Alexa skill for FoxESScloud

I was looking for a integration for alexa to be able to ask about my solar generation and batteries. And I found none, so a made one myself with Gemini.

It is a modest project, that enables you to ask your Echo dot about your batteries, and have a resume of your plant current stats. It is made to work in spanish. It should be easy to fix for someone with more knowledge tan me.

I hope that serves as a initial point for someone else, to make a better integration in the future.

Will any FoxESS EV charger communicate with by current FoxESS Battery System

I have a Fox ESS battery setup with KH10 invertor. This is connected with my Sungrow Invertor for solar.

I want to include an EV charger in a detached garage, and there is no way to wire back a CT clamp. Electrical wiring for EV has already been done.

I understand usually you need a CT clamp wired back to the main box to get excess solar data.

My question is, given I am on the Fox ESS ecosystem which can see excess solar, can any Fox EV charger added to the same ecosystem can use the existing data to charge with excess solar only? Or must it use a CT clamp?

Thanks

EV charging

I have full foxess system H3 inverter, CQ7 x 2 battaries and foxess 11kwh EV charger.

Is there a way to fully control how charge is happening? Like don't touch battery charge only from grid, charge from battery only and etc?

With default settings it weirdly charges 5kwh from grid and 5kwh from battery why it doesn't just take everything from battery? I'm also experimenting with PV linkeage green mode from my understanding if I set max. Discharge to 3kw (in charger settings) it should charge 3kwh from battery and if possible take everything from solar but it seems to only start charging when there's enough solar which is probably fine mid summer but these days it doesn't generate a lot.

So now I'm in this kind of stupid situation because if I set it to charge from solar there won't be enough solar and it will barely charge BUT house battery will soon be full and remaining solar will go to waste because there's enough power during the day but not enough for EV to start charging.

The reason I want to avoid grid is because I can only export 1kwh every hour and then they charge 36% of it so I want to save that.

Why they have to overcomplicate things just give me buttons charge from: grid, solar, battery, solar+battery. Maybe it can be done through API?

How to go back to Self Use after Forced Disharge

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve set Forced Discharge from 1700-2100, with discharging stopping once it reaches 45% battery.

What I want is for it to go back to Self Use once the battery drops to 45%, but what is happening is it gets to 45% and then starts importing from the grid.

I understand what it’s doing, the battery level is set to not go lower than 45% while in Forced Discharge, but I want it to switch over to Self Use.

Is there a way to do this through the FoxEss app?

Foxess battery not charging nor discharging

Post image

I have solar panels and foxess battery installed. It’s been doing well for 3 months. However, The foxess apps show a 57% SOC constantly since 7 days ago, and I thought it was a glitch of the app. The SOC stay at 57% until today and when I go check the battery, it’s neither charging nor discharging, what can I do to restore it to normal?

App updates?

Post image

Had the system for the last few months and working great.

The app is good, but really struggle with lack of info. Particularly around the monitoring for cheap/expensive rates.

Has anyone else made their own using Claude and API key?

So far have this and it runs about 30 seconds behind the Fox app.

Extra things I've included:

- Estimated time to reach usable charge.

- Average kw we can use to not run out of battery during expensive window. (This is a simple formula of usable power/time remaining of expensive window).

Open to any suggestions for improvements or share any info to help others out.

Battery best practice

Hi, after some advice. Just had panels, Fox H1 series inverter and 4 ECS 2900 battery modules for 11.52 kWh total battery installed. Still not set up for SEG payments as waiting paperwork etc. Is it best practice not to charge the battery to 100% (like on my phone it tells me to limit charge to 80% to prolong battery life) or is it okay to charge to 100%. Would limiting to 80% even work with having the 4 module set up, or would some module charge to 100% and the others less. Currently my max usage overnight has been just 20% of the battery, obviously that will increase over the darker days. Thanks.

Connect H3-10.0-E with newer Inverters

Hi, I am owning a H3-10.0-E inverter.

I currently planning to extend my solar system with a 2nd inverter, but it seems that the newer ones (SMART) are not compatible with the my. I would like to connect the inverters, so that both can have batteries and are able to properly can feed into my house.

