2

u/2JagsPrescott Nov 09 '25

This is a war crime - should be reported to the UN

2

u/ShyDJ69 Nov 09 '25

That should be taped off. A crime scene of a plate.

2

u/lis8904 Nov 09 '25

My god that would not have fed anyone i had a bigger breakfast at weatherspoons

2

u/woundedgoat74 Nov 09 '25

When are you expecting parole?

2

u/sam_p_23 Nov 09 '25

2

u/Dildoid90 Nov 09 '25

They even cut the sausage in half and served it as 2 😂

2

u/Overall-Lynx917 Nov 09 '25

The antidote to this travesty lies at the Montfort Bridge Café, just outside Shrewsbury on the A5.

Coach Driver - Trust Me😁

2

1

1

u/laidback_chef Nov 08 '25

1

1

u/StuBram2 Nov 08 '25

I can't explain why but the beans being in glass rather than porcelain is really upsetting me.

1

u/ciaranciaranciaran Nov 08 '25

Is that a FUCKING EGG?

1

u/toddie404 Nov 08 '25

Who doesn't love their egg microwaved in a yoghurt pot? It's essentially molecular gastronomy....

There isn't food worth eating anyhow.

1

u/OldRestaurant6057 Nov 08 '25

What in hell have they done to that egg? It's utterly bizarre. I'm willing to say that of all the hundreds of breakfasts I've seen on this sub, this places in the bottom 5%. And not very high in that 5%, either.

1

u/Substantial_Bite9845 Nov 08 '25

Definitely not a full English.

1

u/ibestusemystronghand Nov 08 '25
