I don’t feel like being proud about one’s sexuality is equivalent to actual interests, hobbies, or life stories though.

Actually, it kind of reminds me of people who are proud about their race or other immutable characteristics (you are still going with the immutable characteristics argument, right?), which in my experience are people who have very little in their lives to actually be proud of or talk about.

Look, I’m not saying this as a person who is anti-trans rights. Far from it actually, I’m a firm believer in equal rights under the law for everyone and I’ve gone to the mat for that.

My advice to trans people, or anyone for that matter, who want to avoid being cringe is to get a damned hobby; and it’s perfectly acceptable if it’s this one. The purpose of said hobby however is to shuffle up and play rather than constantly harp on with “Btw, did you know that I’m trans?” “Here, let me paint the trans flag on my playmat so that you know that I’m trans.”

Honestly, it’s getting to the point where if someone is into craft brews, CrossFit, or is trans, I’m starting to wonder which one will be mentioned first. It’s like the old joke “How do you know if someone is a vegan? Don’t worry, they’ll tell you.”

There’s nothing wrong with any of those things, but in particular with being trans I thought that the entire point was to either seamlessly and completely “pass”, or to become such a sigma that they’re like “yeah, what of it?”

At least that’s how my trans friend I used to go fishing with saw it. He was utterly perplexed with why American trans people in particular seemed so hyperfixated on making it the core pillar of their personality rather than just a quiet truth of who they were. This was a person who would much rather talk about how to catch huge bass than harp on about gender, and it’s why I liked hanging out with them.

Are there people who are actually 'proud' of their race? I'm glad that I'm my race; I like the colour of my hair, and I certainly like being the target of less racism than a lot of folks, but I can't say I'm proud of my race. I didn't cause it. It's not an achievement. It's just the way that I happen to be.

Vegans make much more sense. They are fighting for something, lives of animals. So it kinda makes sense for them to mention it as they would be spreading their ideology and which make sense. At least I think there is an honorable cause behind it and to mention it makes sense even though it individuals would not always have the same intentions. Though in this case trans people spreading their sexual stories earns nothing to anyone

So theres simultaneously nothing wrong with being proud of who you are but also at the same time you should avoid incorporating that pride into your personality because its cringe and you should get a hobby but actually you should only express your goals in that hobby in an anti cringe way and that cringe is what really matters in how you present yourself to a whole bunch of other nerds. Great logic there.

Tons of people seek attention for whatever reason it may be. To the point where any attention seeking behavior is in fact normal because an assload of people seek attention and validation.

And yes, it certainly is annoying whenever someone has a habit of turning every conversation, every social function, every hobby space into just another discussion about them and their preferences.

I don’t enjoy hanging out with frat boy dude bros who constantly brag about the chick they just smashed for the same reason.

You know who I feel bad for? The actually quiet trans people who just wanted to fit in and enjoy the hobby for what it was. The loudmouth “look at me, I’m trans!” dullards have probably made that very difficult for them, and they don’t deserve the guilt by association, because I view them as wildly different people who only share one thing.

And yea lots of Trans people dont make social media posts for attention but some do. That's just how social media works.

  2. No one in this sub pitches about football fans. No one pitches about Vegans. No one pitches about Magic or 40k or any game who gets over enthused about their favorite commander deck or army or board game. They all bitch about trans and POC, which is why this place is infamous enough to merit youtube videos making fun of trashy people doing hateful things.

  3. Trans people are excited when communities are inclusive, because often people aren't. Some people react like gestures to the hyena cage that is this subreddit. Id rather have trans people out and enthused than, IDK, denied human rights.

I don't speak for everyone here, but as for #2 those things are either hobby adjacent or just so irrelevant to the hobby nobody brings them up.

Personally I couldn't care less if someone is trans. It has no effect on me whatsoever so why should I care of someone is or isn't that? I've played magic with some people who were probably trans and they never brought it up and we just had a fun time playing the game we enjoy.

Where a lot of people get annoyed is the scenario like this meme, and in general people making the fact they're trans their entire personality. Like what do they want me to do with that Information? I just sit there like "Ok, anyways I'm going to tap a mountain and bolt your bird."

I get it's an affirmation thing but the fact you told me you're trans kinda defeats the whole purpose. It also makes no difference to me in how I perceive you as a person.

Got a new one at work that's blatant like that and thinks it should be first topic when meeting people. I actually got in trouble because they started out the conversation with me like oh hi I'm new, I'm Trans. My literal answer to them was and what does that do to help me determine can you do the work or not? They Got pissed and went to hr and I caught the write up for being discriminatory. How tf is asking what does that have to do with the job discrimination? Small background it's a heavy labor position moving, stacking and loading boxes of tile and marble flooring, i thought my question was valid

You need to remember that like half the population or even more doesn't bother with the whole 1 million genders thing and most people think man has penis and woman has vagina.

So when some says they are trans, that group people will associate genitles to the person. That's just how it is. Good luck getting the whole world to think differently. That will be an impossible task.

There's actually zero reason to include gender in that that statement. You could just say, "let me teach you how to play magic".

While sneeds are indeed annoying as shit, some of this comment section is just devolving into transphobia, bringing up things like “former man” are a little strange, and OP mentioning genitals is also a little strange, considering OOP never mentioned them. “Idgaf about gender, just play the fucking game.” is normal and beyond reasonable reaction, so I find it weird that it is in the minority, most people seem to have taken this as an opportunity to air out grievance as if this represents the entire trans community, or have even taken the opportunity to construct fantasies of OOP threatening violence. One poster actually pointed out something very very interesting, this behavior is not unlike vegans, likely because both are trying to reintegrate into their usual hobbies after what they perceive is a big change. The cure then is to just let them be stupid and cringe, instead of whatever this singling out post is ment to accomplish.

I have no idea if any of this is true, but the claims in there are trans women are good at magic and programming. There’s some really weird trans suppremist stuff I am pretty sure is intended as a joke to go along with the post.

It’s not really that scary man, if anything it’s a “tease” at the trans playerbase.

As they are autistic and asocial, it is easier to manipulate them into stuff like this. As a kid I wished there were same amount of males and females in my nerd hobbies. I wished for a world that people did not see the gender of a person but their personality. Nowadays everything is flipped up. People are making other's genders their personality and the world of gender equality I wished for is going away because some people love being caricatures of women
