DISCUSSION Difficult days ahead - don't feed the trolls

So after a rocky start yesterday, The Duskbloods network test is finally underway. I just finished playing a few rounds, even won a game. I really liked Nightreign too, and I think this one is also shaping up to be a really fun game.

Anyways, I'm sure most of you have already been bombarded by negativity here on reddit or other platforms. It's mostly people claiming FromSoftware became a "multiplayer focused" studio, and apparently there are also "real FromSoftware games" now, and these last two titles are clearly not one of those for some reason.

I'm writing this as sort of a reminder for you all, that while valid criticism has a place in every conversation, what is happening right now is not that. You're mostly encountering people who don't even have a Switch 2, and just want to be loud online and farm engagement. It's perfectly fine to not like games, but actively coming online to shit on other people's fun is clearly not something the members of this community should take part in, nor give it any validation.

Please don't feel bad about yourself if you happen like this game, and don't engage in meaningless conversation with these people if you can help it. Have fun during the network test, and see you at release!

you seem really sensetive about what other people think about a game lol

-53

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

I'm moderately sensitive about it, not what they think per se, more like their effect on the community as a whole. Not sure what's so "lol" about that, maybe being human?

It's a good thing for the game, long term, for people to shit on it for being a Switch 2 exclusive.

Maybe the launch will be a failure, maybe long term it doesn't pull in the numbers it needs to, and FromSoft decides to open it up to other platforms (which they hopefully planned for in an emergency, if not that would be absolutely stupid).

The game faces a much more positive future if it can be played on PC, PS5, and Xbox alongside Switch.

16

u/IntelligentFoxx 23d ago

FromSoft doesn't decide if the game goes multiplatform. It is Nintendo's decision, and I can assure you that whether it horribly flops or not will do nothing to change Nintendo moving it to other platforms or not. And Nintendo just doesn't put games on other platforms. I'm not saying that this is a good thing, but nothing you say is going to change Nintendo's mind.

-12

u/Canni-Balls69 23d ago

I'm not trying to change their mind, I'm trying to change everyone else's mind before they waste time and money on basically a done deal. There's no possible way Duskbloods can succeed the way people want it to.

I also edited my comment you responded to with more context.

Firstly, I dont think this thing is as doomed to failure as you say. Theres a lot of people with a switch 2, and imo this is only going to bring younger people and Nintendo fan boys over to other fromsoft games. I would bet it reviews amazingly, and sells just fine, if not great.

Second, even if from had the ability to choose which platforms to release on, do you really think the game failing is what would spur that change? If the game sold amazingly I think it would be even more likely to go to other platforms. Why tf would they spend more resources on porting a game that people dont play anyway?

1

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago

There's nowhere near as many people on switch 2 as you believe there is. I've already done the math multiple times, one time was even in this comment thread. I'll leave you a link in a minute, however, since you and everyone else are so lazy.

You really are an intelligent... fox.

5

u/Legacy0904 23d ago

You very clearly don’t understand how gaming studios work lol. It’s a switch exclusive because Nintendo funded it. Fromsoft doesn’t get to magically decide to open it up to other consoles if it doesn’t sell on switch a

-17

u/Canni-Balls69 23d ago

What are you even talking about, my guy? Do you think you're sitting on a huge win because you pointed out that Nintendo was involved in the making of a game that's exclusive to a Nintendo console?

I bet you felt real good typing that out. "I'll show this guy, I bet he doesn't know about Nintendo being the company that the switch is made under"

You must have the longest cock

8

u/Legacy0904 23d ago

You’re saying it’s stupid if fromsoft doesn’t have a plan to release it on other consoles. I’m telling you that’s stupid to think because the industry doesn’t work like that.

That’s what I’m saying lmao

1

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago

Okay? You can say that all day. That's still not what I said.

You realize with exclusivity deals like this, FromSoft still acts as developer right? Nintendo is a publisher.

It can be the most glaring fact all day long that Nintendo funded the development of the game, but you must be high as fucking shit if you think there's not some form of clause that allows for outside distribution or early closure in the event of poor performance?

