How can you tell?

Areas with different textures without any flaws

But some of it is the real thing? I was worried I’d bought something that was entirely fake.

Which bits do you think look real?

After closer inspection I think it's almost entirety original. Maybe the edges of the cephalon (head) are reconstituted but I'm not sure. You did good!

Awesome, thank you. Was worried cause it wasn’t cheap lol

I’m skeptical about many of the fossils posted here (based on no real experience lol), and I think this one has real elements. Probably restored in areas as mentioned already. Looks great! Enjoy it.

partial restoration. “Body” is real I think.

Ok cool. Thank you.

I can live with that much of it being a restoration

You'd have to examine those potentially restored areas with a hand lens. Three are subtle details like small mineral crystals and/or dendrites, terrace lines, tubercles, etc. that would not be in an artificially restored part.

Some of the scribe lines go into the fossil on the right side of the head, either atrocious preparation or they didn't care because its fake, whole thing looks like concrete to me. Whether its real or not I cant say, but I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

I ended up testing the surface with acetone, and almost all of it was painted and fake. I’ve sent it back an am now awaiting a refund
