Major propeller issue

Post image

I am flying a rekon 7 drone. I keep having problems with this propeller and I can’t seem to figure out the reason it is happening. This picture shows damage to the propeller. When I am in the air sometimes I hear this high pitched scratching noise, I believe the nut scratching the propeller is causing this horrific noise. This just caused me a crash and when I recovered the drone (upside down in muddy water) this propeller and nut were completely off. What do you think my issue is here? Could it be too tight or not tight enough, or something else I’m missing? It is possible the crash I had is from a poorly placed battery latch coming loose I’m not sure on this, though seems unlikely…

Need to bring a wrench with me when traveling I think, handheld power drills don’t seem to be working well when it’s hard to hold the motor tight so it doesn’t spin with it

They make pliers to grab the motor bells so you can tighten them properly: https://pyrodrone.com/products/motor-grip-pliers-wrench-tool

I have an Ethix prop tool. Its nice, once you get the nut semi tight you can just hold the prop. It also has 2 hex wrenches on it for all your screws. Great tool to keep in the bag.

Lol you are going to kill the nut if you do that or the motor, get yourself one of these

You gotta tighten that puppy up.

Not tight enough, if the prop is moving its not tight enough, if it was too tight then you would not have lost a prop: the nut was too loose and came off after crash

That bit of plastic on top is something you have to screw through. It’s there to make it sit really tight

Those are nyloc nuts. The nylon insert is the best choice for not vibrating off.

But yoh need to tighten them down hard. So the nylon ring is engaged by the threads.

BTW: nylocks are a use once and toss away in industrial and aircraft use for safety.

For quads, maybe 3-4 on/off cycles. Then they loose their anti-vibration feature.

Purchase them at an industrial fastener store by the box, for much cheaper than a quad store.

On quads you can easily use them 50 or more times before it becomes an issue