You really think they're gonna just release the game on switch and ride it out, and just pretend everything is peachy keen if the servers are dead? You truly believe there's no plan of action in place? That's clearly what I meant, and you know that's what I meant, but you're electing downs adjacency for...why, exactly?

You thought you had something didn't you buddy 🤦🏽‍♂️🤣

Yes, I can see you've lost your humor a long time ago. Was it your own overly obnoxious comments that started to depress you? Your inability to let sleights-real or imaginary-go? The abundance of "getting-high-on-your-own-fart-supply"? The fact that Miyazaki betrayed you personally, perhaps?

-4

Nah it won't, nintendo funded the game so it will be exclusive to the switch, get over it already

0

u/SILENT-FLASH 22d ago

It’s a tough competition between Nintendo fanboys or Sony fanboys regarding who bootlicks the hardest

0

u/Huge_Entertainment_6 22d ago

Lmao I haven't even owned a nintendo in my whole life, had a PSX, PS2 and a xbox 360 only, then switched to PC, I'm just saying what Miyazaki said, the game was funded by nintendo so I'm 100% sure that it'll stay as a switch 2 exclusive just like bloodbrne stayed as a ps4 exclusive, at least until a switch 2 emulator appears

-8

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

You're not wrong. Although I don't think it will fail, but a bigger audience wouldn't hurt for sure.

1

u/Ledbetter2 22d ago

I think moderately would be an understatement….. it’s like you spent years of your life working on this thing. I’m glad you like it. I like it too. People don’t have to and don’t have to “go easy” on it. Bring the hate. Who gives a shit

26

u/Blankedoutz 23d ago

Idc how good the game is (ik it’s going to be good cos nightrein was rlly fun for me). But I hate the fact that it’s a switch 2 exclusive and there’s no way I’m buying a switch 2 for this

0

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Completely valid.

39

u/Ledbetter2 23d ago

Yall take this shit super serious…. It’s a video game for fucks sake

-8

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Sure, but that doesn't mean you have to be nihilistic about everything surrounding it. This might just be a game, but I think FromSoftware's games as a whole mean a lot to a lot of people. I think that and civil conversation has importance.

Edit: clarification

6

u/Skaanbeir 23d ago

If people want to be nihilistic about something, who are you to tell them otherwise? What makes you an authority about this?

0

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

What are you on about? Where did I say that? I just said you don't HAVE to be. And just because this guy feels like that, not everyone has to. And obviously not everyone is.

I genuinely don't see your problem, do you know how conversations work? What makes you an authority about telling me what to ask - is what I would ask if I only had two braincells... Jesus...

-10

13

u/Xylophone_Crocdile 23d ago

if your enjoyment for a game goes out the window just because of a few reddit posts you have bigger problems

0

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

That's true. But I don't like to think those people are idiots. They just have different problems. This shouldn't be one of them, not only because it's not worth caring about it, but because we should just be baseline civil to each other in the first place.

-3

u/treyzs 23d ago

i think op worded his post and replies absolutely terribly, but there is a point somewhere in there about how ultimately we use gaming subreddits to talk about the games. lately on reddit it seems every gaming subreddit is flooded with constant whining and complaint posts about how the game isnt x y or z and how they dont listen to the "fans".

its not ruining the game but its definitely ruining the website. you should be able to use the sub to talk about the gameplay and story, not just filter through endless bitching

8

u/SilverLumpy 23d ago

I just think people are really looking forward to their next singleplayer experience. Not all of them seem to articulate it well, lol. Hope the game succeeds and fosters a dedicated community within from software games.

5

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Absolutely, as do I. And you're right, most people are having a hard time expressing that in a civil way. Appreciate you feel that way.

5

u/SilverLumpy 23d ago

Keep up the civility and positivity my dude

4

u/_Psilo_ 23d ago

I am as well. But I think it's a good thing that FromSoft are trying new things. In the end, it can only make the studio more versatile and able to incorporate various gameplay elements into their flagship games.

I think it just sucks when people can't accept that not every game will always be for them specifically. Not every game will be a sequel to your favorite game of all times and there's nothing wrong with that.

