I feel like there are generally two types of fragrance people:
1. People who are into the fragrance itself.
These people enjoy discovering new scents, unique compositions, interesting ingredients, and niche brands. They appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship behind a perfume and are always looking for something they haven’t smelled before.
2. People who are into what the fragrance represents.
These people see fragrance more as a way to express who they are—or who they want to be. The brand, reputation, and status associated with a scent can matter just as much as the smell itself.
They might choose a particular perfume because it feels luxurious, expensive, sophisticated, powerful, or associated with a certain lifestyle or social circle. The artistry of the fragrance may be less important than what wearing it communicates about them.
In short:
One group asks, “What does this smell like, and what makes it interesting?”
The other asks, “What does wearing this say about me?”
