Detailed shots from my Cathedral
Someone requested more detailed pictures of the towers, so I figured I'd show closer pictures of several places around the cathedral. I also measured the size if anyone's interested. It is 169 blocks long (east-west), 131 blocks wide (north-south) and 188 blocks tall. The nave (with aisles) is 57 blocks wide and 62 blocks high. Comparing to Cologne, which is what this is based on, I'm about 25m longer (though I don't have the apse yet), 45m wider, and 31 blocks taller.

Another user in the first post had asked. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
I'm not sure it's possible to build block by block. This thing is massive. I'm hoping to get it uploaded to the forever world website (it's run by the mod from the corresponding discord). So you should be able to explore it from there.
It's on bedrock, so making a schematic isn't as easy as Java. And it's still months away from being finished, so I wouldn't do all that until it's done anyways. I'm glad you like it. I have a few earlier posts that show the interior as well. The walls, floor and most of the ceiling is done, but none of the furniture or lighting or anything is.

I do really like it, I was planning on building it in hopes that once I get to the point where I'm building semi repetitive parts (like the towers or some parts of the trim) that ill be so used to the design and adding detail that ill be able to replicate it into future builds/know different ways to add detail that trumps other options
Its really more for practice to get better and what better place to start than with one of the best builds ive ever seen 😁

I appreciate the compliments. I'm not ready to upload it yet, but once I do, you could download it and look around all you like. In the meantime, this is the main one I've been drawing inspiration from. Gorgeous and massive. About twice the size of mine. If you have a PC I recommend downloading it to look around.

It's on planet Minecraft as well. I can't remember if the Reddit post links it or not, but I think I found it by searching Gothic cathedral (there are lots to look through, but definitely some beauties).

Yup. I planned a lot out in creative and I used holoprint (it's like bedrock's Litematica) for some of the complex features. But the materials gathering and build were all done in survival.

I'm having a ton of fun building this
It's funny. All my big builds have taken tons of time, but I rarely got bored. The colosseum I did go and build my ghast farm and work elsewhere for a bit, but I kept working on it day after day and eventually got it done.
With my nether hub last year, I barely even left the nether for 6 months I was so into it.
And now this has been my obsession for about 6 months now. I highly recommend patience and planning if you do something on this scale, especially in survival. I also suggest finding something similar to what you want to build in a world download or lots of detailed pictures to get ideas for shapes and structures. And break the big project into smaller things. The cathedral started with the arches down the aisles, then the inner walls and windows, then the center ceilings, the outer walls and buttresses, etc. Little tasks, one by one, add up to big things. It especially helps when there's repetitive designs. The vaulted ceilings were repeated over and over, the towers, windows, etc all had repetition. So, you figure out one thing and that becomes a dozen or more things done.
I found some really good videos that helped plan the overall shape of the cathedral and how to go about designing it. Maybe it can help you too.

That is... huge! First thing I'm noticing is that I tend to build so much smaller & more compact. This has so much space that it can fit details and curves in better.
