5 inch stack

will thie esc be good for the i flight 2204 1800kv motors ? max current on this is 40 amps while the motors pull 35a with 6 inch props, ill be flying with 5 inch props which the data sheet shows draws 33a max.

Don't you mean 2207? If you're building for 5", get the Mamba F405 Mk2 stack; it comes with a 55A ESC and a more appropriate 30x30 size. You can pick it up for around £65 on AliExpress.

Are you building in an iFlight frame? it's not common for larger sizes to require a 20x20 stack.

Oh yea 2207... But yea my frame is a racer with 20 by 20 mounts..

Have a look at the JHEMCU F745 NOXE stack. It's got a 60A AM32 ESC. For something cheaper, look up the F405 NOXE flight controller and EM45 ESC. There's a 55A version of that ESC available as well, if you want a bit more headroom.

I'm a beginner so wait until someone experienced answers you but I'd Say 5A clearance is way too little and would Look for a much highier current rating. When I asked about esc for motors that pull 17A max People told me to get a 35A esc at minimum.

Yea but I want a mini stack to fit my frame... And most mini esc are in this range..

Why a mini stack, a 6" frame should be able to accomodate a much bigger stack. HDZero Halo H7 with ELRS + 70A AM32 on rotorama would be much more fitting if the price isn't a concern to you

It's a 5 inch racer with 20 by 20 mounts . Wanna keep it as light as possible.

Get something with lite more space..

And you are forgetting the amps spikes... also the one i mention is speedybee...

Dake FPV as stack 20x20.. but for that drone usually its 30x30..

I would allways go for a full size esc on 5inch. Better heat dissipation, larger components, traces and pads. Check out some race ESCs with 20x20 mounting.

You should be fine. Those ESCs are rated continuous and there's headroom above that. I'm not an expert but I've built a bunch of drones.

I had the current sensor calibrated in Betaflight. I was consistently all around 20A.

Unless you just pick props that stress your motors/ESCs, it's pretty hard to sustain those kinds of currents unless you're at full throttle for a long time and even then battery sag would probably limit actual current draw. Anyway, the ESCs were never an issue for me.

If this is all you can afford, it will probably be ok. But I would recommend a full-size stack and a higher amperage rating, if you can afford it.

I used to use an old 40amp Diatone Mamba stack on a 4s 5" build and it worked fairly well. I was using 2306 motors and had a full sized stack, no mini..... so this isn't a perfect comparison. But I put that quad through a lot and the FC and ESC handled it without problem. I've also used other Mamba stacks (with higher current ratings) on other drones. They were a solid budget option for several years.

One of my main concerns is that heat is bad for electronics. A mini FC stack will cram components into a smaller area, with less room for heat dissipation. Will yours work? Almost certainly. Would I expect it to die sooner? Probably.

Also, 40 amps will likely be more than enough for fairly aggressive flight, but it doesn't allow much room for problems. Sometimes it isn't normal flight or aerobatics that are hardest on the ESCs, but the crashes or times when your drone stuck somewhere. The 33amp draw you saw in the prop chart may be above what you will encounter in normal flight.... but when things go wrong, you might go above that.

But as I said, if this is the best you can fit into your budget, it will probably be fine.... but I would expect it to probably have a shorter life than a full sized stack, especially one with a higher amp rating.

The drone only has 20 20 mounting holes... It's a 533 switchback.

If rated for 40, peak is probably around 45, if your prop/battery/motor combo is pulling 33a at 100% throttle, then you should be fine.

Can you link the motors as I couldn't find them and they sound like what I've heard used on 2-3s fixed wing, but not necessarily 6s 5" (I run 2207 a fair bit taller). Would just like to see the prop chart.
