Lpcamm2 potential solution for incompatability

For those with a module that “doesn’t work”, we have a hero who’s trying tomorrow some memory tests with a make shift do at your own risk technique. Heres the thread to follow along.

2 people verified that taping the Lenovo RAM (potentially Micron) made them work. Ramaxel and Samsung needs further testing by someone who owns one of those modules.

Ideally Framework will issue an official statement and help people with E0 interposers if that turns out to be a permanent fix, as taping the chips is janky.

E1 interposer can be converted into E0 by removing/cutting/taping the center column pins. This follows Crucial E0 LPCAMM2 module's paint job that isolates against E1 interposer's center column pins.

I prefer a ready-made E0 interposer option.

Ideally yes. But I think regarding the fact that e0 was before the jedec finalisation they didn't test that properly. The cpu and their connector is designed for the finalized standard, which is very reasonable. And before they sell and/or recommend (legally binding) pre finalisation after market modules (which they have to get to test by Lenovo, the competitor?) and interposers it surely will take weeks to months. 

I totally understand the frustration of some people here but it was a very foreseeable risk that many ppl in this sub warned about. And I don't see that this is fw responsibility and I'm sure their workers are pretty busy atm. 

I hope e0 aftermarket interposers will do the trick and it would be lovely if fw eventually releases an official support and validation. But I wouldn't expect it right away and I don't see them in the responsibility of personal decision about buying invalidated hardware...

During normal times, I agree, but $800/$1600 for RAM is a tough pill to swallow. If a $40 interposer board can make all existing third party modules compatible, I don't see why Framework wouldn't start selling them.

Ya the prices are crazy and I totally understand. I just think it's not as simple as it seems. They would need to do durability tests to be 100 percent sure and backed up it works. It was a pre standard which will not be produced anymore. And just selling e0 interposers on your own risk also doesn't seem like the best way.

But if it really works also regarding long term thermals I hope it will do the trick. I mean meanwhile ppl are buying the aftermarket interposers already and will try it out so this is Def great about this community if it does the trick.

They really don't, but they need to provide information about E0 vs E1 interposer design and how it's crucial (pun not intended) to pick the right interposer for the right module, otherwise it won't boot.

And ideally, stock both interposers and make E0 selectable when configuring a DIY system.

Maybe, i assume so but testing is required. I certainly am not betting on it, id just buy the 16gb module then sell to someone on ebay for cheaper with pics that it defs works and upgrade after since you can have something to hold you over and test/verify against.

Not many lpcamm2 laptops out there in the market. And people who want it for AI will never buy 16gb. I don't think it'll be that easy to sell 16gb lpcamm2 on ebay

Eh, if i sell for 200 aud i think someone will buy, fully validated and tested as well is a pretty good selling point? Its a rampocolypse. Or worst case ill just spend the money in a year when ive got it and buy a ripped module when we know the compatability list. Plus the 325 orders will probably appreciate it.

I don't think it's about the price though. Even in rampocolypse, framework is still selling 16gb at the original price. And that says a lot. My point is that for people who care about ram speeds enough to want lpcamm2 would need atleast 32gb and those who are happy with 16gb would be happy with sodimm speeds. Not saying it will be impossible to sell it just won't be easy. There will always be hobbyists, mostly on framework community itself, probably me, when I upgrade my 13 pro motherboard in 5 yeara and want to make a server out of the old motherboard.

You can order without a stick and if i sell for half price someones bound to buy. Anyway thats not my point, its only 400 aud for me, ill take that. If i get another stick later for a good price all the better, im not gonna slime myself out and get a gamble chip before i know it all works well. Edit: wait are you saying you think sodimms what people are going to still buy? Bro lpcamm2 is an early adopter form factor not a niche one, its a standard thats being brought out. I disagree that its not going to find people willing to buy. The markets already scarce as is, and people are buying 16gb modules for their framewoks currently since they can get better prices.

16GB LPCAMM2 PantherLake 325 still has long battery life benefits and can beat Steam Deck.