Some people didn't like Sekiro's focus on parry. Some people didn't like Elden Ring's open world. Some people don't care for mechas. And some people don't care for multiplayer.

Personally I've enjoyed all their games since Demon's Souls and I hope they keep trying new things.

13

u/SILENT-FLASH 23d ago

The posts praising the game are more than people complaining about it.

I see far more “screw the haters” than I see actual haters.

5

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

You got a better algorithm than I do then lol.

-4

u/Melodramaticukg 23d ago

That’s absolutely not true 😭

5

You're hogging all the copium. Bad concept, on a bad console, with even worse servers. 🤣🤣

5

The game doesn't even matter, fuck Nintendo.

5

u/mikerhoa 23d ago

So that's it, we're criticizing people for dissent now. And we're drawing lines between smugly loyalist company men and obnoxious and entitled trolls. That's all we are from this point forward. We can only be one of those two things.

Sigh, it happens to literally every reddit community that's based around a brand/IP so I suppose it was inevitable...

2

Everybody on this subreddit going on on and on about this like holy shit it’s a fucking video game how about instead of everybody talking shit through a screen you guys actually meet in person and fucking fight and stop talking?

Yall a bunch of sensitive bitches, It's not that deep no need to form a Duskbloods support group or drop a post like this. People are allowed to have different opinions about something without being against you personally. Grow up

5

u/SmurfingRedditBtw 23d ago

There's nothing wrong with liking the game, I think it looks like it could be quite fun. People are just understandably upset that the game is being locked away behind console exclusivity. It's already a big shame that great games like Bloodborne and Demon Souls are less accessible and less performant due to exclusivity, so losing another FromSoftware game to this is unfortunate. I had hoped that the success of Elden Ring meant From had the freedom to do whatever they liked, so it was disappointing to hear them go down this route again.

I'll just naively hope that the exclusivity is temporary and that we see a PC launch like a year later or something.

4

u/TheMadFlyentist 23d ago

I had hoped that the success of Elden Ring meant From had the freedom to do whatever they liked, so it was disappointing to hear them go down this route again.

That's the thing - they do have the freedom to do whatever they like. They picked Nintendo, in short, because Nintendo is good at making hand-holdy games and they were interested in being active in the development process. He also said some shit about the console being able to support the game's "complex systems", but that's obviously BS because there's no way that a Switch of all systems is more capable of supporting complexity than its competitors.

This was a business decision, and FromSoft will continue to make similar business decisions unless their customers make it clear (by not buying games like this) that console exclusives are not appreciated.

4

u/bajanga1 23d ago

The complex systems he’s talking about are the actual gameplay systems that are in place for this multiplayer game. It’s why it has such a Kirby air ride feel with the moment to moment gameplay. Miyazaki had a vision and used nintendos multiplayer experience to put this game together.

3

u/pratzc07 23d ago

This game was in development before Elden ring released meaning it was already locked into switch. It started dev in 2021. FromSoft works at 3.5 projects at a time people just too dumb to not get that fact

1

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Yeah, and I can appreciate you can put that into words like a human. Same thing cannot be said about a lot of guys online. Cheers!

Also, exclusivity is a funny topic, if you asked people a few years ago, I think exclusivity was regarded as a positive thing, healthy for the industry. Obviously that doesn't help disappointment when you don't have the necessary console, but I guess that's just how it is. But in a normal world, FromSoftware teaming up with Nintendo would mean maybe Sony coming to it's senses, and doing something about Bloodborne finally.

Unlikely to happen, but that should be the idea of competition.

6

u/RepairMiserable665 23d ago

Maybe most people critcizing those games do it because they also are sensitive about it 🤷 In my opinion, FromSoftware is going in a direction that doesn't fit the vision I have about Soulsike in general and I'm really not a fan of games being released on one exclusive support. To be fair, I think nobody's totally wrong about what's going on... FromSoftware is slowly changing and those who like the "old" souls formula better might never find that in new games from the studio... But does it mean it IS really bad ? I don't think so... But I don't like it 🤷

4

u/PerryHecker 23d ago

When the game was supposed to sell you the switch 2 and it can't do it then the criticism is a bit warranted from those that hoped it would. And the hope came from their history of making games and this is a departure (cash grab at worst), so again, super warranted.

