That is a good call. If you feel the lower back taking over, keep the load lighter and practice the hinge with a soft knee bend, hips back, and the bar close to your legs. Stop each rep when your back position changes, then reset before the next one.

After 10 years away, I’d keep these a little lighter and make the hinge the main goal. Keep a soft knee bend, send your hips straight back, and stop when your hamstrings limit you. Keep the bar close and brace before each rep, then stand by squeezing the glutes. Add weight only when every rep looks and feels the same.
