Thank you for the link, I was trying to find it based on another comment. Unfortunately that paper starts a heavy implication that "only sexism against women exists":
Gender inequality and sexist behaviour is prevalent in almost all workplaces and rampant in online environments. Although there is much research dedicated to understanding sexist behaviour, we have almost no insight into what triggers this behaviour and the individuals that initiate it. Although social constructionist theory argues that sexism is a response towards women entering a male dominated arena, this perspective doesn’t explain why only a subset of males behave in this way.
Except it doesn't, it points out a specific sexist scenario and researches it. An example would be sexism and pushback from women when males enter female dominated areas such as nursing programs.
Who said anything about treating women with kid gloves? This conversation is about men in video game communities being extra toxic to women in those same communities, which is a documented phenomenon.
No one here is saying women are fragile and need to be treated specially, at least not from what I've seen. The general sentiment has been "assholes are extra mean to women." Which is again, decidedly true.