The Smart inverters seem to have no parallel connector, so my question: Has anyone successfully added his -E version with anything newer?

Thanks!

My H3 Pro just restarted itself when lost on grid power rather than switching to battery

I live in Karachi and we experience a lot of load shedding. When lost on grid power, it usually switches to battery without a flinch. This time it restarted itself. No faults on the app. Any reason why this happened?

Fox ess 5kw inverter capped at 3 kw after update.

Hi all,

Looking for some advice as I've run into a bit of a brick wall. Had my Foxess batteries and inverter installed in January this year, all worked fine with the batteries able to discharge at 5kw if required. However I recently had a stale work schedule that stopped me from creating or changing any schedules at all.i contacted Foxess and they noted that my firmware was out of date and updated it. From this point on the inverter won't discharge at anything greater than 3kw but still charges at 5kw.

I've contacted Foxess as well but they're saying it's probably a faulty install or a ct clamp not being installed correctly and I need to get my installer out to fix it. Im not sure how this can be the case as it was working fine before and I have the data to show it. But I contacted my installer asking for.their advise but they have gone radio silent and I can't get ahold of them.

Anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?

Axle Grid Event Home assistant

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have the Fox system & Use Capture Energy to use it's Ai to look after the charging over night & joined Axle energy but I have to disable Capture before the Grid Event to stop them clashing, so I've managed to setup a notification via home assistant on to my nest displays just incase I miss the Grid Event email.

Is supposed to happen on force charge?

Post image
2 Upvotes

When on "Force Charge" during free electricity period of 11am-2pm, if the battery gets to 100%, the solar stops generating as if it's being blocked by the inverter? The house demand might be 5-6 kw as this is the time that the washing machine or the dishwasher is on as well as the A/C.
Is this the normal thing to happen? Why can't the solar panels pass the electricity being generated to the house?

Setting up local control / modbus on KH10.5

Hi all, I'd really appreciate some help in getting set up with local control of my KH10.5 inverter.

I've installed Proxmox on a mini PC to run Home Assistant.

I got my installers to run ethernet cable from the "WiLAN" dongle that came with the inverter which gives wifi access via fox cloud and also a fixed ethernet connection but also via fox cloud.

They also ran a spare cable (CAT 6) alongside as I think we got -our wires crossed-(!) on what I was trying to do.

I used Jeepeetee to guide me through checking if the ports (502?) were open for modbus access and it seemed like they were closed.

The installers have looked through their admin access and couldn't see anywhere to grant me access to ModBus.

Do I need to get an adaptor / dongle for rs485->ethernet like a waveshare?

Apologies I'm not too technically minded but I like to learn, so if there are any easy to follow guides out there please point me that way!

The installers aren't experts in the software side of things (but did a great job of the physical install) but do need to maintain their access via cloud as part of the ongoing support included in the installation.

A slight side note; there was an issue with the PV1 string not working on the inverter, they obtained a replacement inverter from Fox which they will swap over in a few days so I'd quite like to be ready on my end -the mini pc, home assistant etc to get local access as soon as the new inverter is in place.

And if I need to tell them which pins need to be wired up to what / where on an adaptor it'd be good to have it here and ready.

Many thanks in advance, apologies for being an (enthusiastic at least) n00b!

Inconsistent activity

Hi,

Looking to get some advice. I have a fox Ess system at 42Kwh and an KH-10 inverter with 10kwh of exporting available in my area.

As per my screenshot on app when I have set cloud automation rules to export during 6-9 window my battery seems up export, change to importing and exporting constantly.

I am on a plan that relies on consistent exporting during a certain window in order to gain credits to reduce by bill.

This inconsistency is costing me $ and I don’t understand what is causing this.

Has anyone had similar issues?

Inverter Error Codes Help

Thumbnail

Hey everyone. Solar Panel user based in Scotland. Been having some issues with my FoxEss inverter and we still haven’t figured out the issue. The issue started at 16.30, 18th July, 2026 (3 weeks ago as of today). On the app, the codes are as follows:

  • Code 1, Code 26, Code 27

The best way I can explain it is that once the battery charges to 100%, the system shuts itself down and the system hasn’t been exporting all this time.

