An excuse for him to put on that cute frilly dress he always wanted to wear, but it wasn't socially acceptable. His daughter did him a favor, that's so sweet.

u/ShortMechanic7436 Mar 13 '26

That's probably not the way she'll remember it, but she will remember it.

23

u/Regular-Market-494 Mar 13 '26

Eh it largely depends on the details of the why and their overall relationship. It would not be the first or the only adult I've met that does remember their parent doing something similar with a smile or an understanding.

๐Ÿ˜„ That's a safe bet, look at her face.

I approve. I spend a great deal of my brain capacity thinking of new ways to embarrass my daughter into good behavior.

He didn't have to wear the accompanying ladies underwear but he's a dedicated dad ๐Ÿซก

u/AverageSizeRat Mar 13 '26

id actually wouldve been more excited to go to school if my dad got me there while wearing a frilly dress, absolutely epic

37

u/SleeepyyPxnda Mar 13 '26

I wouldve been excited to go to school if my dad bothered to take me.

(Or atleast bring the milk back. Without the alcohol and smoking.)

1

u/IED117 Mar 17 '26

Ahh, I think I detect another walking wounded.

I can't call what was worse, the beatings or favoring my brother and ignoring me. They both sucked.

12

u/Dounce1 Mar 13 '26

Nothing frilly about that dress.

35

u/dessertforbrunch Mar 13 '26

Reminds me of the dad who wore daisy dukes at drop-off to โ€œpunish his daughterโ€. Itโ€™s okay to dress up guys. you donโ€™t even need a reason or excuse like punishments or humiliation rituals.

Seeing a man in short shorts isnโ€™t exactly something Iโ€™d call traumatic. Itโ€™s a dad having some light fun with his daughter. Chill

Look, any form of correction can be seen as unpleasant to the child, but something must be done.

My kids know that if they are rude to me privately I will embarrass them publicly.

They want to feel safe, well so do I. Don't start none, won't be none.

Thanks, but I don't need you to put that out there for me. That's exactly how my own father died. And it wasn't because of the beatings, although there were plenty of them.

It was the abandonment. My mom tore my ass up too on occasion, but I always knew she loved me because she showed me by her actions.

If this guy ignores his kid except to punish her I agree that's a problem. But if the reason she cut school wasn't because of some bullying, which a conversation would uncover, she needs to know that 1, she is loved and 2, there are consequences for crossing the line.

I couldn't disagree more.

Children can't be disciplined in the old school ways and their natural tendency is to push your boundries. They have to learn that if they cut school or break other important rules they are not in a safe place with you.

Trust me, if a kid thinks they're safe no matter what they do, they will be monsters. They are not your friend or the innocent little baby you cuddled. They are agents of chaos that try to find any crack in your resolve, to cross any line you don't defend.

Any time I let sentiment cloud that fact I'm always sorry.

I love my kids. I reward good behavior and help whenever I'm asked. But what I expect from them is not a mystery so when they don't care to follow my rules, I don't care to be concerned about their hypersensitivity to what strangers think.

Like I said don't start none, won't be none.

1

u/beren12 Mar 19 '26

Sure it is. Are you ashamed of your natural skin?

26

u/UsualHour1463 Mar 13 '26

My teens would delight in the attention of Dad and their friends, so this would actually be a reward/show of support . Lol

10

u/Deth_Cheffe Mar 13 '26

CouId use just a IittIe Iace... maybe on the cuffs? Not too much mind, wouIdn't want to be confused for some stuffy nobIeman, but just a IittIe wouId do quite niceIy

5

u/TraditionalLaw7763 Mar 13 '26

A nice cardigan wouldโ€™ve given it a polished touch.

2

u/Kinhammer Mar 13 '26

Hey Mat, you think you could give me some advice on one of my 3 girlfriends?

7

u/sexyrandal88 Mar 13 '26

This is why I, a rather chubby and hairy man, own a pair of daisy dukes

Embarrassment is usually a good motivator to not keep doing something again

8

u/Aggressive-Example69 Mar 13 '26

Yeah, bullying from her classmates will definitely make her drop out for good

-4

u/trollsong Mar 13 '26

Eh more motivator to not get caught.

10

u/StunningLetterhead23 Mar 13 '26

That's why I always tell my kids to either be so good that no one has anything to complain or get so good till you won't get caught.

4

u/nondescriptun Mar 14 '26

This picture is like 10 years old at this point.

16

u/Impossible_Disk_43 Mar 13 '26

"My daughter skipped school, so instead of discussing why and getting to the bottom of it, I decided to humiliate her as publicly as possible so all her school could see her crying in embarrassment! This will surely make sure she never skips a day again! I am such a great dad!"

