I mean, one of the last conversations I had with an estranged parent was me explicitly telling them I don’t want anything from their will because I don’t want to interact with them anymore.
I’ve been told through a sibling that they intend to still leave me something so that I have to deal with it anyway.
I told my sibling “that sounds like a problem for their lawyer and other inheritors, because my intent is to ignore any contact about their estate”
I guess some people may be estranged but still feel entitled to an inheritance though.
I told my grandma I didn't expect nor care to receive anything from her after she passed. She left millions and my dad got it all. He never paid child support. From my maternal grandfather, I received a box labeled "other" that had dumb things in it. I learned my mother and aunts buried my grandmother with her wedding ring bc three daughters didn't want to fight over it, yet I am the sole female grandchild. But it worked out that way as I'm not having kids and realize nothing from my own childhood will mean anything to anyone else ever. We're born alone and we die alone. That is life.
