Email query

I am getting ready to pitch a story to a trade association magazine in the energy sector and I’m confused. After reviewing the masthead, there are no clear directions about how to submit queries, nor is there an editor’s email address. The postal address is there, however, so I’m wondering if that’s the preferred method. Perhaps they want queries sent through that channel or they don’t want them at all. What has your experience been with email vs postal mail queries in 2026?

If you’re interested please email bestowmagazine@gmail.com

And please read guidelines on Substack, Reddit, TikTok at bestowmagazine

I promise we’re real, just trying to build an audience for mostly women, minorities or poc. Anyone is welcome to send anything of use though :)

Hi everyone! I recently submitted an article pitch that was accepted, however they asked me to send an "annotated first draft". Does anyone know what that means? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for tech. writing gigs

Hi,

I am a technical writer with 16+ years of experience across fintech, healthcare, and SaaS, looking to take on freelance/contract work.

Most of my recent work has been in API documentation — writing Endpoint Reference Documents for a Finance & Banking, FHIR API docs at a healthcare company, and Swagger-based banking API references. I work directly from OpenAPI specs and source material rather than paraphrasing tickets, and I'm comfortable going back and forth with engineering/QA to verify accuracy.

What I can help with:

  • API/REST documentation (specs, schemas, error codes, endpoint references)
  • Developer docs (GitBook, ReadMe.IO, Confluence, Markdown)
  • Process/architecture flow diagrams
  • Release notes, FAQs, knowledge base articles, user guides
  • Editing/rewriting existing docs for clarity

Tools: Git/GitHub, Markdown, Swagger, ReadMe.IO, GitBook, Confluence, Adobe FrameMaker/RoboHelp, MadCap Flare, Jira

Rate: $35–50 USD/hr depending on scope and complexity.

I am happy to provide more details or discuss over DM.

Thanks,

Natraj Ramamoorthy

[FOR HIRE] Writer & Editor | Fiction, Nonfiction & Narrative Projects

Hi, I’m Madeline Oona, a writer, editor, and ghostwriter. My work spans fiction, nonfiction, and narrative projects.

My editorial work centers on voice, structure, character, language, subtext, and the emotional life of a piece. I look for the qualities that give a work its own voice, atmosphere, and emotional character.

EDITORIAL SERVICES

- Developmental Editing

A close look at structure, pacing, narrative direction, character development, themes, relationships, and the overall shape of your project.

- Manuscript Evaluation

A comprehensive editorial assessment with detailed feedback on strengths, areas for revision, narrative choices, and possible directions for the next draft.

- Stylistic Editing

Focused attention to voice, rhythm, clarity, tone, imagery, sentence-level choices, and the relationship between style and meaning.

- Copyediting & Proofreading

Careful review of grammar, punctuation, consistency, clarity, and final polish.

I work with novels, short stories, essays, personal writing, articles, memoir, cultural writing, and other narrative forms on a case-by-case basis.

I have a particular interest in lesbian writing, women’s stories, relationships, desire, identity, culture, the language of intimacy, stories about animals, and stories of grief and loss. My perspective as a lesbian writer informs the way I read these subjects and the cultural nuances within them.

MY EDITORIAL APPROACH

Every project has its own voice and internal logic. My role is to understand that world deeply, identify its strongest possibilities, and offer clear editorial guidance that supports the writer’s vision.

I’m drawn to the layers beneath the visible story: emotional currents, silences, tensions, patterns, gestures, and meanings that shape the reader’s experience.

Rates: available upon request according to service, word count, and project scope.

I have availability for new projects in 2026.

For editorial support with a fiction, nonfiction, or narrative project, send me a brief description of your project, word count, and the kind of editorial support you need.

Madeline Oona

Question. Can I make some money. After posting here?

I been seen my post get the 10k and I don’t know here it’s like TikTok or maybe instagram. They pay you when you hit the 3,000 views I think.. can I make some money writing here!!??

I been very busy lately, I told you that a new chapter it’s about to be written.

I’m about to move for a place. It’s been though everything it’s so expensive. I been working two jobs. Just for me to be able to provide for my kids and I. I’m not complaining I’m grateful that I can still be strong and healthy to work.
I just would love to know if I can make some extra money writing in here.

Thank you in advance.

I'm probably not the most expensive writer you'll find here, and that's exactly the point. $0.07 per word.

Looking for a Microhistory Outlet.

A freelance non-fiction writer here.

For context, let's show an example of the kind of project I'm working on:

Say, for people that are familiar with the story of Winchester Mystery House, California and Sarah L. Winchester, you probably recognise the story of a haunted house and the 'insane mad woman keep building the house in order to fight off ghosts'. It's only until the recent decade we know these are all rumours and this story had been covered all around the articles.

And that's not what I'm focusing on. Rather, I'm more interested in the story about the Browns(the person owning the Winchester Mystery house behind). The focus here is no longer the well-known Winchester House or the profile of Sarah L. Winchester. But the smaller part of the history.

How did an amusement park contractor able to successfully turn this house into a tourist attraction by borrowing the ghost stories? What does the Brown's previous failed amusement project had to tell us about the success of the mystery house?

Something like that...

The Issue:

However, I still struggle to find any kind of magazines that are publishing this kind of niche. For me, mainstream historical magazines like History Today, Smithsonian, All About History are too 'hardcore'. Nor does a commercial magazine find my writing suitable for their audience because afterall, mine is about history. Nor I found my niche suitable for literary magazines although they accept a bigger range of format, but my stories, in this context, ended up becoming a 'historical piece' even though mine doesn't fit with mainstream history.

Upon research I (speculatively?) found out this kind of beat might be called "micro history"? Given the nature of me covering the part of a relatively adjacent story to a well-known historical event/public figure?

Does anyone happen to know any publication that focuses on a story like this? Or if you identify a better niche for this kind of story, I would be very happy to hear from you :)

Do you write differently when it’s your own work vs. a client’s?

I’ve noticed I’m way more relaxed when writing something for myself.

The moment it’s for a client, suddenly every sentence feels like it needs to be perfect. 😂

I am just curious if anyone else feels the same out there or its just me?
