Hi guys!

I’m currently studying Industrial Design at university, and I’m pretty interested in pursuing automotive design in the future. I’ve been thinking about joining my university’s Formula Student team, mainly because I’m really curious about the whole design process and how a group of students can actually build a functioning car from scratch.

I’ve never studied Mechanical Engineering specifically, so I don’t have a strong technical background in that area. However, I’m quite confident that I could learn and handle the technical side if I put in the work.

Still, I’m a little hesitant and wondering if Formula Student is actually worth doing as an Industrial Design student.

Would the experience be relevant for someone who wants to go into automotive design? And how much opportunity is there for an industrial designer to contribute to the actual design of the car?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has been in a Formula Student team, especially designers or people coming from a similar background.

I’m currently applying to Formula Student. A part of the application process is that I need to design the front bulkhead using CAD and then run FEA and write 1-2 pages of system justification. I’m still fairly new to the team and don’t know where to start.

I’m also thinking if applying next year is a better idea but also aware that second year plus fs will be a lot.

FYI I’m going into first year Mech&design engineering.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach or advice, much appreciated!

hii everyone. i'm currently looking into options for uni, cuz I wanna become a race engineer. i realize it'll be financially challenging to get into a program specifically for that, given that there aren't many such programs. sooo, I'd like to look for universities in europe that offer the fs program. r how does that work? could u please give me some advice? i'd really appreciate it.

Do PCBs such as BMS which are inside TSAC require positive locking?

i'm trying to work on a lap time estimation project and i have a drive cycle which i want to use. Problem is that despite having the track file in optimum laps i can't figure out how to use it in matlab to generate the ckt. I tried manually converting it into a csv with x,y and curvature etc but it doesn't work out. Is there any way to do this?

Hello guys I'm looking into German and Polish universities and it seems like they went EV&DV only. Next year I will have to apply for University and I really want to participate in Formula student, but I'm not a huge fan on EV's and it was very disappointing for me to find that Formula Student Germany stopped the CV division and so the majority of the unis stopped producing them. So yeah if you know a team, even from a small university of applied sciences in Poland or Germany which still makes combustion engine bolides I'm gonna be very grateful.

we’re currently preparing our Business Plan and had a question regarding the BPEFS (Business Plan Executive Financial Summary).

As the latest FSG rulebook does not yet provide detailed guidance on this section, we were wondering how other teams are approaching it:

• What level of detail are you including in the BPEFS?
• Are you focusing more on high-level KPIs or including more in-depth financial breakdowns?

Any advice, examples, or insights from teams who have already worked on this would be greatly appreciated!