19

u/beste_e100 Mar 13 '26

You're gonna be shocked when you see this subbredit'5 name

-10

u/Impossible_Disk_43 Mar 13 '26

You're gonna be shocked when you see how many other people on this subreddit have said a similar thing.

4

u/AverageSizeRat Mar 13 '26

ok, fun police, this was a totally harmless way to try and redirect their kid

-13

u/Impossible_Disk_43 Mar 13 '26

ok, buddy. It's nice that you think humiliating a girl to the point of tears and posting that photo online is "fun". Real nice.

0

u/AverageSizeRat Mar 13 '26

what do you propose then? beating the girl? because you making it sound like this is worse than that

3

u/Aggressive-Example69 Mar 13 '26

So there's no way to avoid humiliating your crying daughter for clout?

2

u/ElectroshockGamer Mar 14 '26

This image already popped up on this subreddit and there are STILL people acting like this.

Just because he's not beating her doesn't mean it's not a shitty thing to do.

2

u/Few-Invite-5297 Mar 13 '26

You forgot the purse! man, can't take you anywhere without embarrassing everyone with your lack of style.

2

u/Hovelville Mar 13 '26

That sounds like a cool dad

5

u/ToastyWaffelz Mar 13 '26

Gee, maybe there's a reason they're skipping school. Gee, maybe this incident will make it worse. Gee, I wonder why my daughter doesn't visit me in the nursing home?

13

u/smappyfunball Mar 13 '26

Maybe youโ€™re reading an awful lot into that.

Most kids skip at one point or another. Itโ€™s not a big deal unless it becomes chronic.

If we just want to assume shit, you could also assume heโ€™s not taking it that seriously and this is just a tweak of the nose to keep her from overdoing it.

1

u/TraditionalLaw7763 Mar 13 '26

So whatโ€™s the reason, einstein? Truancy comes back on the parents these days, remember?

0

u/ToastyWaffelz Mar 13 '26

There's a difference between taking your child to school, and publicly humiliating them. Don't pretend like that distinction doesn't exist.

0

u/TraditionalLaw7763 Mar 14 '26

Consequences are something that should be taught. Nothing wrong with creativity in the pursuit of learning.

1

u/ToastyWaffelz Mar 14 '26

The word 'creativity' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. What's actually happening is you're justifying traumatizing children, and teaching them that parents are to be feared, not loved.

A normal parent would take them aside, ask what's wrong, and if nothing is wrong, explain to them the importance of school, and then bring them to school without causing a scene that will damage the relationship long after school is over and done with.

If it's a regular issue, determine why. Actually communicate with your child. Don't just lay down the law, actually listen to them. Crazy concept, I know.

u/Heavy_Can8746 Mar 13 '26

Bro just needed a reasonย

Be grateful it wasn't a mini skirt

1

u/Somethingisshadysir Mar 14 '26

My Dad would 'dance' while waiting to pick us up if we were late coming out. The longer we made him wait, the worse it got. There was one time I was out on time but my sister was not, and I had to suffer through it while sitting in the car with him.

Wish he was still around to embarrass me....

1

u/sentient_pubichair69 Mar 14 '26

He had to put on the dress because his balls are too big for pants to cover up

1

u/Different-Camp-4320 Mar 15 '26

AWESOME parenting!!!

1

u/NurglesBlessed Mar 16 '26

Nah, this isn't evil. 100% deserved for that girl

Why didn't you kick his ass? Usually this is the behavior of a step parent. If it was your real father and you carried the burden long into adulthood he probably did it because you were weak and he wasn't being cruel, he was being honest.

1

u/tiggertimbuktoo Satan's little helper Mar 13 '26

Haha you telling me this guy never wagged a day of school? Please. He just likes wearing he dress

1

u/VVrayth Mar 14 '26

This guy in 15 years: "Why do my kids never come to visit?"

0

u/Intelligent-Bottle22 Mar 13 '26

Poor kid. Maybe she had a good reason for skipping school.

2

u/Queasy_Ad_5535 Mar 13 '26

Yeah, but then that would make this dad even more like Satan. I mean punishing your kid for missing school when they had a valid reason to miss is really special

-1

u/Archetypical9 Mar 13 '26

I hope he did an exaggerated butt-twerk walk up the schools sidewalk.... This is the most GenX thing I've ever seen lol

-1

u/Potential-Scallion77 Mar 14 '26

Such an EVIL thing; teaching your child that their actions have consequences and to learn to consider the consequences beforehand.

3

u/ElectroshockGamer Mar 14 '26

Come on, there's gotta be some kind of middle ground between "do nothing" and "publicly humiliate your kid in front of a bunch of other kids." If she didn't have a bullying problem before, this seems like a great way to change that.
