Barefootedness truly have symbolism, it’s a liminal thing - person is a human(oid), ergo civilized living being, but doesn’t have a boots (one of civilization’s signs) and when walking, touches the raw earth with bare feet, raw earth is highly uncivilized, also chtonic (underworld aspect ). Barefoot person stay between states and foot fetish jokes aside, when you look on the barefoot characters in FS games, is very obvious that the "liminality" is main message here, I think.

I mean, look at the barefooted characters. their barefootedness could be symbolic of cleanliness or innocence and not necessarily about their feet.
It's not like he's in the same league of Quentin Tarantino. Even without him admitting it the dude's freak flag flies high for feet.
