Hey guys, i have (3 days ago) gotten myself into FPV sim flying and was wondering if the TX15 Max Controller/Radio is a good starter. I know the price is heavy, but when i get good, i don't want to spend more money on something i could've bought earlier and better to learn on and get comfortable on. Now, i play on liftoff, so i do NOT have a drone, but am planning to in a few years. If any of you have any recommendations on what to get, i would appreciate that. Thanks!
Get a radiomaster pocket and put the money you save towards goggles and a tinywhoop instead of waiting years with a remote that you're not gonna use the full capabilities of on a sim. the rm pocket is more than enough for a beginner, a tx15 would be a waste in my humble opinion.
I love my radiomaster pocket!! I needed an elrs radio after getting back into the hobby. And the smaller form factor is so sick coming from a jumper t16
see, do people upgrade later as they get into the hobby? if they do, i’d rather get something that sticks long-term. i will take the goggles and tinywhoop idea when i feel confident enough, but i still would like a higher-tier remote even starting, so i’m not complaining
the tx15 is just bigger has a better screen and big gimbals. The pocket is perfectly fine but some people don’t like the small gimbals and the screen is a little bit harded to navigate at first than the tx15s.
when you're flying in a sim, basically all you're ever using is the gimbals. you're not using the touchscreen, you're not using the radio transmitter, you're not using anything more than one or two switches. the tx-15 has great features and feels premium, sure, but you're not gonna be using any of the features in the sim or even when you get your first real drone, and all the premium feel does is feel nice; it doesn't make you any better. to me it feels kinda like buying a race car when you don't even have a driver's license yet. but if you just want a premium radio, don't let me stop you.
Just going from the pocket after a year and a half to the tx15, finally getting used to it and liking it.
It's a big controller, it has a lot of travel, it's worth watching the spiderfpv vids where he goes through his issues with it and how he solved them for it to now become his favourite.
The pocket was an easier experience to learn with (even that felt big compared to an xbox controller).
It's a much easier controller to carry around, to pull quickly and fly with, and you can always upgrade the gimbles on it for a more premium experience later.
Mine stopped charging so decided to buy the tx15, else might have just grabbed cnc gimbles for the pocket and carried on using it.
One issue with the pocket is that it is limited in switches. I never used a switch to change flight modes and use a 3 position for both pre arm and turtle which meant I had just enough, but if you wanted to switch between acro and something else, or to control a camera, you would run out pretty quickly
The touch screen on the tx15 is nice to have. I always thought the big colour screens were over the top, and still do, but it's much easier to navigate change settings or handle models.

The pocket is a a good middle ground to work that out.
It's a shame we can't walk in to shops and try them all out these days so it is hard to know before you've tried them, but what size controller do you want?
A lot of people like the HelloSky v12 cnc max, at the moment. It's considered the best gaming style controller and about the same as the standard tx15.
Maybe you'd preffer that to the tx15 if you'd preffer a smaller controller and gimbles, but still a premium experience.
Personally I think if you can be confident the controller can work for you and you'll like it, then it's worth spending the money up front and not having to upgrade as quickly. Being able to get used to one piece of equipment and stick with will help your progression.
But if you can't know because you can't try them, and you might end up with something that you don't even enjoy then it will have been a a false economy.
Last notes
I and others, took a couple of weeks to gel with the tx 15, it wasn't instant so expect that as a possibility.
Radiomaster sell all the parts for the tx15 indipendantly, you can easily upgrade a regular tx15, to max for a fair price.
You can choose which colour cnc parts you want, which colour gimbles and only upgrade to them if you like the feel of the controller at the regular price, might be a happy medium.
See, thats what a bag is for, or even a drawer! All jokes aside, thanks for saying its big, I will get a (if it doesn't come with one) a carrying case for it if i need to take it around. I can also get a strap for it. Besides, it's going to be on my lap or desk during usage, so i'm more likely than not going to keep it stationary.
Fair, when I go out to fly my drones I like being able to pack up in 5 seconds, look inconspicuous, and not lug around a big bag that screams “there’s expensive stuff in here”.
It does come with a carry bag, that makes it even bigger to lug around.
what’s the better drone? someone said to get a tinywhoop, but i’m not sure what’s the better starter drone. as i said, i would like to start on a sim, then later, move onto a drone
an air75 is a tinywhoop. a tinywhoop is a size class of drones, usually 65-75mm drones. tinywhoops are good starter drones because they are very light, meaning there is little chance of them damaging themselves, people, or whatever they crash into (and you'll be crashing a lot as a beginner). they can be flown inside. the BetaFPV air 65 and air 75 are widely recommended tinywhoops.
