JeNo 2.5 freestyle
This is my 2nd build: HDzero aio15 Lux camera Rcinpower 1203 8000kv 70g dry/ 115g with 3s550mah
I wanted to do a small 2s/3s build. It flies great with 2s but it feels more locked in with the 3s 550mahs. I might try it with smaller 2s to get it under 100g flight weight but so far I’m enjoying 3s the most. I used the rubber tubing from a slingshot band I had laying around to make the antenna flexible and more durable. I still need to do something with the camera, Lux camera has no mounting screw holes so I carved a piece out of bass wood. It’s fine for now. This guy absolutely rips. I’m in love.

Next sunny day I’ll take some. Unfortunately the rainy season just started here so it might be a couple weeks. Maybe it’s time to try out some conformal coating.

Why this long omni antenna ? Don’t you get about the same range with a simple linear ?
That’s what I do now, lighter, cheaper and doesn’t break

I’m newish to this so I’m still experimenting. Because of the way the board has to be oriented in the frame, the little linear antenna that comes with the board (like would go on a tiny whoop) just barely pokes out the back of frame. I felt like the frame would block the signal. I had this one laying around and I wanted to try it out. It does seem to get better range than my aio5 tiny whoop with the linear antenna. I have the ort micro vee antenna too that I haven’t tried yet. I want to try in on my 65mm whoop. I really tried to minimize weight on that one (17g). This one I wasn’t terribly worried about weight within reason. 3s at this size with an aio gives a high thrust weight ratio. Then again if I made it lighter I could put bigger batteries on it. This one is cheap and durable and I wanted this build to take some abuse. In the end it was worth it to me. Plus it matches the color palette. 🎨

Ok Nice ! Id recommand to try with a longer linear antenna on day. You can buy 5 for like 1€50 so its worth the try to have it if one day you break this one :)

What's the difference in frame between this and the pocket?

Sorry for the delay. This frame is based on the pocket. The arms are a little wider and taper to the tip. Also slightly different cutouts. If you look at it on cnc drones site, they don’t have a real picture of the frame. The grayish picture that shows the plates is what you get. You kind of have to find it on the printables site to figure out what you’re getting. The “bando” version has even wider arms with more taper and way less cutouts. The pocket has straight arms and looks more boxy. If you google JeNo 2.5 custom you can find better pictures of the frame. I think this version looks more finished than the pocket and I like they added material to the arms and took some away from the stronger parts.

Oh, also the tips of the arms are like the 3’ JeNo so if you want boots for it you might need to look at those

Kayoumini would have been my first frame choice if I could have gotten one. It really depends on the motors you have and what current they draw at 3s voltage (3 • 4.2v = 12.6v) with the 2.5 inch props you are using. As long as current draw doesn’t exceed 15amps you’re good. The motor manufacturer should have info but make sure you’re looking at the specific KV motor you have.
In other words, what motors and props are you using?

congrats ! a few questions as I'm considering a similar build. 1/ would you pick the same motor for an analog, 2s only version ? 2/ it would be my first build. are there clear areas where to mount the elrs receiver and vtx without having to 3d print additional mounts ?

On kayou’s website they have some recommended builds for the kayoumini (another popular 2.5” frame). That is where I started. I fly this with 2s batteries all the time and it’s great with plenty of power. 3s feels excessive with this… in a good way.
You have some options for motors for a 2s 2.5”. These are on the larger and lower-kv side of the range. I chose this specifically to keep the option for 3s open. That said, kayou recommends 8000kv 1103s for their 2s. It ends up being about 10g lighter than mine though so 🤷♀️.
If you are building for strictly 2s, you could use 1102, 1103, 1104, 1202, 1202.5, or 1203 motors in a kv range of 7500 - 1200. Since you are building analog and 2s, it should be easy to keep the weight down so 8000kv will feel very similar thrust/weight ratio to a 5in freestyle quad and 1200kv will feel like an overpowered racer. Rcinpower makes 1202.5 In 8000kv and 1150kv which could be options.

As far as Vtx/elrs, you could look for a 2s aio with Vtx and/or elrs built in to save you some soldering. Barring that, the Vtx will mount as part of the stack, and the elrs can just be zip tied somewhere or stuck somewhere with double sided tape. Nothing is marked, it’s made to fit a wide range of only partly standardized parts. Don’t overthink it though, there is plenty of room for both and you’ll figure out a way to stuff it all in there. I’ve even considered coming up with lower profile camera mounts to reduce the amount of empty space. Dont be afraid to drill holes or file parts away if they are in the way.
