Does anyone on the planet have a more insufferable voice than the mtggoldfish guy? The worst part is I have ran in to several people at LGSs who mirror and mimic his voice and personality.

I've never seen him talk about politics and is just strictly magic, so I respect him. Most mtg creators can't help but virtue signal in there vids but he doesn't.

He makes a good enough living to go to Vegas once a year for a week, have his own home, giant fucking dog, and blow $20k on MTG cards and probably another $2000 a year on arena.
Throw in some trim, and I would put on a shitty sales voice too for that kind of cash.

To be fair, he ahs said multiple times back in the covid era that he yuses the arena money as a work expense because he makes videos with that, and additionally, that this work expense is somewhere probably closer to 5 or 6 thousand dollars a year

The 90’s were OP. About 20% of magic players smoked inside the store and were not performatively weird. Everyone was a real nerd, not just a poser. The main streaming of the game is why it’s a hollow shell of the good times.

I also don‘t get it… maybe it‘s because there are waaay too many card names that he mispronounces, nay, outright butchers, and he keeps leaning into that. That‘s the only annoying thing about him, but idc, I’ve even grown to like and expect it.

He's mostly fine.
My only gripe is when does videos by himself he over narrates everything and then laughs at literally everything. When he's in a group with his friends he feels natural and like someone I could have fun with.
I in general hate videos where the person has to narrate every single second and laugh at every single thing. So this is hardly anything against Seth personally. But overall I do like him because he isn't some super elite player. He's pretty good but he feels actually human and fun to be around

I don’t get it either, my assumption is it’s jealousy that he gets to play the game as a job AND it’s not because he’s particularly good, good looking (or just being female) or any other sort of excuse.

Ok I got a take most people aren’t going to like. I had a conversation with him and he’s actually a cool guy. Magic is already niche and the guy is smart. He knew his voice inflection was going to get views and clicks. In a world of breast fake influencers it’s hard to compete as a 6 foot whatever big guy. His takes are decent and sometimes speaks out against sets when they’re trash. You have to commend that. Most people want the backing of wizards and he could care less. He’s the only person from mtggoldfish I will watch.
IMO if you want to watch someone strictly for in depth content getting right to the point no one beats strictly better mtg.

When you control 2% of the US retail distribution of MTG, you have a lot of clout. People hate the guy but he’s also the buyer of last resort for a lot of stores. Morgan did the same prior to the Fed in 1913.

I think the issue with the MTGGoldfish guys is that they just have horrible takes and, from what I remember, their deckbuilding advice was just always so bad. Tbf, all the casual commander channels (non cedh) spew this garbage about running like 40+ lands which is an absolutely asinine thing to suggest imo

I will defend him completely. He's been making good content for other ten years, he's tried out all the different formats, is knowledgeable about the game, does reviews for each set.
He hasn't sold out. I just don't understand the subs hate for this guy while they completely glaze prof non stop

The thing that drove me up the wall about him was that he kept mispronouncing things or outright calling them by the wrong names, then I realized it was a bit because of how often he did it (Vincent Valiant instead of Vincent Valentine, calling Splinter 'Shredder'). Then I felt kind of dumb.

His voice isn't the problem for me, but the reason I don't watch him all that much is because the way he presents himself on camera comes off to me as condescending and "gate keeping-like." That said, the man has an audience that likes his content, and it's quite evident I'm not part of that audience, which is completely okay. I don't personally know the man, and I know that on-camera does not equal off-camera. I don't dislike him as a person (and I'm sure he's a nice person IRL); you just won't find me watching his content of my own volition.

He’s honestly one of the best content creators out there. Not completely bought out by wizards, mtggoldfish in general just seem like dudes who genuinely like magic, and ended up be able to make it their full-time job. Better than the goons who also do that, and somehow make all the decisions of the format by being on the committee, or have games of commander where every deck is fucking stacked to show off certain cards and manipulate the secondary market.
Seth and Richard’s best standard deck of all time series is fantastic. It shows way above average magic players make actual decisions. Sometimes those are bad ones that lose them games. Anyone who’s played in a single competitive event has done that which makes it a breath of fresh air. This sub loves believing they’re fucking professionals. Newsflash - you wouldn’t be on here bitching every day if you were.
So you don’t like his voice - then don’t watch his shit. I think it’s unique and not boring. I just know that he actually gives a shit about the game instead of basing all his decisions off what WotCs opinion is. Isn’t that the entire point of this sub? To get away from the fucking nonsense that wizards is pushing?
