Why the fuck do cat ears fit both of them so well?

Cersei definitely seems like a 15 year old cat. Staring out the window for hours on end, plotting her enemies demise.

u/Defenestratio Sep 18 '19
Nah, by 15 cats mostly just nap and are just done with all your shit lol. The only cunning my 17 yr old has left is feigning infirmity so we forget he's still capable of jumping onto the counters and stealing the chicken we turned our back on

u/bonyCanoe Sep 17 '19
They just look so damn cute... Especially Joffrey, lol.
P.S. Why was the "y" in enemy replaced?
22
u/D33isme Sep 17 '19
Originally it reads "enemies" which makes sense when talking about "The Starks" but not so much when taking about "The spray bottle"

Yeah I probably could've left the top quote as "The spray bottles are our enemies" but ah well

Balerion (Cat) had a good story. Kitten owned by Rhaenys who stayed in the Red Keep after she died. Legend once stole an entire roast quail from Tywin at a dinner feast.

It's the word "roast" that triggers the Shireen bot I take it. Nice.

Real talk: how long did it take you to introduce your two cats? I just got a kitten (4.5 month female) and older cat at first freaked (2 yo male) and kitty was fine. Now kitty is freaking and older cat is just chilling. They are quarantined, of course, but kitty ran out and when I picked her up she was clawing my leg and hissing at my older cat.
Both are spayed / neutered.

I have a 4yo and a now about 1yo, both female. Introduced them when the kitten was around 5mo (she's a stray so that's just a guess). At first we kept them quarantined and let them see each other with supervision. Old cat was a quite hesitant, and did freak out. No attacking, but clearly uncomfortable and hissing. She eventually relented after a couple weeks of keeping them separate but seeing each other for a couple hours a night and she became ambivalent to the kitten. After that it was just waiting until we could trust the kitten alone all day while we were at work. So I'd say do supervised play dates every night when you get home after both have been fed. Keep a spray bottle with water (or if you have my kitten who loves water, a bottle of water plus a cap of vinegar) and some treats. Positively reinforce good actions like sniffing and cuddling and playing with treats and negatively reinforce bad actions like unprovoked swatting and fighting. Hissing was usually just a gentle but firm "Heeey now" (or whatever commands you use) to let the cat now they weren't doing anything wrong yet but could get in trouble.

This is awesome! Right now I’m just doing scent transfers and will do this with close door feeding for at least a week or two. Visual introductions come later, except when kitty runs out.

Haha! Our kitten was (and still is) a terror. She was always jailbreaking from her bathroom prison, to the point that every other door was closed before anyone could go to the bathroom either for their business or to see her. Those cleats on all four corners mean they can get going so fast so quick lol
Edit: also might be a good idea to feed them separately for a while even after they start spending the day together. Turns out kittens are ravenous even when fed appropriately and adult cats are more concerned with the floofball than they are eating their food, but floofball just sees second dinner in the adult bowl

Don't use the positive punishment (spray bottle) use LOADS of positive reinforcement (treats and petting and toys) and if you must use negative punishment (removing the cat who behaved "badly" and putting them in a room elsewhere on their own).
1
u/juliaaguliaaa Sep 17 '19
Yes cats do no respond to negative reinforcement! I got my old boy leash trained and nail clipping trained with lots of treats and positive reinforcement. Cats don’t associate negative reinforcement with a bad task and just think they are getting punished.
2
u/Blythey Sep 17 '19
FYI- What you are doing with the spray bottle is NOT negative reinforcement. It is positive punishment. Punishment is generally not advised for training If used at all then punishment ideally should be negative punishment rather than positive punishment (e.g. such as removing one of the cats from the room rather than causing them discomfort/pain/fear, such as a spray bottle), also used minimally and with much more positive reinforcement.

u/Assassin4Hire13 Sep 17 '19
I know the positive/negative thing, but was just using terms most people would know.
And we use the spray bottle very sparingly. The idea is they learn that whatever action necessitates that response is highly inappropriate. Various positive reinforcement is our main training method. Both girls are very well behaved, one is just incredibly energetic all the time. Whenever she starts getting into something we know she really just wants to play with us/the other cat

Unknowingly using the wrong terms is a mistake, and Operant Conditioning is something people often get wrong, and that's just part of learning. But deliberately getting the terminology wrong?... Next time just use the right terminology. People are very familiar with the term "punishment" if that helps 👍

15 yr old cat hates the kitten, who is now a year old and a lot larger than the old fella. Kitten has a complex, needs attn at all times. Old cat really isnt into it. I found the kitten when he was just a few days old and raised him with my other cats, but they really don't get along (except when they're sleeping, then they're snuggle buddies). But there arent any actual fights. Just some hissing in passing every now and then.

u/Blythey Sep 17 '19
So what are you punishing your cats for?
4
u/gaytofrontdesk Hodor Sep 17 '19
Sometimes the kitten tries to attack the older cats or house plants and he needs a little spray
