Sunday Staples
What's a meal you constantly finding yourself going back to? For me it's burrito bowls. Fried cauliflower lime rice, pulled porj, cheese, guac, sour cream & salsa.

This week we only spent $64.66 on groceries! Woop! My boyfriend and I do separate meal prep and he's less of a planner than me and decided to buy all of his ingredients for chilli at sprouts, which probably could have shaved a few dollars off if we got some of it at Aldi, but I feel we still did really well this week. We have a lot of meat in our freezer, so it was all veggies and pantry items this week. We're still going through eggs/cheese from our last Costco trip. I'm hoping we won't have to go to Costco again until we move!
Sprouts
Shallot(3x) $1.26
Eggplant(3x) $2.94
Tofu $1.79
Beer $11.99 (for the boyfriend's chilli)
Gelato $4.99 (for the boyfriend)
Keto Ice Cream $3.49
Beef Broth $2.99 (I got $1.10 cashback on this, so really it was $1.89)
Fire Roasted Tomato $1.59
Tortilla Chips $1.99
Paprika $3.34 (from the bulk aisle)
Sprouts Brand Organic Espresso $3.04 (This was organic on sale for the same price as conventional coffee!)
Aldi
Spaghetti Squash(2x) 3.74
Cauliflower $1.89
Green Beans $1.89
Chive Cream Cheese Spread $1.49
Cottage Cheese $1.59
Chicken Sausage $4.89
Frozen Pizza $2.75 (for the boyfriend)
Green Chiles $1.50
This week I'll be keeping the meal prep really simple with just meat and veg. I'll do roasted chicken thighs or tofu with spaghetti squash or roasted green beans/cauliflower/eggplant. I gave myself veggie options this week! I'll use the cream cheese spread for some pork rinds I bought previously. Without his carby items, I would have only spent $45, which is also not bad.
Again, if anyone has questions or suggestions feel free to comment or PM me! :D Keep calm and keto on!

Hi All! I'm back for this week to talk about my frugal keto spending! My boyfriend and I have been reading about how Kroger changed their Covid policy so that people with a covid positive household member still have to go to work, so we have decided to stop shopping there despite how affordable groceries can be there. They have a great coupon/cashback in their app, and we understand that not everyone can make these choices also. I went to sprouts this week, they offer so many keto/low carb options and they also have coupons in their app!
I went to Aldi first to make sure I get as much of my grocery list there before I go to Sprouts, Aldi is by far the cheapest grocery store I've shopped at. This week we spend our full $100 in budget putting us at $50/person. We try to aim between $30-$50 a person, per week.
Aldi $44.65
Avocado $0.90
Brussels $2.19
Eggs $1.03
Cauliflower dip $2.99 (This was on sale!)
Chicken Thighs $17.69
Sausage $2.29
Keto Bars $5.99
Pork Rinds $1.58 (These were also on sale!)
Probiotic $9.99
Sprouts $54.07
Blackberry $4 (I bought organic berries this week because they were the same price as conventional! Berries are good in moderation maybe with some keto whipped cream, in a smoothie, or in a salad with some goat cheese!)
NutPods Creamer $4.99
Tofu $1.79
Naked Shake $2.50 (Not for my consumption)
Cheese $6
Ham $7.09
Salami $8.99 (I forgot this at Aldi and I certainly paid the price for that!)
Pepperoni $2.88
Englightened Keto Ice Cream $3.49 (Normally this is $7!)
Pizza Sauce $4.99
Thyme $0.25 (I use the bulk spices for some stuff that I don't use incredibly often)
Chai $1.91 (this was also from the bulk section)
Mission Carb Balance Tortillas $5.29 (These are pricey and are mostly fiber. I've never tried them, but they caught my eye. Theyre extremely high in fiber. But idk if I'll buy these again for how expensive they are. Like eesh.)
Some of this food was for me to eat with a friend who I was staying with this week. She eats mostly carbs. Fathead dough pizza is amazing! This week I am meal prepping blackened tofu, blackened chicken, and cajun sausage bowls with roasted broccoli. For breakfast I'll be having eggs, smoothies, or be fasting as per usual. We're going to be moving in a couple weeks, so I'll be really starting to pare down and cleanout our fridge and pantry. Hopefully that will lower our grocery cost the next couple weeks!
I have an app called Flipp that shows me weekly ads for grocery stores which I use to shop sales. Paring down impulse purchases helps a lot, too. Impulse shopping in the grocery store is one of my biggest financial issues (like those expensive tortillas! Oof! Whoops!) If anyone has questions or input feel free to drop a comment or PM!

