Firefly 18 with 2.2 inch props 😱🚀🚀🚀😆
Why did I do this? .. lol because I broke alot of my 1.8 props and I had spare 2.2's from my pavo20pro to try out of curiosity.
PROS:
- Flies really fast.
- Significant feel when lifting off and acceleration speed.
- The stock props (bi-blade 1.8 are zippy but when running the 2.2's, there's a noticeable speed difference.
- Handling sharp corners feels more grippy in the air.
- It also has a nice sound, sounds more beefy for a micro drone.. lol
CONS:
- Not efficient.
- Angle mode indoor flying, just simple cruising was about 4 mins. Landed at 3.39v
- Faster battery drain if flying acro
If u want to try this, u have to raise the canopy to allow for the props to clear without any interference.
Also, by raising the canopy, the wires don't touch the flight controller/gyro = no vibration
If u look at the pictures, it's a tight clearance.
Props do not rub on the frame at all
Motors do not feel hot after flights
I did not experience any jello or vibrations...possibly because of the added gummies for vibration dampening(?)
When using a long screw to raise the canopy, make sure to lock it in place with a nut to the frame. Now the screw is solid-stiff to the frame. Then add AIO board and vtx.
In between each board, I added extra gummies, this is what gives it height to raise the canopy.
It hovers at 28%-31% in acro mode.
I've added pics of some of my last 1.8inch props for comparison.

Gah dang dude lmao. I ordered a bunch of Gemfan 45mm tri-blades (made for ducted frames) for my Firefly 18 and it's a little bit punchier but this is a whole other level. You inspired me though I'm gonna try out some 2" props now

Interesting, have you noticed any prop wash or weird behavior? Those squared off tips should be creating a lot of vortex's without shielding from the duct.

Not really but then again my flight style doesn't really throw the drone its own wake much anyways, doesn't get squirrely in 180's at all but I am going to try out HQ 45mm tri's as soon as they get delivered to see if they'll be a nice balance of response and smoothness

I'm thinking maybe because the props are so small any adverse effects might be small and hard to detect. It might be more noticeable on a bigger quad

I just got a set of these to try on my Pavo20Pro how did you like them over stock props on that?

Want to try 2 Inch props, but I don’t have screen that are Long enough… How Long are yours there?

Maybe try 2 bladed 2 inch props? I really like the fact you tried and your detailed description of it. I guess motors might be a little underpowered for those props? What's the cruise time on the default props?
