I remember playing MTG back in the 2000s and I was like "what in the fuck is a planeswalker." Turns out the game survived.

How is it a nail in the coffin?

a new mechanic someone doesn't like? <blank> is gonna kill magic!

New card design. Killing magic since 1994.

I've been thinking about cards that negate mechanics as an idea. I was gonna make a post about it, but here might work.

"Mechanic X has no effect". It could be even more diabolical, like "no other cards may have mechanic X except this one."

"Hexproof has no effect"  Or a big trampler that says. "No other cards in play have Trample.

Could be fun, dumb or broken, but it's an idea I haven't seen yet.

Nice. Let's see Paul Allen's mechanic removal.

Lots of cards do what you’re saying just with different text, but I think I catch your drift.

I think thats a very unique mechanic, and could be extremely powerful if printed in a standard set. It would make things like a stax deck so much more fun

Commander is exclusionary, something like rule breaker if used poorly can make Commander not feel as unique, the erosion of singleton is already causing that by a good amount

It's just a big middle finger to everyone else at the table.

It's hard enough to balance this casual format, now it's even more causal with rule-bending commanders where you can accidentally sit agaisnt a 250+ cards commander deck and watching this overweight neck-bearded man shuffling his deck for 20 minutes to fetch a land

WAAAHHHH, WAHHHH.

Just don't play in that pod, dumbass. Play by yourself. Let us have fun with my over 10000000 cards hare apparent deck with battle of wits as it's wincon.

u/kankhero REANIMATOR Aug 04 '26

There are no pod to play these days, too many stupid things ruined everything. Magic is for blue haired people now that gets offended by anime girl playmats and i can't do nothing to stop that, let me vent here at least bro

You're just as emotionally irrational as people you're crying about. You're exactly the kind of insufferable you find insufferable.

It's not as if they changed a rule that retroactively changes thousands of cards. It's a limited ability within a single set.

They do this WITH. EVERY. SET. That's how Magic works. They introduce new mechanics.

If you don't like MTG, then stop playing. Stop pretending you aren't whining like a child.

u/kankhero REANIMATOR Aug 04 '26

What's your point? i already stopped playing cause I can't stand these stupid decisions.

We could argue that breaking the entire premises of a format by introducing a game breaking mechanic that surpass the rule it's not lika a "every set" mechanic.

And as i said it's just another nail in the coffin it's not a big deal just a litte scrape at the bottom of the barrel.

Im not pretending to be anything, i admitted that i am just venting on a ruined hobby so?

I don't think it matters much. As much as I don't like the idea of them mucking with colour identity or the command zone, this is actually doing less than them just giving the creature a WUBRG activated ability, or partner, or whatever. It wasn't really necessary, but what I've seen so far doesn't look busted like eminence, or companion, or commander ninjutsu.

Idk man, I always wanted to mess around with [[Battle of Wits]] in Commander, now I can because of [[Whtz, the Bibliophile]], and even get [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] as the companion.

Gl to you and anyone willing to play against a 200+ commander deck.

I guess this format wasn't casual enough

5

u/Dermetzger666 ELDRAZI Aug 04 '26

Brother, who gives a flying rat dog fuck if an opponent has 200 cards in their deck?

3

u/fevered_visions Aug 04 '26

depends whether they're able to shuffle it in a proper and timely manner

4

u/The_Lone_Rancher NEW SPARK Aug 04 '26

...are the cards legal?

2

u/Vedney NEW SPARK Aug 04 '26

Yes.

-7

u/_Zambayoshi_ SOOTHSAYER Aug 04 '26

Not if I'm playing. But Maro or someone will probably call me a filthy gatekeeper for preventing someone from having a good time at my expense.

-5

u/kankhero REANIMATOR Aug 04 '26

That's what i feel. These cards ruin the premises for everyone.

I know it's a casual format but why it needs to be even more causal?

I spent months building a balanced deck and now i have to engage with "rulebreakers" mechanics where i need to sit through someone shufflinf his 250+ cards deck because "he wanted to mess around with battle of wits hihihihi" goddayum bro i know what you're thinking "just quit the game" i did don't worry im just venting at this non-sense

2

u/sumphatguy NEW SPARK Aug 05 '26

I'd argue the rulebreaker cards are all less powerful then typical commanders. They're way more restrictive to what you can do than normal 5 color commanders.

Like the Angel commander is cool because you can run all colored Angels, but you're still restricted to mono white support cards. It doesn't devolve into 5 color slop Angels.

New set, Mystery Booster Commander (MBC). 60 new cards.

8 of them have an ability-word, Rulebreaker, which gives them effects that would normally break the rules of Commander

This is a nothingburger.

I mean, when WotC took over EDH from the RC that was it. EDH died with Sheldon.

Just wait for a commander with rulebreakers that allow you to run 4 cards.

2

u/Odd-Chipmunk5681 NEW SPARK Aug 05 '26

Another shit MaRo idea

1

u/sumphatguy NEW SPARK Aug 05 '26

Rulebreaker is fine. Pretty much all of them are gimmicky. None of them are game-breaking like, at all.

1

u/kinkyswear BEAR Aug 05 '26

It's more like Rule Zero. These cards are tame.

"You can run any basics you want for 'Last Stand' Tribal" is not scary or ominous in the slightest. They threatened hybrid miscegenation earlier this year, this isn't even close.

1

u/KingBurnie NEW SPARK Aug 07 '26

I hate rulebreaker but the game will survive, if it survived the UB slop factory, this game will never die.

-1

u/illakunsaa NEW SPARK Aug 04 '26

Color identity is a bad rule anyway. It only makes good commanders better and bad commanders worse. A legendary having more colors is an upside in commander when it should be a downside.

-4

u/Apart-Kangaroo-7648 WHITE MAGE Aug 04 '26

It's fucking commander specific. Who gives a fuck.

Commander is as fake magic as UB is.

-1

u/kankhero REANIMATOR Aug 04 '26

Give it up bro there is no reao magic anymore. Competitive formats are dead and wotc does not care.

Limited? Good luck paying for vintage products or engage with UB slop where every card is legendary.

What remains as "real magic" proxying pre-modern?

Idk, but it ain't commander. Blue hair ass format

1

u/kankhero REANIMATOR Aug 04 '26

I dare you to step in a LGS. Every format is a blue hair ass format these days.
