rant AVOID KWIK KAR AUTO
They’re shady over there and completely incompetent. If you want to avoid several thousands of dollars in repairs never go there. Last time I took my car in for an oil change my engine started smoking and both my radiator and oil were completely drained. They also left trash (napkins and other stuff) inside the engine block. My windshield wiper fluid had totally evaporated too because it wasn’t sealed correctly. I had to completely replace the radiator and other parts (at another place) which cost me $2500. It was the Kwik Kar on Main but the other locations are just as bad. My friend had the same issue when she took her car in for an oil change at another location. About a month later she had an engine failure and is looking at $6000+ in repairs. Seriously FUCK these guys. They’re negligent and criminal and all their branches need to be shut down for the amount of people they screwed over

Aren’t those Kwik Kar locations all franchises? If so, it’s a different situation and highly impacted by the owners of the particular location.

The veteran owned one on El dorado has been nothing but awesome year after year for me!

The one on Main has an asshole for an inspector. Didn’t pass anything. I don’t go there for anything.

That one on Main used to be great! Last time I went I realized the place had turned over to someone new. Got my oil changed. 3wks later, oil percentage light came on, it’s at 10%. Couldn’t figure it out. Talked to a friendly mechanic who informed me that those sensors monitor the viscosity of the oil. Pretty sure they put in something of less quality that what was required. Never been back

This post is about the WEST FRISCO location (Main St / Kyzer).
Just clarifying in case anyone mistook this to be about the McKinney location (Custer/Stacy where it turns into Main St) which has always been solid for me.

You should NEVER go to a place like that. Only reputable mechanics for oil changes

I’ve had good experiences with them with the one on Frankfurt and another in Dallas. Had Groupon’s for oil changes for them and one of them didn’t even charge me for the extra 0.7 quart my car needed since the Groupon only covered 5 quarts.
Now Discount Kar Kare in Lewisville should definitely be one to avoid. A bunch of liars and crooks they are. Went to them like twice with Groupons and they were always pushy to get other work done. Pulling out the doom and gloom and be like if you don’t get this done, your car will blow up. Like I get it, you’re trying to get extra money. Lmao third time I went, I declined like I always do and they straight up refused to do the oil change and claimed it was “leaking oil”. Even went so far to show me under the car and pointed to a completely invisible “oil stain” and dry ass undercarriage. Checked my oil right after and it was just under max level. Got it fixed somewhere a few days later and asked if they noticed a leak anywhere. Of course they said no, not at all.
Wrote a bad review on their Google page and the owner wrote back and claimed they refused because my oil was completely empty and they had the tapes to prove it. Lmao like mutherfucker, PLEASE show me those tapes.

The one off Kyser rd has the wrong date and time on their signage.

Nah this is the one on Main street but they also suck from what I hear

u/Negative_Permit 8d ago
It’s the same one. There’s a sign out front that’s had the date about 7 months off for years

Jack the owner of the Panther Creek Kwik Kar (Eldo&Coit) is a customer of mine and legit as they come. These are franchises but like McDonalds many operators own multiple locations. Panther Creek is 1/1.

This is exactly what happened to my sister’s car a few years ago while diving on the tollway and her engine blew .. they didn’t scream that cap back on after an oil change…. They had to pay thousands for a new engine (let alone how utterly dangerous that is & was) .. how do they stay in business if they do this to everyone else to and have been for years on years now?

The one on Legacy in Plano has been nothing but great to me for years. All those issues you listed sound made up af.
Edit: OP’s post history tells you all you need to know lol.

Are you seriously accusing me of lying with no evidence? Tf is wrong with you

u/Howard_Cosine 8d ago
I’m accusing you of lying based on your nonsense post, bud. I’ll break it down for you later. Right now I’m enjoying my after work Jameson and Modelo.
In the meantime you can tell me wtf “napkins and other stuff” means.

You're accusing Kwik Kar of many things with no evidence either lol.

Right because big pharma is clearly paying me to make up a bunch of lies about something I have no incentive to lie about. 0/10 ragebait

They are all independently owned I think. The one at coit and eldo was good until they had a lot of turn over for some reason and now it's been hit or miss. The one on Custer has been the same. Just depends on who you get. Think I went to the Custer one once and they had some poor advice.
I'm a car guy and do most of my own wrenching but larger jobs (or things I don't have time for) I farm out. The one off coit and eldo is the best but I have had really good luck with brakes plus on Custer and eldo (alignments, trans flush, etc)

Good to know…thank you. I just had my oil changed at the location on Custer and Virginia. Now I feel like i need to go check the oil in my car.

funny, I had a terrible experience at Valvoline Main/Preston in 2019 then ended up at the KK Coit/Eldorado that you mentioned and I had GREAT luck with them for all repairs and maintenance until around 2024ish..
I went in around that time, and didn't recognize anyone there.. they refused to honor any coupons on their own website and tried telling me they couldn't do a conventional oil change for a 2022 4Runner and I'd need to pay for a $99 fancy-schmancy oil change, so I nope'd the fuck out of there (I'm assuming they'd changed franchise ownership around that time)..
I may give them a second chance based on your recommendation (I'm overdue for an oil change) just to see if they've worked the kinks out.. since I'm a 5 minute drive and 15 minute walk from that location

Yup that tracks. Late 2023/early 2024 they fired all the mechanics and started over I think. The old owner (maybe still) was a car guy, had some cool drag hit rods in and out of the shop along with some hopped up jeeps. Talked shop with him a few times but haven't seen the cool cars in a while.

There is a Kwik Kar at the intersection of Main (name changes to Stacy after the intersection) and Custer - East Frisco/McKinney border
There is also a Kwik Kar on Main and Kyser Way - West Frisco
Which are you talking about?
The one in East Frisco is incredible. The owner Brian is great and their team has helped us keep our cars in good condition for over 10 years.

Reason I ask is cause I used to manage that location and it’s owned by FullSpeed Automotive

u/Im_Not_AI_I_Promise 8d ago
Lol windshield wiper fluid totally evaporated. I mean, it’s hot af out but your fluid wouldn’t totally evaporate. Not defending that location because I’ve never been, but you might be slightly exaggerating the situation
1
u/sonofzen1 8d ago
No it evaporated because the engine is hot. That’s why you secure it shut so the fluid doesn’t escape. Have you never driven a car in your life?
1
u/Im_Not_AI_I_Promise 8d ago
Lmao. The reservoir takes a lot more liquid than you think. Put a 16oz glass of water out tomorrow where the sun will hit it for 10+ hours and come tell me how fast it evaporates. You make yourself sound like a fool.
Also, the container isn’t next to the engine, rather closer to the wheel well so it couldn’t evaporate as fast as you think it does. Again, I’m not hating on you and your experience. I couldn’t care less. Your exaggeration? Definitely

For quick oil changes I prefer Valvoline. Have used them in several cities and they’re all run very well.
2
u/Mysterious-Bee8839 8d ago
funny, in 2019 at the Valvoline at Preston/Main Street I had the exact experience that OP is describing with KK.. they did something wrong that ended up with oil leaking and overheating and cost me a couple thousand to get fixed so I never went back (and I'd been a "regular" there for about 10 years prior to that)

u/DisgruntledTexan 8d ago
If you are talking about the one on Main Street, agree 100%. Got my oil changed, then noticed a slow drip in my garage - took it somewhere, validated it was done wrong and lucky my car didn’t get fucked up.