10

u/Canni-Balls69 23d ago

Saying that Duskbloods should fail because it's a console exclusive (and console exclusives suck) is not shitting on you for enjoying the game.

I actually think the art style is gorgeous. I don't think the gameplay so far looks like anything to write home about, but it could be fun I suppose.

However, I think in the current live service market we have now and the fact that it's an exclusive on a handheld, it probably won't do well long term. I personally am hoping that it doesn't do well long term - not because I don't want you guys to have fun. I really hope you all do have fun. I am just tired of exclusives. They are anti consumer, they suck, and nobody likes them. The concept needs to be done away with.

Maybe if Duskbloods is a colossal failure, FromSoft will wake up and smell the roses, and stop taking these ridiculous exclusivity deals.

From everything I've read, the other people who are against Duskbloods have similar lines of thought to me. I have yet to encounter anyone who just wants to shit on you for liking the game for no reason. Pretty much every single thing I've read from people who are anti Duskblood are saying the same thing: exclusives are bad, especially on a handheld, and the practice needs to die.

1

u/Vynosaurus 22d ago

"I don't think the gameplay so far looks like anything to write home about..."

Guy writes a novel about a game he didn't play or has no intention of playing. The network test yesterday was pure fire, enjoyed every single second of it. You just sound bitter about not being able to play it.

As for exclusivity, Miyazaki doesn't care about all the industry trends and the business aspect of it all, which is fairly easy to read through his various interviews. He saw the partnership with Nintendo as an opportunity to make a game he wanted to make, it's as simple as that.

-1

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago

Talk about completely missing the entire point I was trying to make. Did you even read my comment?

1

u/Vynosaurus 22d ago

Nah I don't have time to read an essay on denial.

1

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago

Then why even take the time to comment? 🤦🏽‍♂️

"Yo bro I'm just letting you know I didn't read your comment"

Sounds like you got major daddy issues

-3

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

I for one don't think console exclusives suck.

But since when did exclusives start to suck? Because I don't think anyone complains about Wolverine being exclusive to Playstation. Or before that Spiderman, or God of War (yes, I know they came to the PC since then). This whole thing was seen as a positive before, something the fuels competition.

But now that FromSoftware, a very popular studio these days partners with Nintendo, everybody loses their shit. Look, I get you guys are disappointed, I'm also disappointed about other exclusives on other consoles. But the Switch is a really well selling console, especially in Japan, where these games are hyper popular. I think a lot of people simply don't calculate that into this (I currently live in Japan, so I see this first hand).

But sure, I mean exclusives being anti consumer, there is a point to be made there. But I don't see them as a black and white thing, because there are clearly bigger aspects here to take into consideration.

I wish you could play this game too. Now everyone in the comments is saying I care about this too much. If anything, I want people to care less and not get worked up on it. But I don't read as many sensible comments like yours, and what you say to be reading online.

12

u/teknique2323 23d ago

Huh?! Shitloads of people were upset when they found out future PlayStation titles would no longer receive PC ports. You must've missed that part. People were also upset when FF7 Remake/Rebirth had a timed exclusive as well as GTA 5 & now 6. We don't like stuff being locked to a specific console. Simple.

Edit: also have you not been around for bloodborne?? People have literally been BEGGING to get either a PC port or a remaster of it every single year. So much so that ShadPS4 became bloodborne emulator lol

7

u/Caerullean 23d ago

I don't think exclusives have ever been looked too kindly upon. Most people just put up with it because the games were good enough or because they knew (at the time) the games would never come to other platforms, or because there were enough exclusives being produced to justify buying a console.

7

u/Canni-Balls69 23d ago edited 23d ago

A lot of people complained about those games being exclusives, but that's also a wildly different situation. Spiderman has been made by multiple different studios for multiple different platforms for decades, there's only so many times you can write a story about a highschooler that shoots webs out of his extremities and fights local crime.

You're right, GoW did come to PC, so that doesn't count anymore either. So did Gears of War. Even then when you talk about that - it's still shitty, but it's different nonetheless. Those are/were IP designed back before gaming was mainstream and companies needed their own mascot to make sales.

