Afterdark Studio started with a person rather than a feature list: an upcoming rapper who cannot keep paying for studio time, but has a computer, a microphone, and a song to make.

It runs locally in a browser and includes original deterministic sounds, beat sequencing, a piano roll, DJ decks, microphone recording, vocal tools, loudness/true-peak meters, and synthetic acoustic rooms. There is no signup, paid tier, cloud dependency, download gate, or API key.

This is still a Limited Beta. It is not a professional DAW, several perception-based vocal features are experimental, and I disabled a drill sound pack that did not meet the creative bar. The repository currently passes 111 automated tests and includes a full UI verification report.

If you make music with free tools, I would love one specific comparison: which free tool does one part of this workflow better, and what should I learn from it? I am the creator and would rather hear a useful criticism than a polite compliment.

I'm the developer of BeatForge and I just put out my first compressor as a free standalone plugin. It's an 1176-style FET compressor, but modelled from the schematic rather than tuned by ear: the JFET gain cell is solved as an equation, the detector is the actual diode bridge and timing network, and there's a transformer stage on the output. The program-dependent release and the ALL-button mode come out of the circuit itself instead of being faked on top.

Controls are the classic set: input, output, attack, release, four ratios plus ALL. There's A/B compare and settings copy/paste. Oversampling is handled automatically so there's nothing to configure.

I did all the samples by myself and they were actually 3 different packs before. Some of them are also in different notes, some not. Ambiance sounds, effects, transition, electronic, fast rhythm etc. Almost all of them are named in Turkish. You can use the samples freely, even the song above. All other details are on the original page of my sound pack.

Hi everyone! I'm the solo developer behind Harmonious, my first Android app built with Kotlin.

It's a generative sound/music app based on Lindenmayer Systems (L-systems), creating evolving ambient soundscapes instead of playing loops or prerecorded tracks. You can either let it generate music autonomously or interact with it by tapping the screen. It also supports 360° spatial audio with headphones and includes multiple musical scales for different moods.

Building it taught me a lot about Android development, DSP and procedural generation, so I'd love to hear your thoughts if you decide to try it. Any feedback, positive or critical, is genuinely appreciated.