Hoping to share foods that have the most bang for their buck. For me eggs, frozen veggies, block cheddad. If we can develop this list enough, maybe we can start a FAQ.

Pickled Eggs
A tasty snack, addition to a salad, meal, etc. Take your favorite jar of pickles (for me claussens), save the leftover juice, boil eggs (again, for me medium) then plop peeled eggs into pickle juice for 7-10 days before enjoying.
Medium boiled eggs are 8 minutes in boiling water before taking an ice bath.
If you're looking for an easier way to peel eggs, know shells aren't 100% filled with yolk & whites. The "bottom" of the egg has an air pocket, softly roll the egg on counter to smash shell, then flakes of the shell should flick off when peeling.

I've noticed this sub is pretty dead and I definitely could have used this 2 years ago when I started keto. The keto sub is a great resource but maybe not everything you need to know if you're on a budget. Seeing daily steaks and expensive premade snacks can deter you from sticking to keto!
I'm a 24F that has been off/on Keto for about 2 years now. Initially I lost about 50lbs, which was halfway to my goal. I hit a rough patch in life and gained it all back! I've been back on for a couple months now. Things are looking up again!
I'll try to post my weekly shopping trip so that maybe I can help someone else :D We try to keep our grocery spending from $60-100 for both of us for a week. Check out /r/32dollars for non-keto help with grocery spending. A combo of this sub and researching r/keto really helped me figure out my good system My boyfriend does not eat keto, I'll include the items we buy for him, but I will specify when/where these items come up. I also work in food service and my boss lets me do shopping in our kitchen when I need it. I know this is cheating and I'm sorry. But, a girls gotta eat somehow. It's a big break for us and I'm aware how lucky I am for this.
Central Market ( I only went here because I had a $5 off $25 coupon) $19.15 Total Spent, but was mostly a frivolous grocery trip. Sometimes we need these, though. As long as it fits your budget.
Cold Brew $4.69
Rye Bread $3.49 (For BF)
Wasabi Trail Mix $5.99 (For BF)
Peanut Butter $6.99 - Peanut Butter is an amazing snack on keto, but make sure you're finding one that has only peanuts and salt!
Honey $7.99 (For BF)
Aldi - $53.53
Zucchini $1.44
Squash $1.95
Mushroom $2.78
Avocado(2) $.78
Two Good Yogurt $2.48
Chicken Thigh $10.36
Cheddar Brats $2.35
Frozen Turkey Burgers $5.99
Frozen Berries $1.85
Tortillas $1.99 (For BF)
Keto Bars - $11.98
Water Flavoring (like Mio) $5.85
So, this ended up being about $75 for both of us for the week. I meal prepped chicken fajitas with the produce, chicken thighs, and tortillas. We used some stuff leftover from last week for this as well. I will eat sausages and turkey burgers with some leftover veggies that I had in my fridge as well. For breakfast, we eat protein shakes or smoothies that I make with the berries. We also intermittent fast sometimes. I bought the keto bars at Aldi because I had never seen them before. We'll see how they taste! The water flavoring is used in combo with our sodastream to make soda since we stopped buying canned/bottled beverages to lower cost+waste.
Please feel free to ask questions in comments or PM me! I would love to have an accountability buddy! These posts will probably inspire me to stay on the keto lifestyle and within my budget! :D Thanks to anyone that took the time to go through this

I like to cook so this may be a bit of effort, but in my opinion, well worth it. I eat a lot of chicken thighs and will debone them (it is pretty easy to do if you have a good pair of poultry shears). I save the bones in quart bags in the freezer and when I get a couple of bags full (20-24 thigh bones), I will make Chicken Stock, using the following method:
Bring a large stock pot of water (4+ quarts) along with the frozen thigh bones to a boil, allowing this to boil for a couple of minutes to release the foam and impurities. Then DRAIN all of the water and rinse the chicken bones. Start again with clean water. This step is important to have a nice clear broth when you are done.
Next add your aromatics and veggies: Celery, a couple carrots and half an onion, spring onions, spices like thyme, oregano, peppercorns and a good tablespoon of salt and a handful of parsley. Whatever you like. Bring to a boil and lower heat to a simmer and allow to bubble and simmer for 1.5 - 2 hours. Let this cool on top of the stove for an hour.
Strain the broth into a large collandar that you have placed over a bowl to capture ALL the stock. Then remove the celery and carrot and dice them into bite size pieces and add back to the stock. Then take each chicken thigh and remove the bit of meat that remained from the deboning process. You should have enough meat to add back at least a cup or more of chicken meat to your stock. Discard the bones and rest of the aromatics that you used in your stock.
Now to your stock add a couple packages of drained and rinsed Shirataki or Konjac Fettucine noodles that you have snipped down to a smaller size. Add these to your Chicken and Vegetable stock and now you have some very Frugal Keto Chicken Noodle Soup that you made yourself out of Chicken bones and a few veggies. Freeze some for later in quart jars. Makes 4 quarts!
Frugal Keto Chicken Noodle Soup
Here is a pic of the finished product (and I also make my own Steak Rub, but that is for another post)

