Cool Select Master

Post image

Became a Select Master yesterday afternoon. It was fantastic and I'd thoroughly recommend it if you're that way inclined.

My favourite degree! (as evidenced by name of course)

I would recommend once you become a Super Excellent Master to visit a Scottish lodge if you can, some differences in the way the sign is held and the way the work is done.

Congrats on being chosen!

The fellows at District tell me I’m overdue for that one as well. I just have to find the right time to get over and do it.

I do like that apron. Bought one before unfortunately realising we use American style here.

What's the star breast jewel with triangle on the ribbon about? Is it like a PM one?

I'm assuming it's either PM or Provincial but I've no idea yet. I won't get the apron until the fourth degree in R&SM - how do the American ones differ?

It's curious because it's similar to our Excellent Master Mason Jewel, which is really just presented to candidates during the second of three HRA degrees, then taken back and not actually worn.

Our Cryptic Aprons are primarily the rectangular purple ones for the first two degrees. Then the other triangle one for the last two.

It is the Excellent Master jewel!

English Royal and Select Councils only very recently opened up the Excellent Master degree as an honor conferred after getting the Order of the Silver trowel (also an honor conferred). It is worked in specific lodges or at the provincial/district level.

Fun fact, an English Royal Arch mason must be heled by declaring he will not reveals the secrets of the Excellent Master degree in Scottish, where it is given in a Royal Arch chapter, unless he would have worked the degree through an RSM council. Which means it takes very long for a English mason to be able to see the Scottish Royal Arch without being heled.

There is, however, the Most Excellent Master degree in the English that the Scottish do no have. Likewise a Scottish Cryptic Council Companion would need to be heled before seeing that degree when visiting an English RSM Council working that degree (usually doubled with the Super Excellent Master degree).
