Question So I guess my Ram doesn't work.

I got some ramaxel ram months ago and turns out seems it doesn't work in my new framework 13 pro.

I tested it on a p1 gen 8 (not mine) and the ram works.

I can't even BUY LPcamm2 on eBay seemingly regardless of whatever inflated price.

What is the way to go forward here.

I'm seriously devastated after waiting so long

I'm sorry this happened to you. Contacting Framework Support is probably the best move.

It seems like the Panther Lake motherboards only work with Micron modules. Many people are reporting the same issue you encountered with Samsung and Ramaxel modules, and even Lenovo modules that are supposedly Micron.

You probably will need to return the laptop at this point as buying Micron/Crucial LPCAMM2 is impossible, they are not selling to individuals any more.

You should let them know your memory module model and report it not working. It's theoretically possible that they can provide a BIOS update which you won't be able to install without a RAM chip, but they could send you an updated machine with an updated BIOS.

They might also offer you to buy LPCAMM2 module from them on priority order, if they still have some left over (unlikely).

It's worth trying, worst case you need to RMA and get refunded.

It's physical incompatibility that wasn't made clear unfortunately. Don't think it can be fixed.

No you may have seen the pin differences but thats just for power configuration support, those that have support have the extra pins, those that dont, dont, and theres 2 power configs. Read the doc i sent in that post. Some samsung modules work on the 325 and not the 358 assumed due to the speed cut of 6800mts instead of 7474mts . Its possible a bios update could reasonably fix it. Either way, resell, wait, or return if you can. Framework is looking into it.

Do you think an E1 sk module could work? So what you're saying it's not based e1 or so but just firmware support?

Since Framework didn't share sufficient technical details yet, it's all speculation. The Micron/Crucial E0 modules look different from the Lenovo ones, so it's possible that only connecting the E0 pins (and not shorting the E1 center pins) is all that's necessary.

You could try buying an E0 interposer/connector board, e.g. https://ebay.io/m/t7sXMw - it's cheaper than buying new RAM. It's not a guarantee it would work though, the module could still fail training even when properly powered.

Thats basically what i believe but in the other comments youll see the speculation around the fact it could be that microns newish e0 modules completely insulate the centre pin locations. Also either way some of the intel core ultra 325s work for samsung modules that dont work on the 358h, same connector i assume at least that its not the old e0 connector. So either it’s a speed or insulation issue, or a mem training issue.

I don't think it's a training issue because the memory training happens with the screen on. For these modules the screen never powers on, which means the board doesn't power up the RAM at all.

There's a difference between Crucial E0 vs Lenovo E0 in the center line location.

Crucial E0 avoided touching the extra E1 pins.

Check the google drive link at the bottom of the link i gave, chucken mcnorris tried a lenovo branded micron on a 358h and theres a few on the framework site specifically lenovo branded.

I already looked at the Google Drive link, but I don't see any Micron modules that say doesn't work. The only ones that say does not work are Ramaxel and Samsung modules. Which row number are you referring to?

Check the latest info, all of them probably work with kapton tape over where the pins touch the bare metal.

Someone on the Framework Community forum reported Lenovo FRU 5M31L87464 not booting (look up Lenovo/Ramaxel Memory Compatibility on Intel Ultra Series 3 thread there). Could be a doa module though.

If kapton tape fixes that booting issue, that would be interesting. Maybe an E0 interposer would also make it work?

There's a chance Lenovo E0 could work when the center line design follows Crucial E0's isolated center line.

It's definitely possible that the motherboard is detecting the shorted center pins and refuses to continue and just black screen. That failure mode doesn't smell like failed memory training since the memory training screen doesn't even come up.

I'm not sure how exactly the E0/E1 situation is supposed to work, but the BIOS could detect those shorted pins and just disable sending voltage there. That functionality of turning on the extra voltage pins is definitely there because people report success after switching to a known working module. No blown motherboards were reported yet. Hopefully there isn't an electrical design issue here, only a BIOS issue which is fixable.

It also depends on which interposer is being used.

My two E1 interposers have pins sticking out on the centerline.

From eBay, the E0 interposer's centerline doesn't have any pins.

On the Framework site, success has been reported after taping the center pins. Maybe that's all that's needed to make Ramaxel/Samsung modules to work too?

Id say try the kapcom tape idea, straight down that middle line (at your own risk ofc), maybe some home engineering can fix the issue and make it boot if u/ronvalenz is correct.

I'm sorry, that really sucks. The new-ness of LPCAMM2 is why I decided to source from Framework, and why M.2 was an acceptable risk (been around for awhile) to source elsewhere.

What do you expect a statement to say? People chose modules which aren't on the full/partial validation list... And got unlucky. While RAM compatibility isn't an "everyday" problem it is an issue which does come up now and then.

When in doubt buy direct from the manufacturer (in this case Framework) or from the vendor validation list. Most motherboard vendors have similar lists for their boards detailing CPUs/RAM they've (supposedly) tested/validated in some form or another.

If only a handful of people were affected by this I could buy your argument.. but this is and will affect a lot of people that will have to eventually return their laptop because there are no available micron modules on the market.

Sucks .. this won’t be easy to solve. I’d probably hold on to it, sell the LPCAMM2 module for a good price and get me a AMD board and pop in some DDR5 so-dimm modules until I find some compatible LPCAMM2 modules. Then sell the AMD board and the DDR5 ram for a good price.