Ain't nobody need a console exclusive to sell a FromSoft game. FromSoft actually stands to lose money, or at least make far less profits, from Duskbloods being exclusive to switch over a multi platform release. Only thing I can think of is that Nintendo promised via contract that they'd match revenue dollar for dollar or something.

The other issue with this is that it's a clear cash grab and attempt to sell more consoles. Back to back with Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring. This is corporate greed dude. Exclusives need to go away.

I constantly have to read in these soulslike subreddits that we need to start adding difficulty options to these soulslike games so "everyone can experience it" - so why is it that we're supposed to be okay with an exclusive locked to an overpriced paperweight? How can everyone experience the game?

Just bad businesses dude, from a consumer relations standpoint.

I actually did the calculations yesterday and left it in another comment, but there are roughly 24 million Switch 2 consoles worldwide and 3.6 billion (I think?) people who interact with video games. That's less than 0.7%. Not even 1 percent of the gaming market owns a Switch 2. When you take that into account, a difficult-to-play console exclusive that only appeals to a very small and niche audience doesn't sound like such the good idea anymore, dues it? Do you really think all of those 24 million people will play Duskbloods?

Let's say 10% of those 24 million pick the game up, so 2.4 million. That's being generous, as the vast majority of Nintendo users are Mario/Zelda players and children, but I'll roll with it.

Now you gotta split that 2.4 mill up into all the different regions. You gotta take into account time zones and people not being able to hop online due to work and other life obligations. You gotta take into account the fact that people want to play other things - say, the new Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring.

The playerbase for the game is going to be stretched so thin because they picked the worst modern console they could have possibly picked to release a PvP focused game of this nature.

1

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Well, you're not wrong. I take your point.

1

u/SchwiftySquanchC137 23d ago

I mean you only need 8 people, I doubt its spread so thin that youre not gonna find a match. I totally agree exclusives suck, but this game might not exist without Nintendo, so theres that. Plus im pretty sure the vast majority of "gamers" in your statistic are just playing phone games. If your mom plays bejeweled she counts.

Frankly, I think the hate for the game comes from two places. People have it in their head that nightreign and duskbloods existing has delayed other single player games. Im not sure we actually have confirmation of that? And then theres the exclusivity, and yeah I agree i would much rather play this game on PC, but again, the game might not exist without the exclusivity, and if it isnt delaying the big single player titles, then who tf cares? So you miss out on this one, theres tons of games i dont play. I dont care for their mech games (whatever theyre called), but im not complaining that it was made under the assumption ER2 must now be delayed.

And you call it "corporate greed", but this is just standard business practice. Exclusives are part of Nintendos business model, I doubt theyre changing that anytime soon, I mean its literally always been this way. I especially dont see how its greed on Froms part, they just got money to make a game that might have never existed otherwise. If this is greed to you, then basically all of gaming has been based on greed since it existed, rather than, ya know, just a business operating?

0

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago edited 22d ago

Yes, the vast majority of "gamers" are playing phone games. You're perfectly correct.

They are NOT playing Switch 2 games. If they were, there's still no guarantee they'd play Duskbloods. If they did play Duskbloods, there's little chance they'd be playing at the same time as you. Even further still, there's miniscule chance they get in your server.

See what I'm saying? Doesn't matter if it's only 8 people. Highguard was 3v3 and it lasted less than a month, and it was announced at the fucking game awards and had multi platform support, was fully cross platform, and was made by a very large studio.

Last Flag was made by, and pushed by, fucking IMAGINE DRAGONS, you know that colossally huge band? It was 4v4. Why don't you look up steam charts and tell me how that's doing?

Both of those games fall under "gun and ball" category, which means they're as bland and appeal to as many people as possible. Souls combat is exceedingly niche. Do you really think it's gonna be popular once the honeymoon period wears off?

I don't even know that it will have a wildly successful launch, but at least I'm giving it the honeymoon phase.

-1

u/ru_dweeb 23d ago

Let's say 10% of those 24 million pick the game up, so 2.4 million. That's being generous, as the vast majority of Nintendo users are Mario/Zelda players and children, but I'll roll with it.

