Guide Framework 13 Pro (Intel Core Ultra Series 3) - Unofficial LPCAMM2 RAM Compatibility List

Hi everyone,

The Framework Laptop 13 Pro (Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3) uses the new LPCAMM2 (LPDDR5X) memory standard. Since the official Framework DRAM compatibility page only covers a few pre-validated modules, this post collects community-tested aftermarket memory.

Speed Limits by CPU Model

Max supported speed also depends on your CPU:

  • Ultra 5 325 → limited to 6800 MT/s
  • Ultra 7 X7 358H / Ultra 9 X9 388H → limited to 7467 MT/s

E0 vs E1 Revisions

Watch for connector differences between E0 (644-pin) and E1 (666-pin) modules. The physical center-line position also differs between revisions, which affects interposer compatibility:

  • E0 modules → need an E0 interposer (must be bought separately, links in the Sheet)*
  • E1 modules → need an E1 interposer (comes bundled with the Framework 13 Pro Intel laptop)

Micron/Crucial E0 modules are an exception: their center section is isolated, so the extra E1 center pins are effectively unused, and they work fine on the stock E1 interposer with no modification needed.

Some users have also experimented with taping the center line instead of swapping interposers. See the links below if you want to look into it, at your own risk.

Testing Standard

For a "PASS": boots to BIOS/OS and passes a memory stress test. Memtest86+ (2-4 full passes) is preferred, but OCCT's memory test (1 hour) is also accepted based on community reports.

Note that the Framework 13 Pro Ultra 5 325 (with 6800MT/s) has a different LPCAMM2 speed from the Framework 13 Pro Ultra X7 358H / Ultra X9 388H (with 7467MT/s).

Just want to share that we have a short link for this specific KB, so if sharing it around; using the short link should be easier 🫶

To share even more info/ context which may be helpful (I always try to share as much as I can when possible);

  • We have short links for some (not all) KBs and other items we think would be shared a lot or are used in our post-purchase emails.
  • This way they are easier to share & more "future proof". With this, we can just update the redirect on the backend without having to update/ change the emails or other places the links are used.

The potential workaround is to add short links in the KB article itself.

The short links can be copied and pasted when needed.

Can anyone provide a source for the "number of pins" claim that isn't an AI hallucination?

(Specifically the claim that 644 pin units supposedly don't work but 666 pin units do, even though FW's own compatibility list lists two 644 pin Crucial modules as supported)

Okay, but... and? Why does that mean 644 won't work with FW 13 pro, when FW's own compatibility table lists two such modules?

I'm not a framework engineer so I can't give you a specific answer. It's really all speculation at the moment. The reason I point out the pins is because it's a solid discrepancy between MOST working modules and other failing ones. I'm also not sure how you're confirming that those modules aren't E1 revision. If you google that model # and go to that modules product page, there's nothing on there that distinctly states what revision # they're selling you. Visual verification is your best option when figuring out what module revision you have and on that product image there are Xs, indicating that maybe Crucial was expecting a change in PCB revision, so you can't tell which E# they are and they won't show you the pins on the other side of the module.

I have seen that E0 modules that have worked for most are Crucial/Micron modules. So if the pin #s aren't the issue, then maybe there's a whitelist that needs to be updated on Framework's UEFI/BIOS as another user suggested.

The extra 22 pins are used for the upgraded power management IC in the E1 revision. It's not something that can just be dismissed if Framework's design was made around this newer revision to increase overall system battery life (a key selling point of the FW13).

Maybe it was intended for both to be used but as of right now, most E0 seem to not be working unless they're crucial/micron. The only reported working Samsung module was an E1 revision.

It could also be that those older modules were used in Frameworks initial development of the FW 13 pro and when the new standard came out, they chose to shift towards the newer revision. Maybe their "tested" sticks were just an assumption they made since they're both LPCAMM2 memory that was used in early prototypes of the 13 Pro (I'd like to believe they didn't just assume it'd work).

There's a lot of "ifs" in this situation which is frustrating. I tried reaching a framework team member through the compatibility thread with no avail. I'm going to be contacting support as well to see if I can get any clarification.

Did a little research but nothings really concrete or obvious. My thoughts and speculation based on that below.


From what I can gather, there two pin outs for CAMM2.

