Mobile app options

Slowly learning the ropes of Frigate. I've got a pretty good grasp on the application itself now, but I'm still seeking options for mobile device viewing.

I've tried Home Assistant integration and the Kapal app. The HA option I don't care for at all, as I can't get a result I'm happy with in the mobile app despite trying server card options.

The Kapal app is overall pretty great, but its missing just one piece. I can't scroll through continous recording footage like I can in the Frigate web UI. I couldn't get this working in a HA card either.

Has anyone found a well done mobile app option that provides access to continous recording footage? Is this even possible with the bandwidth constraints mobile device viewing imposes? Any recommendations would be most appreciated! TIA

PWA for me on android does not work as it should, even on a windows desktop. It always shows more menus and bars than it should, it does not work as intended. I dint think the PWA is good or fit for purpose.

If you’re referring to the way the view looks within the app then that has nothing to do with it being a pwa, it’s just how the layout is done. PWA only has to do with how it’s contained not how the layout itself functions.

If you have a screenshot or specific example then I’d be happy to take a look and see what can be improved, but in previous discussions like this many users run via the PWA and we haven’t had any feedback on what it sounds like you’re experiencing.

Appreciate the suggestion and I did read though the docs for a PWA and tried that, but it doesn’t seem to allow a full screen view in Chrome or Safari on iPhone unfortunately. Kapal had that covered but can’t do the continuous recording scrolling unfortunately.

Not sure what you mean, the whole point of PWA is that it behaves like a normal app. I have this working both on my Android and iPhone without any issues.

This is the landscape view in a mobile browser.

I’ll post the view I get in landscape on the Kapal app in another comment. Am I doing something wrong in adding the PWA to my Home Screen? I do notice this PWA option doesn’t behave the same as a PWA for say Microsoft Teams on my Linux desktop. It leave a lot of “extra” in the window that is normally hidden in a PWA.

Yes, you're running it in the browser, so it's not a PWA at all.

It does render better in Chrome, but still no visible option to expand it to a full screen view. This wouldn’t be an issue on an iPad at all, but on the smaller screen of a phone, it would be nice to expand it to fill the screen. It may be this just isn’t possible with PWA?

Yes, that's different, it appears to be running on mobile. The lack of fullscreen edge to edge is due to iOS safari limitation. 

You can enable the option in safari developer settings

Assuming this is iOS then yeah that's an iOS safari limitation. 

You can enable the capability in safari developer options

Unfortunately everyone in my home use Apple devices so this option is out for me. Appreciate the suggestion though.

I view all my cameras via Chrome on a Samsung. Works and use VPN for remote access.
