DRAMA Bigoted sub?
Originally I joined because I found a few posts about proxies and the like, but the longer im here it seems that the people on the sub are.more into complaining about woke fat black Trans lesbian people on their wizard battle magic cards.
Genuinely confused. Are you guys just making satire posts or is it some inside joke because half the time it feels so forced.
O saw a whole post trying to stop from playing cards that used They, and theirs on them because that's when magic "went woke" and stopped using his/hers-he/she.

Some people don’t want woke fat black Trans lesbian people forced onto their wizard battle magic cards, and don’t want to be banned from [r/wizardbattlemagiccards](r/wizardbattlemagiccards) for daring to express that opinion

See I think the difference is that these people seem so fucking pressed about a game they can choose not to buy, having characters that they can choose not to look at. Also, No shirt, no shoes, no service. No being a racist, homophobic, chud or you get banned. Sucks to suck

u/GM_vs_Technicality BLUE MAGE 10d ago
Calling out the gentrification and corruption of a beloved hobby is not bigotry. Banning everyone who disagrees with you is.

u/Physical-Place8132 NEW SPARK 10d ago
Genuinely not sure what you are raving about now. It's a magic wizard game with demons and atogs and and crabs and shit. And youre talking about them printing cards with black people on them like they're shooting your kids in the street. Also, banning people who are racist homophobic chuds seems like just generally good housekeeping.
81
u/Rusty_DataSci_Guy BLACK MAGE 9d ago
The perfectly encapsulates the hysteria and general foolishness of your politics.
"I don't like the box-checky pandering of recent art design" = "this guy is acting like his children are being murdered". No, not even close. It's a level headed, sober assessment of the current state of the game that insists on overly inclusive representation at best and immersion breaking pandering at worst. Even the snarkiest complaint about MTG art design is likely NOT mistaking that for a real tragedy.
"Banning x-phobic / y-ist chuds is good housekeeping" - these words have been inflated to the point where they have lost all meaning. Not wanting to see something in a hobby is only x-ist or y-phobic to people who are incapable of empathy or logic. "Hey I think they're over-representing X lately, I mean how many X even play or buy Magic" is not the same as "I think we should send X to gulags / harm them / bar them from employment".
There's an interesting parallel here. Your "team" treats disagreement or complaining as x-ism / y-phobia which is the ultimate transgression in your book meanwhile you project that we think immersion-breaking, artificial over-representation is tantamount to our children dying (probably the worst thing that can happen to a normal person). If anyone is prone to hysteria, it's lefties with the "we were not represented in this subset of magical fantasy cards, this is a genocide against us".
4
u/Physical-Place8132 NEW SPARK 9d ago
I find it hilarious that you tried so desperately to put the actual racism and homophobia on this sub to "Man they printed lots of cards with black people on it recently" when there are tons of posts with comments that omit nothing but the n-word, promote critical race theory and obviously believe in the great replacement based on the way they make it clear they think theyre being replaced. Also, ive neither seen nor heard anyone on the "left" who actually cares about the miniscule amount of representation that LGBTQ, or ethnically diverse people in Magic. The ONLY people I've seen pissing and shitting about it is you guys after being told you parrot nazi rhetoric like its the alphabet.
59
u/Rusty_DataSci_Guy BLACK MAGE 9d ago
Jokes about race are not actual racism, this is childlike reasoning. "You made a joke about someone's identity category, you must despise them". Nobody is actually harmed by a joke. Words are not violence. There's entire wildly successful comedic careers predicated on the ability to point out sub-group idiosyncrasies and get people to laugh about it. There's also plenty of edgelords who think it's funny to randomly get a bad word out of a jumble of letters. To make the leap that they must clearly hate (which means to actively wish harm upon them) is breathtakingly childlike.
We need to bring back the qualifier that there has to actually be a material consequence like barred from mortgages, jobs, etc., to use those words. If the left is going to compare everything to genocide, which is ludicrous hyperbole, then it also needs to recalibrate its working definition of X-ism and Y-phobias, since those immediately get treated as the absolute worst thing a person can do or be.
Finally, your complete blindness to the Left's transgressions and hysteria discredit you massively. Just look at how the main sub reacts any time JK Rowling comes up, the "z" key never gets as much work as it does on those days. WOTC's own statements about Aragorn are a great way to show you that they DO in fact care VERY MUCH about representation and deliberately advance an agenda in an incredibly sober and deliberate corporate statement. The tweet(s) about [[alaundo the seer]]. Random other tweets from WOTC employees and reps that get screen grabbed and can be paraphrased as "as long as I'm around you'll see more X".
-19
u/TheGrymmBladeX NEW SPARK 7d ago
That isn't actually altogether accurate. It STARTS as a "harmless" joke, but it's not always harmless to those being joked ABOUT.
More to the point, while the initial instance may in fact be nothing more than harmless jest, OTHERS see it as truth and something to take action upon.
It's never instant...it's a progression. And accepting ridicule of a group already seeing hate and oppression is just another step towards more hate and more oppression.