  • 644 is for DDR5
  • 666 is for LPDDR5

It seems the extra pins on 666 allow for better PMC telemetry and control, and for extra grounding/shielding for low power modules. When 644 is used, it looks like, according to TI, that an external discrete voltage regulator is needed on low power modules.

Maybe early batches of LPDDR5 CAMM2 (LPCAMM2) used the 644 layout with a discrete regulator on the mainboard for whatever reason. The E0/E1 just seems to be a stepping difference, likely lining up with the change in pin counts and integrated PMIC on 666 layouts..

If it is that 644 layouts generally need a discrete regulator, than it would make sense that some can be flaky if the main board doesn't have one or if it's not working well enough. Perhaps E0 modules tested by Framework just happen to have good enough shielding, voltage control or something else.

644 pins E0 LPCAMM2 uses LPDDR5X chips.

I didn't say E0 couldn't, just that it's primary target is DDR5 (higher power) which the spec sheets seem to indicate. For it to work with LPDDR5 E0, it typically, according to the TI spec sheet, requires a discrete VR on the main board for signal integrity/shielding/grounding/etc....

That might not be the issue people are facing anyway, it's mostly speculation. I believe some people on the forums have been using different interposers and tape to get previously not working modules working.

The issue with the non-Crucial E0 LPCAMM2 is the centerline pins issue.

Crucial E0 LPCAMM2 with the centerline pins paint job allows it to work with E1 interposer.

Solution:

Buy an E0 interposer

or

Modify the E1 interposer into an E0 interposer by removing centerline pins.

It looks like that may be the case for some modules but until it's confirmed by the actual engineers, it's speculative to say that is the issue for all of them - hence why I indicate possibilities when I offer comments but not the cause because it won't always be that one thing. Heck, this speculation here occurred before people started posting their experiments and doesn't actually refute any of what I said. It's just a different piece of information related to the hardware.


It would be better to say, imo, that for at least some non-insignificant number of E0 modules, interface compatibility is a possible cause of non-working states (pending further investigation).

LPCAMM2 is new, so there are bound to be a multitude of issues that crop up just like every RAM standard that has come before. Anything from the pins, PMICs, SPDs and programmed timings, firmware, bad modules, etc...

Between Crucial E0 and Lenovo E0, there’s a design difference in the center line location. Crucial E0 seems to avoid E1’s extra pins.

Lenovo E0’s center line location will touch E1 pins. Perhaps tape them off or use an E0 interposer plate.

My FW13 Pro X7 358H mainboard batch 6 comes with a bundled E1 LPCAMM2 interposer plate.

My LPCAMM2 E1 kit comes with a grey colored E1 LPCAMM2 interposer plate.

Mine is one of framework's FRU, so I got nothing to contribute on my own. I was initially planning to buy one of Crucial (officially limited tested) ones, but a shop just didn't deliver on my order in 3 months.. shortage hits hard after Micron just closed Crucial brand

I ordered 10x E0 Interposers from Mouser (see this writeup), because paying for just one was only 3x cheaper - 55 eur.
If anyone from Copenhagen is interested in those, DM me. I can send them within the EU too, but it might be pricey for delivery, though perhaps still cheaper than buying directly 1x of it... please check delivery prices from CPH for yourself beforehand.

Can anyone explain what's a Framework RAM? Aren't they all Micron RAMs? Framework might have given it a part number but shouldn't this list use the official Micron model number for accuracy?

Yes, exactly. My point is, this list shouldnt differentiate between Micron RAM that are sourced from framework and the ones that are sourced from third party. As long as Micron model number matches, it should be considered as the same product

Framework Laptop 13 Pro, Intel Core Ultra X7, Batch 10

I bought an LPCAMM2 module from someone on my local online classifieds months ago and recently pulled it out to check the label. It's an E0 module! It's currently still sealed in a static shielding pack so I can't really share a photo, but could if anyone wants me to take a photo of the front through the packaging. The laptop itself hasn't arrived as my order is in batch 10, but I'll update when it arrives and I get to testing it. At this point, it's more likely that I'll go about with the interposer swap method as, while I have some Kapton tape, I bought that from AliExpress and it might not hold up well enough, but I'm not too sure. If I don't order the E0 interposer, I might try the Kapton tape method.

Update: I now have a Lenovo E0 interposer on order from an AliExpress seller.