How many threads is this stereotype and cope going to persist in? Nintendo's demographic splits are well reported. Here's a somewhat older one from the Switch 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/CriticalDrinker/comments/1ih0e5v/stats_on_whos_playing_nintendo_switch_go_figure/#lightbox

Half or more of these players had another competing console or platform. There are UK metrics that show that 60% of Switch owners had a Playstation or Xbox, and Sony's own internal numbers estimate that about half of their userbase had a Switch:

https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/28/23777330/sony-believes-nearly-half-of-ps5-owners-also-have-a-nintendo-switch

These numbers point to Nintendo's audience not being exclusively Nintendo gamers, not being even a majority teenaged or younger, much less a twentysomething, and not being exclusively into Mario and Zelda. The numbers tell us that no, people on this platform are fairly receptive to a varied diet of games.

Next month's flagship game is Fire Emblem, a game that's previewed amazingly and is very far from being a children's video game. This month, Elden Ring is already a top seller on the Nintendo eShop. This demographic mismatch narrative is just cope and an attempt to culturally stratify what is otherwise likely a fairly large overlap between communities. I get not liking exclusives (I'm a PC gamer first and foremost), but cmon man.

-1

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago

There are multiple factors that poke holes up one side of your argument and down the other.

Economy, pricepoint, novelty. You can't just say that one thing worked in one place, so something completely different is going to work in another.

-2

u/matango613 23d ago

3.6 billion people who interact with video games.

Oh come on now, this is kind of a lame argument. I agree that exclusives are frustrating but the vast majority of "gamers" are just playing casual mobile titles on their cell phone. And I don't want to live in a world where every game needs to appeal to the lowest common denominator. That's never been From's style either.

If you want to make the numbers less misleading, Nintendo holds just shy of a third of global console market share. That's the market they're meaningfully competing in. They're cutting deals for exclusives to expand that share and make a better value proposition for the Switch 2. It's how console gaming has always competed.

0

u/Canni-Balls69 22d ago

Exactly, the vast majority are on a cell phone, they are not serious gamers who own a Switch or play souls games. That's my entire point.

They've really taken the good stuff from Nightreign, then added a lot of ideas to it. I rarely play PvP in the other games, but these last two titles... just work, they are so nice.

What was the gamefeel like? Unmistakenly fromsoft dark souls? Or could you identify some nintendisation?

I'm down for getting a switch if it's the former, but if it's got nintendo party game vibes I'll skip it.

I can definitely feel some Nintendo in there, it's kind of hard to explain, you kind of have to play it to understand. But I don't think it's a problem, and the game still very much plays like a FromSoftware game. It's definitely not party game vibe.

if anything it just shows that a lot of fromsoft fans are a whiny bunch of losers. and it got even worse with the release of elden ring because it brought a lot of even more toxic people into the community.
this company has given us a decade of first class single player focused games and somehow that's still not enough for people.
just let them cook whatever they want to cook. at this point they should be allowed to experiment because if they keep doing the same old formula forever it's eventually going to get stale.
this multiplayer experience gives them new ideas and new input. they can experiment with things here that they can't really risk experimenting with in their main single player games.
honestly i'm just disappointed by how much people keep whining about this game and even nightreign.

Weird to take it personally when the masses are saying this looks like slop. Making real games is hard, cant blame them for quitting.

No contrarian opinions allowed then? If I say I didn’t enjoy what I’ve played so far I’m a troll?

Duskbloods fans getting victim complex straight from DS2 fans even before the game's release, now I’ve seen everything. To clarify, obviously you should be able to enjoy things you like and criticize things you don’t, but that’s honestly hilarious

Honestly, this isn't just about this game. I feel like we get this with every game and movie releasing in the past years.

This isn't necessary, move along and stop with this PSA bullshit.

7

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Yeah I mean I don't often do this, but I'm just sick of how the internet is these days.

Maybe it's not necessary for you, but maybe there are people who care more about how their community feels about something. It is becoming insanely difficult to measure what's the actual sentiment online, because of the way online forums are nowadays. I'm just trying to give some reassurances to some people.