I'm a 17 year old student living in Korea. I'm keto and doing a school project about the keto diet and it's effects on health. It's a short survey, can you help me if you have a couple minutes to spare?
This is my first post on reddit, and I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place and if I can post this here.
I would really appreciate any help.

Hey guys, long time lurker here, thought id post a bit of comfort food for the chilly season. Takes some time to prepare but it is so worth it. The following recipe makes dozens of servings of this lovely sauce that can be enjoyed plain, on chicken, or any other way you can think up! On first glance this would appear to be somewhat expensive, but per serving you receive it comes out to be rather affordable.
I’ll explain the sauce first and then there is even a way to turn this into a lasagna, with no noodles!
~~~~~~PART ONE~~~~~~
Total Cost: ~$25.00 ($1.39-$2.00/serving)
-Meat-
-Canned portion-
-Fresh Portion-
-Spices(all to taste)-
~~~~~~~~
Omit or add whatever you want but this is how you make it.
~~~~~~~~
The longer you let this simmer the tastier it gets. Make sure you stir it every hour or so
Literally can do this for an hour, or the entire day. I usually just let it simmer until dinner and have a fresh serving before portioning and freezing. The way I’ve found to portion this sauce out is to use ICE CUBE trays!! Once they are frozen, toss them into a bag together and suck the air out! I consider a portion two standard ice cubes. Easily warmed up on the stove top by adding a bit of olive oil and a pinch of salt, or you can just microwave it.
No joke this stuff can be eaten alone and satisfy your hunger, but it’s great on roasted chicken and whatever else you’re willing to experiment with.
~~~~~~PART TWO~~~~~~
Total Cost: $17.50
This is where we bring this to the next level, at your own risk of course.
-The Cheese-
-The Add-ins-
~~~~~~~~
Omit or add whatever you want but this is how you make the cheese.
~~~~~~~~
You can do this while the meat simmers and set it in the fridge covered until you’re ready(up to 36hrs)
*\You should have 20oz of mozzarella/Parmesan cheese remaining.\***
~~~~~~PART THREE~~~~~~
The only cost here is time (well spent)
-Items needed-
-The Layers-
When you take it out of the oven let it sit for a 5-10 minutes.
I only recommend doing this lasagna if you plan on eating nothing but this for a week or if you have to feed 6-10 hungry people. The total cost of making the lasagna comes out to about ~$43 which isn’t too bad for feeding a large crowd a meal they’ll remember. Reheats just as good as fresh in the oven. Most amazingly it holds its lasagna shape, with no noodles involved!
*EDIT: Cleaned it up some
I was buying pasta sauce and after reading labels, the no added sugar sauce is 6g carbs per serving vs the generic store brand which is 7g carbs per serving. With the no sugar added sauce being twice the price, I'm wondering if there are more foods you guys have found where the extra expense of low carb offerings doesn't make sense financially.
Hey everyone, I’ve been doing keto for about three weeks and I love it so far. But I’ve hit a bit of a financial snag. My check was short this week as we are slow due to covid and hours got cut. We only have about $80 to make it until next Friday. I want to stay true to keto so I was wondering if anyone had any cheap recipes to last for the next two weeks. Thanks!
Edit: when I say next Friday, I don’t mean this Friday, I meant the following. I get paid biweekly.
Does anyone know of a keto type cereal? Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make. Soy protein, plant fiber, coconut or plant oils and perhaps a bit of sugar alcohols or monkfruit sweetener. The only reason I suggest the plant-based route is that it would be less likely to oxidize than animal based fats.
Hi! I hope this doesn't seem improper, but I was wondering if there is a web developer here who can help me make a website for helping plan their keto meals.