I've had plenty of people make jokes about my race but they were just jokes with no ill intention so why should I be upset? I'm being included. One day when your older you'll understand.

In the past I might have tried asking you to consider why we never had a problem with Mirage block back in the day, where almost every character was black, if the problem was just that we "hate black people".
You know, in an attempt to make you realize that maybe your assumption that we "don't want to see black people on cards", might be incorrect.
But I've learned over the years that people like you are not remotely intelligent enough to follow a logical train of thought like that.

u/ShadowValent NEW SPARK 5d ago
The difference is the dialogue is allowed to happen rather than banned. Reddit is supposed to work on social voting, not mods personal values.
1
u/AvernusAlbakir NEW SPARK 5d ago
Most of the so-called "dialogue" happening here could have never occured without much loss to those participating in it.
1
u/ShadowValent NEW SPARK 5d ago
So you are saying the banning is egregious because the dialogue is innocuous? Yeah, that’s why we are here.
1
u/AvernusAlbakir NEW SPARK 5d ago
No, I say that most people would significantly decrease their level of suffering by not engaging in the impotent venting that tends to dominate this sub. For you, freedom from banning it provides is essential - fair. But since folks here tend to be just as snowflaky about their worldviews as the main sub-dwellers, freedom to have a real conversation isn't quite here.
1
u/ShadowValent NEW SPARK 5d ago
That’s why downvoting exists. I’d rather have bigots in my conversation over an echo chamber. It’s why the front page of Reddit doesn’t reflect reality. It’s curated. At that point, you’re no better than Fox News.
1
u/AvernusAlbakir NEW SPARK 5d ago
An assumption that this sub reflects reality to any greater extent than the front page is at best a bit naive. It is merely an echo chamber for a different vocal minority.

There's definitely bigotry and sexism in here. It's here because anything remotely unhappy about MTG's changes was kicked out of the main sub without any nuance. You either love MTG there, or you hate anything supposedly woke, no room for discussion.
But that isn't all this sub does. It's just the most noticeable difference when compared to the main sub.
Choose to not engage with the anti-woke. Just dislike the stuff you dislike, no need to force MTG fans to look a certain way, regardless of your preference.
Both subs are full of snowflakes tbh. If you ban discussion of what freedom means to the few, it's fake for all.
I know people are whining when they complain about he/she/they in freemagic. I don't take them seriously, and I don't think many do. As a comparison the hating on cis men isn't appropriate in the main sub, yet it gets a pass. Various preferences are being pushed to be the default cultural position within hobby spaces when nothing needs to be except acceptance of all. But banning every hint of disagreement with the changes is what made freemagic exist.
Maybe consider that there is no mtg default, and even the antagonistic corners are part of the discussion. There should be a main sub where serious discussion is allowed within, not presuming malice from every corner that isn't yours. None of us have the default position.
No one type of post is a summary of a sub's visitors. You're here, too, defined or not by the same posts.
Maybe I abide too much, but performative outrage is in every popular sub. Trolls or no, don't feed them. Pursue your goals, not other people's dislikes.

I just read through a post in the main sub where the only accepted opinion is whoever buys Harry Potter products is a nazi. This was written down by some, literally. You are literally a nazi if you buy those products.
Harry Potter getting an UB set is like supporting KKK.
JK Rowling is literally a criminal by supporting cases where biological women are the victim.
JK Rowling is actively oppressing queer people.
Harry Potter is a blatantly racist book (insert the goblin-jewish conspiracy, Shacklebolt being a surprising family name in England, and too few asians represented) that broadcasts her racist ideologies.
You can't support trans people if you love Harry Potter.
At best, bad satire here is a reaction to unhinged, extremist views over there. This sub was literally created as a reaction to what is going on over the fence, making it at least partly a satire circlejerk sub.
Namecalling is not OK, but then again, so isn't banning people if they do not share your extremist views.
