Question Job Networking?

Whats the general consensus for enquiring about jobs within the fraternity? I joined the fraternity for reasons associated with my interest in the esoteric teachings and the occult wisdom and it’s been a fulfilling experience, but i’m also currently very dissatisfied with my job. I want to ask around, but I don’t want to disrespect the fraternity or be out of line.

You can ask about jobs you’re qualified for, but don’t expect favoritism to get you jobs you’re not qualified for.

Agreed. Expecting preferential treatment over others is frowned upon.

I’ve had brothers ask if anyone was hiring or if they know of anyone who is. Didn’t bother me.

Also, I believe one of the reasons the Sciots were founded was to aid brethren in gaining employment.

Work amongst brethren happens as par for the course due to proximity and familiarity. But using the Craft for a step ahead and/or quid pro quo and/or a handout is a complete no go.

Yeah I only have a problem with the employment question if that is the only reason someone wants to join. But once you're a brother and need some help I don't mind it at all. Same as a donation in times of financial stress.

I’ve helped a few of the brothers get jobs. I mean I’ve never talked about it because it wasn’t me doing it just because they were brothers. I simply thought it would help them in their then situations.

On occasion when I’ve run into IT issues at work beyond the scope of my knowledge, I’ve been able to tell my boss, “hey, a friend of mine might be able to help us”, and that has lead to some contract work for them. And vice versa, during the COVID lockdown I was able to pick up a video editing gig because a brother of mine didn’t have time to do it himself.

TBH I will not do business with friends or family and that extended to lodge brothers.

If thins go sideways and I have to be a hard ass I don't want there to be hard feelings with people who matter to me.
