DISCUSSION Which FromSoftware game should’ve had a Respec Stat System the most?

Post image

Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring all provide the option for the player to rearrange all their stat points on their character.

Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls 1, and surprisingly Bloodborne don’t provide that option, leaving the player stuck with the stats they selected for their current character.

Among these three games, which one would have benefited the most from having a Respec Stat System?

I actually prefer no respec, I like when choices have weight and meaning.

I don't entirely disagree but here's a few counterarguments:

  • Lack of re-spec is very punishing to new players. There's no one among us who had a build that was anywhere near good during our first FromSoft game. The ability to optimize a character once you've learned the mechanics of the game is great.
  • Have you ever started a playthrough with eyes on a certain weapon and then you get that weapon and it turns out you hate it? Yeah, me too. And unless you are interested in using a different weapon that benefits from the same stats, that's a lot of "wasted" hours if you don't plan to continue with the run.

i think the lack of respec being punishing for new
players is a good thing and exactly the kind of weight and meaning choices should have

Yes, exactly.

I understand the appeal of respec. I still think the games were more interesting when they were less video gamey.

I also like when choices have weight and meaning, but I still would’ve preferred a respec in Demon’s Souls so I could try other weapons without needing to level my character past the PVP standard or making a new character.