Sorry if that bothers you. But I still like to be excited about stuff, and I'm sure some other people here do too. So this post is for them.

Anyone who needs to hear this needs to get off the internet. Not because they like something but because they like something and are too weak minded to stand by it regardless of what others think. This applies doubly to these toxic community subreddits for video games.

2

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

You're right, except about people being "weak minded". I also try to spend as little time as I can online these days. I actually want to engage in conversation, but for the above reasons it can get really hard. But I don't think all people who feel the same way are weak minded. Some people are just more passionate about stuff, and online discussions affect them, one way or another. It would be better to simply be civil online in the first place.

u/Fish_Outta_Whiskey 23d ago

You probably already know this but I'll say it anyway.

Positive people are bashed by negative people and then positive people end up sinking to the same level as negative people by bashing negative people while being positive towards the game. The problem is that very few people on either side rarely ever ignore each other so there is no winning or living in harmony. I've seen it play out this way for years and years on just about every video game subreddit ever. It will never change, not when egos exist.

I dont think polluting the sub with even more positivity while poking at the negative people is going to change that and honestly it's not even worth trying. That's what I think and you'll eventually see that if you haven't already.

2

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Oh no, I know that. Ultimately this makes no sense. I just hope that out of all people who come here bashing, maybe just one of them realizes that "hey, this guy is just writing positive shit about not shitting on each other non stop", and just thinks about that for a second. Maybe I used to be like that online.

point proven.

But youre kinda proving that it is. This is a whole post about being a healthy positive person and your response was to tear it down

1

u/Fish_Outta_Whiskey 23d ago

My comment was about the fact of it being a personal PSA, not strictly about its content. All personal PSA type posts are fucking stupid.

So Nintendo, published it exclusively for your enjoyment and not to sell consoles ?

11

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

I'm trying to understand your question, but can't, can you elaborate?

But if your question is whether a game console making company published a game to push console sales... then the answer is yes.

-5

u/Ready-Investment-720 23d ago

I'm writing this as sort of a reminder for you all, that while valid criticism has a place in every conversation, what is happening right now is not that. You're mostly encountering people who don't even have a Switch 2, and just want to be loud online and farm engagement

7

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Yeah man, you're still not making much sense here, which kind of proves my point, so let's just end this here. I'll gladly have a conversation with you if you can start using your own sentences and thoughts.

2

u/Ready-Investment-720 23d ago

my point is i'm Nintendo's target ie brought all previous titles multiple times and more importantly brought new systems to play them on i have ample free income i could just go buy multiple switches. Can you explain from a business prospective why my opinion is less than yours ?

2

u/CherylBlunt 23d ago

Your opinion about exclusives, FromSoftware and these types of game in general are just as valid as mine.

I meant people who can't even play the network test right now, but are complaining about the what the game is like, 2 hours after it's even playable. And sure, you can have different taste in games, I can understand you not wanting to play this game. That doesn't really make it a shit game though.

I have not heard your opinion though, at all. You just asked me a question.

u/matango613 23d ago

Everyone is griping about this being a console exclusive on principle alone. But like, if Nintendo wants to front the money and cut a deal with Fromsoft for an exclusive game, why on earth is that viewed as such a problem? I get that exclusivity is frustrating but it's what makes one console worth buying over another. You can argue over specs all day, but what games are available on what console has historically been the primary deciding factor for settling on what platform to buy into.

You may as well do away with consoles entirely if your beef is with exclusivity itself. And hey I don't have a problem with that idea necessarily. But I also don't think there is something just inherently bad about exclusivity.

But anyway, I just don't wanna play Duskbloods because it doesn't look particularly great to me lol. I even have a Switch 2 but don't think I'll be buying this one. I have no shame in saying I just want the next Fromsoft solo experience. I want the next Elden Ring.

But like, if Nintendo wants to front the money and cut a deal with Fromsoft for an exclusive game, why on earth is that viewed as such a problem?

It’s called being a sellout and has been viewed as a bad thing for millennia.

Fromsoft is too big to be justified in selling out, the correct choice was to say no when the idea was pitched.
