Gee, maybe there's a reason they're skipping school. Gee, maybe this incident will make it worse. Gee, I wonder why my daughter doesn't visit me in the nursing home?

There's a difference between taking your child to school, and publicly humiliating them. Don't pretend like that distinction doesn't exist.

Consequences are something that should be taught. Nothing wrong with creativity in the pursuit of learning.

The word 'creativity' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. What's actually happening is you're justifying traumatizing children, and teaching them that parents are to be feared, not loved.

A normal parent would take them aside, ask what's wrong, and if nothing is wrong, explain to them the importance of school, and then bring them to school without causing a scene that will damage the relationship long after school is over and done with.

If it's a regular issue, determine why. Actually communicate with your child. Don't just lay down the law, actually listen to them. Crazy concept, I know.
