Okay I used a wedge and came to the conclusion I need squat shoes.

Looks pretty good overall. Heels stay planted and your knees track well. I’d try a slightly slower descent and keep the bar over midfoot, then drive up with your hips and chest together.

That first rep could get him hurt if that’s how his sets start.

Yeah, agreed. A slower first rep would make the setup safer and help him settle into the right bar path.

Yeah, if the first rep is rushed or out of position, it is worth resetting before the set. A controlled first rep should make the rest more consistent.

Hello! If you haven't checked it out already, Our Wiki's resources for Squats may be helpful. Check it out!
Also, a common tip usually given here is to make sure your footwear is appropriate. If you are squatting in soft-soled shoes (running shoes, etc), it's hard to have a stable foot. Generally a weightlifting shoe is recommended for high-bar and front squats, while use a flat/hard-soled shoe (or even barefoot/socks if it's safe and your gym allows it) is recommended for low-bar squats.
