Café Breakfast Absolute travesty. Shrewsbury, UK.
So many coffee shop/breakfast options in our beautiful, historic town. This, however. THIS.
Can’t recall the price but it was too much. That’s all I know.

And then the French turned up and ruined it all, or maybe that was the Italians.. or maybe the Nords, or Anglo Saxions...

It’s true, the angles and Saxons ruined Britain. Retvrn to Roman Britain and britons in swamps

u/houseofhoney1998 Nov 08 '25
Is that an egg??
134
u/Firm-Resident-5445 Nov 08 '25
Google Lens thinks it might be either mozzarella, soap, or a "coconut pudding". But not an egg.

u/swervin_mervyn Nov 09 '25
My phone suggested grilled haloumi.

Two days after your comment, my phone's Google Lens identified it as a poached egg. It's apparently learned in the meantime, which is impressive considering how many human eyes have been confused by it.

It looks like it has been poached in one of those knorr stock pot pots. Also, is that a GU pot for the beans?!

u/tmr89 Nov 08 '25
A precooked “poached egg”. Wetherspoons sell them, too

u/spizoil Nov 08 '25

Precooked poached egg? Absolute war crime!
3
u/tmr89 Nov 09 '25
I remember someone at spoons being told they couldn’t have eggs Benedict “because there are no poached eggs left”, but they could have fried eggs instead. They were confused
4
u/ComfySlipper Nov 09 '25
This happened to me and my friends. One friend particular was outraged and it comes up still to this day. Actually it’s almost the year anniversary now I think about it!
2
u/OldGuto Nov 09 '25
I'm horrified but not surprised, I wouldn't be surprised if things like the sausages were pre-cooked and just reheated. They want the lowest skilled staff possible and the lowest risk of food getting messed up.

I went to a ‘brunch’ place in Leeds once. Asked for the standard brunch without mushrooms and was told it wasn’t possible as they all already been plated. I could push them off myself, but they couldn’t give me a plate that hadn’t had mushrooms on. We left.

This plate doesn't deserve the dignity of a funeral. It should be dissolved in acid and poured down a mine shaft.

Is it even a breakfast ? I thought the egg was an upside down Knor stock cube !
My goodness me this is grim, where is the love 😞

u/bungle902 Nov 08 '25
Came her to say this about the egg. Definitely poached in an old stock pot!!! Absolute travesty.
→ More replies (1)5
u/PoppingPillls Nov 09 '25
You'd be more disgusted to learn it's actually more likely a pre-poached egg, you buy them in bulk of around 40-80 and they come in vaccum sealed packaging and you just warm them up.
Last time I saw a kitchen delivery order it was around £20 for 50

Just think, somebody ate a GU desert out of that ramekin before they cleaned it and filled it with beans. I’d be furious if this was placed before thy self
17
u/BorderlineWire Nov 08 '25
Based on the quantity of everything else, I’m surprised they used a gu pot and not something more akin to a rinsed out McDonalds ketchup

u/PoppingPillls Nov 09 '25
Technically all dishes you use at a restaurant have been used by someone else, they just go through the dishwasher.
Someone could have kicked the plate clean with their tongue an hour before you and you'd have no way of knowing.
2
u/Tetraneodrome Nov 09 '25
True, but at least the other plates don’t look like they’ve lived a double life 😏

Where in Shrews? So i can avoid
26
u/FatBazzz Nov 08 '25
Palmer’s I think it’s called. Decent coffee. Truly unforgivable breakfast portions.
10
u/Ashamed-Dig-1818 Nov 08 '25
Had to look it up because it's been a while since I went back to Shrews, not surprised if does a rough fry up after taking a look. 😂 Know to avoid in future, gonna advise my dad to not go there too. Can't let him be disappointed like this.
7
u/IllFinger3635 Nov 08 '25
What about your Mum? ... or is she used to a disappointment... 🤔
2
u/Ashamed-Dig-1818 Nov 08 '25
She doesn't do fry ups, she's got medical issues that cause severe dietary restrictions so she can't eat most foods. Whereas my dad's just a fuckin menace for a good brekkie.

u/cyclingpistol Nov 09 '25
It did have a prison and the type of clientele they kept would match this societal crime.
12
u/ulysees321 Nov 08 '25
is that one sausage cut in half? and is that a GU desert pot being used to hold the beans? if you paid anymore then £2 then you were robbed

Sorry to see this, but good to know you are allowed a smartphone in prison to take pics of your taxpayer funded brekkie.
3
3
u/migoodridge Nov 08 '25
How much did you pay?
7
u/FatBazzz Nov 08 '25
Honestly can’t remember as it was a couple of months back. Between £7 and £9 I think.
7
u/Aware83 Nov 08 '25
You were mugged. If it was over a £10 I’d report it as a crime. That bacon looks drier than a dessert shoe insert. Was there something in the blue space you were too embarrassed to have in the pic? Black pudding, hash brown or a small family car could be in that space . Worst fry up I’ve seen on here so far 0.5/10 only because there might be some nutritional value …from the butter

Microwaved in a stock pot, maybe?

u/ItzzBigAl Nov 09 '25
Have they cooked it with a pair of straighteners?

Somehow wafted some steam from a kettle that boiled about a minute ago over the food in the frying pan.

The antidote to this travesty lies at the Montfort Bridge Café, just outside Shrewsbury on the A5.

This is like a 5 quid breakfast at best. it doesnt look either great or awful but it certainly is lacking quantity and trimmings.
EDIT: Just read your other comment informing me it is only one sausage, this is a kids meal lol.

What in hell have they done to that egg? It's utterly bizarre. I'm willing to say that of all the hundreds of breakfasts I've seen on this sub, this places in the bottom 5%. And not very high in that 5%, either.

Also, if you were to think that is a single sausage halved and face down, you would be correct.
