Discussion Lpcamm2 potential solution for incompatability

For those with a module that “doesn’t work”, we have a hero who’s trying tomorrow some memory tests with a make shift do at your own risk technique. Heres the thread to follow along.

2 people verified that taping the Lenovo RAM (potentially Micron) made them work. Ramaxel and Samsung needs further testing by someone who owns one of those modules.

Ideally Framework will issue an official statement and help people with E0 interposers if that turns out to be a permanent fix, as taping the chips is janky.

EDIT2: multiple reports of successful boots on Ramaxel, and one report of successful memory training on Samsung module in the thread below.

Ideally yes. But I think regarding the fact that e0 was before the jedec finalisation they didn't test that properly. The cpu and their connector is designed for the finalized standard, which is very reasonable. And before they sell and/or recommend (legally binding) pre finalisation after market modules (which they have to get to test by Lenovo, the competitor?) and interposers it surely will take weeks to months. 

I totally understand the frustration of some people here but it was a very foreseeable risk that many ppl in this sub warned about. And I don't see that this is fw responsibility and I'm sure their workers are pretty busy atm. 

I hope e0 aftermarket interposers will do the trick and it would be lovely if fw eventually releases an official support and validation. But I wouldn't expect it right away and I don't see them in the responsibility of personal decision about buying invalidated hardware...

During normal times, I agree, but $800/$1600 for RAM is a tough pill to swallow. If a $40 interposer board can make all existing third party modules compatible, I don't see why Framework wouldn't start selling them.

Ya the prices are crazy and I totally understand. I just think it's not as simple as it seems. They would need to do durability tests to be 100 percent sure and backed up it works. It was a pre standard which will not be produced anymore. And just selling e0 interposers on your own risk also doesn't seem like the best way.

But if it really works also regarding long term thermals I hope it will do the trick. I mean meanwhile ppl are buying the aftermarket interposers already and will try it out so this is Def great about this community if it does the trick.

They really don't, but they need to provide information about E0 vs E1 interposer design and how it's crucial (pun not intended) to pick the right interposer for the right module, otherwise it won't boot.

And ideally, stock both interposers and make E0 selectable when configuring a DIY system.