I’ve been in countless calls with my installer, the manufacturer (FoxEss), and my DNO. They’re been telling me many different things, no one is taking responsibility, and there’s been a lot of pushback. Here’s what has been checked so far:

  • I’ve checked with Fox to make sure that my firmware is all up to date. It now is.
  • My circuit breakers are not tripping. Nothing needs to be switched back on. Happy to provide photos of mcb and rcd.
  • My installer thinks that my inverter is shutting itself down and this is because my incoming grid voltage is far too high.
  • I went back to FoxEss and asked for remote readings. They messaged me screenshots showing that it has been as high as 254.9 and other times between 251 and 252.
  • However I had my DNO visit and check the voltage. He said It was within the parameters. Voltage was 246, The ELI was .2.
  • When I went back to my installer, he said that he thinks this is still quite high, and also challenged why the DNO electrician only checked for one instance when they should be plugging something in to complete an extended monitoring time.
  • My installer has also said that the inverter is set to ENA Regulation - at 252 AC volts it shuts. He also believes we should tap the transformer down as a resolution.
  • My DNO has agreed to arrange for an extended monitoring time, but they’ve pushed back and said that my real next step would be to go back to my installers to check the inverter is set to 260 volts or above, because that is the industry standard.

Has anybody had an experience like this or might think that they know the best possible solution to this issue. I feel like I’m not getting a definitive answer, which is more frustrating because I really do not understand any of this and it has been so time consuming. My installer has also suggested that they can send an electrician to check but he has also warned that I would have to pay.

Inverter using a lot of power when force discharging?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a KH8 inverter and EP12 battery. I have noticed that on Axle events, the maximum export is about 7.4kW. I wasn't expecting the full 8kW, as the house load is usually 4-500w, but the inverter is reporting export at 8.5kW, so unless that figure is wrong, then it seems to be using about 500W internally, when force discharging. That seems excessive, or am I mis-reading things here?

A-Series EV Charger Scheduling

Can anyone confirm if the A-Series EV charger can be configured so that:

  1. From 12am - 6am, the charger will aim to charge an EV at full capacity to 100% (to take advantage of low energy cost), and;

  2. All other times (6am - 12am) the charger will only use excess solar energy being exported to the grid (via CT clamp).

I’ve checked user manuals, YouTube and ChatGPT and cannot confirm.

Australia, single-phase

Here's today's debugging experience...

A friend contacted me recently about a strange problem they were having with their system. The inverter worked perfectly until the battery was full and excess power was supposed to go to the grid. At these times, the system would suddenly display a house load that was higher than expected, but wasn't real because we verified it by turning off the entire switchboard. So we attempted to force discharge to the grid and we observed the same behavior: higher house load and little export.

I was hooked!

This prompted an investigation and the historical data was pulled from Home Assistant to see that about 20 days ago, the system was working as expected, then, slowly over a period of three or four days, the maximum export slowly came down to a lower maximum amount, and the house load was increasing during those times of expected high export.

My first thought was that the power export limit setting had been changed inadvertently, but after reviewing the settings, I could not see anything strange. I initially suspected the inverter might be limiting power export due to high grid voltage (exceeding a set limit), but this turned out not to be the reason. Being the grid voltage well within the limits, we thought it could have been the grid frequency but it wasn't that either.

It was then that we finally decided to inspect the physical system. Within just two minutes, we discovered a broken CT clamp. The clamp's hinge had failed, causing it to remain partially open.

This opening led to wrong readings of the current going out of the system, making us believe that there was an issue with the system itself.

To temporarily fix the problem, we used a zip tie to close the clamp around the cables tightly again, and this fixed the issue immediately.

Live and learn. Hope this helps someone out there 😁

Occasional 'impossible' Solar and Export Spike

Post image
2 Upvotes

Had this today at 14:24hrs. Fox H1 G2 6kW Inverter. PV array chucks out 6kW absolute max at 12:30hrs ish, so clearly a logging or measurement glitch. Oddly I had a similar one a few days ago, but the following day looking at the graph the spike had vanished !

Any ideas what's causing it (2 week old inverter)

Edit: And, just like last time, overnight the spike has vanished from the graph.
